You should just pick up a copy of NWN and save yourself the monthly fee. The game consists of questing, questing and more questing. There's no PvP, no Crafting, just questing, which is not enough for them to stamp an MMO label on it and charge people a monthly fee, at least in my opinion. I played beta for a weekend and I thought the graphics were pretty and doing some quests with others was cool but that was the extent of it. It's a let down because I enjoyed playing Asheron's Call and I thought Turbine would have done a lot more with this game, I was actually planning on leaving WoW before having played beta just because it was a D&D MMO. That's not to say that they won't add PvP or Player crafting in the near future but as it stands now the game is not worth $15 p/mo or whatever they're going to charge people. I do think this will start becoming a trend if it already hasn't -- games which have some form of multiplayer mode in them, that you'd normally pay $50 once for, are going to have a monthly fee attached with it. Why stop at $50 when you can call it an MMO and get more out of the customer, on a monthly basis?

For someone that doesn't have 24/7 to invest in an MMO, WoW is perfect for me. It's nice to be a "casual" gamer and still be able to play an MMO with friends.

Wow...... Mission accomplished for Might and Magic petition [uPDATE] Turn-based strategy game quietly delayed as fan uproar over open beta test coalesces into online petition. Angry gamers have been banding together to form online petitions for years, typically because they want to see a favorite franchise continued, or a new game localized and released in their own territory. That line of thinking is being flipped on its head this week, as a group of dedicated Heroes of Might and Magic gamers are petitioning to keep the latest game in the series from being released--for now, at least. Publisher Ubisoft began its open beta period for Heroes of Might and Magic V earlier this week, and it didn't take long for a group of disappointed testers to coordinate efforts and launch a Web site to get the game delayed from its planned March release date. "All of the undersigned wish to see Heroes of Might and Magic [V] as the title that reinvents the series, the title that brings glory back to the Heroes of Might and Magic name," the petition reads. "All wish to see more releases in this new world that Ubisoft has created for Might and Magic. However, we also feel that, should you release the game on its currently scheduled release date, all of our dreams will be shattered. Pushing back the release date even one month will provide many benefits, most of which will in turn equate to increased long-term profits for Ubisoft, and increased longevity for the Heroes series." Little did the petitioners know that the project had already been delayed. An Ubisoft representative told GameSpot today that the company had pushed Heroes of Might and Magic V out of the March release window before the beta test even went live. However, the only public indication of this was the game's quiet absence from the company's list of releases planned for the current quarter, which ends March 31. A revised release date for the game is expected next week. [uPDATE] The Ubisoft representative has since contacted GameSpot, emphasizing that the game's delay was not known about before the launch of the beta testing period. I think some people just need to relax. They're playing a "beta" copy of the game, there's going to be bugs, graphical issues, sound issues, etc. -- it's beta, it's to be expected. Some seem to believe that this beta release is going to be the final product and that UBI is not giving Nival the proper time to complete the project. They're assuming all of this and are creating petitions to "save the game". The people at Nival are probably looking at this and going, "WTF?!" or getting a good laugh out of it, maybe both. I find it all rather funny. People think Heroes V will be a repeat of Heroes IV, I think they need to wait until they have the FINAL product in their hands before voicing their displeasure. As for the beta, I've got to play a few sessions, both in duels and training, and I'm enjoying it. My only gripes at the moment are the size of the battlefields -- I think they're too small and Casting spells -- the length of time it takes for you to cast a spell and then watch the animation is too long and it slows down the pace of the game. I think they need to add an option to turn off spell animation or have a slider to adjust the animation speed. There is a slider to adjust the battle speed but that does nothing for spells. Overall I would say I'm impressed with what Nival has done and can't wait to play the final product.

For me, this is how I would rank them.... 1. Baldur's Gate 2 + ToB 2. Icewind Dale + HoW & TotL 3. Icewind Dale 2 4. Planescape Torment 5. Baldur's Gate + TotSC

If you have a Fileplanet account then there is no waiting in line. I was able to sign up and get the beta downloaded in about 20 minutes. If you don't want to subscribe to Fileplanet then I would suggest waiting until Thursday when the beta will be open to everyone.
-
Well, open beta is here.....sorta. It was not once mentioned that you would need to have a GameSpy fileplanet account in order to get in but apparently open beta is exclusively to GameSpy customers for the first 3 days(Jan 23rd-26th), then it's open to everyone else. So, if you have a GameSpy account go to the link below to get in on beta now.... LINK

I agree. I pickpocketed at every opportunity. Of course, I always saved before doing it. I thought IWD2 was a good game. I didn't enjoy it as much as IWD but I was and still am a fan of the Infinity engine...I just think that engine worked well with a D&D game. I also thought the implementation of the 3rd edition rules worked great. Pathfinding could have been a little better but then again that seemed to be a constant problem in BG, BG2, and IWD. My collector's edition is sitting on my shelf -- I'm still dissapointed I didn't get the "Ice dice" that were suppose to be included with it but oh well. I still would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys D&D games and doesn't mind not having 3D graphics.

For those interested, there's going to be an open beta coming shortly. Originally it was set for today but they announced this morning that they're still trying to get the client stable and there will be a short delay, not talking weeks but just a few days. Looking forward to playing this! I'm interested to if Nival/Ubi will be able to revitalize this once great series. Here's a link to the official web site..... Heroes of Might & Magic V

Won't happen. And if it does, it will be after those games are released on the PS3. The story is inaccurate.... LINK

Even then doesn't the DEX bonus only effect the "to hit" and not damage? So, if you want to do more damage with your saber you're still going to need a higher strength, weapon finesse: light saber or not. Right?

Thanks for the replies all, even though 1/2 had nothing to do with my particular build. Was curious to know what you all would recommend for starting feats? What would be the musts to have at early levels for a Sentinel? Also, I just picked up the PC version of this game...I own the Xbox version as well....to see how the game looks and plays compared to the PC and holy **** what a freakin difference. Playing it on the PC @ 1280x1024 blows the Xbox away and I like the controls much better with the mouse than the controller.
-
That build isn't possible. I could do.. 15 - STR 12 - DEX 14 - CON 14 - INT 12 - WIS 10 - CHA
-
Ok, based on the information you all have provided here's what I got.... 16 - STR(-1)* 10 - DEX(+2)* 14 - CON 14 - INT(+1)* 12 - WIS(+2)* 10 - CHA Now if losing 1 point of Strength isn't that big a deal I could make it 15 and then use the remaining 2 points to put into either INT, WIS or DEX. What do you guys think?
-
So take STR to 16 and lower CHA or WIS to 10?
-
Ok, I'm just starting this game for the first time and have chosen to play the Sentinel. Figured I would mix things up a little after playing a Guardian in KOTOR 1. I've been playing around with the starting stats and came up with this... 15 - STR 10 - DEX 14 - CON 14 - INT 12 - WIS 12 - CHA My only concern is, would I have enough skill points with a 14 INT to raise up my skills each level? Probably the only skill I will be putting little to none points in is Stealth but that still leaves me with 7 skills including 2 cross class skills(Demolitions & Repair). Are there any skills that I should not bother putting points into? Of the list of skills avaiable I would say Computer Use, Demolitions, Persuade, and Security are the most important. Feats and Powers - Haven't gotten to this yet. I was going to make my first feat Weapon Focus: Melee Weapons and my first Power either Stun or Stun Droid but I'm open to any suggestions you all have.
