I just watched the ending on youtube and I have to agree. Of course now I'm just gonna have to play through the whole thing again.

Actually. all the endings were used. JC merges with Helios, Area 51 is destroyed and control is handed over to the Illumnati. As for unfinished stuff in IW, I thought that it semed stuff must have been cut out in the lead up to the Illuminati ending. the space station thing (Ophelia) was just kind of dumped on us.

I'm not sure I'd say "screwed", merely uncertain. None of the DX endings were peachy keen, they were all short and didn't follow up on any of your allies. So the DX:IW endings are the same kind of endings as the original. I imagine prerendered endings are more costly than in-engine ones, but who knows. They originally created fmv endings (and intro) for DX, but held off on using them until the PS2 version. I can't remember the reasons for that.

There is a reason it's referred to as the spiritual successor to SS2. It's the style of game that's similar, the game and presentation, and the atmosphere.

It just feels like cheating to me. I usually see difficult aiming as a part of the game, otherwise i wouldn't even bother playing games like Halo or Gears of War on the Xbox. Auto Aim can be turned off. So can the quest arrow, though I didn't actually notice that.

It depends. If I agree with what they are saying, then yes. If I disagree with what they are saying, then no.

Somehow I doubt the devs would want to go from working on an SS2 style game to another SS2 style game. Anyway, I've only played for a teensy tiny bit, but man the screenshots do not do this game any justice.

The best game system is the one with whatever game I want to play at the time.

There is no graphical inconsistency, this game just doesn't look that crash hot. However, if you've ever dreamt of demolishing watermelons with your ass, and I know you have, then this is the game for you.

I finished the demo mere seconds ago. It was fun, but I can't see myself playing through the full game. As for crotch shooting, I preferred aiming for the face.

Is it really a surprise that HL2 features story and location differences from the original? Splinter Cell Conviction looks to be quite the departure from the previous games, but still in no way, shape or form is it an "original IP". You seem to have used "original IP" in place of "I like this game", much in the same way people will call a game "total crap" when what they really mean is"I don't like this game for some reason". With characters like Alyx and her dad, that Kleiner dude and his pet crab alien, and Mr Smoking Man Wannabe, HL2 seemed like some cheesy made for tv midday movie scifi gunk. Only with better effects. HL1, on the other hand, was a Doom ripoff. Monsters (aliens/demons) invade location (lab/space base) and silent (and personalityless) hero saves the day.

That makes no sense at all. Unless of course you ignore the actual definition of words. And reality. May as well say Obsidian has only ever worked on original IPs because KOTOR2 was nothing like the original and also didn't take place in the Star Wars Universe. And HL2 was a lot like HL, except it had tacked on vehicle sections, an out of place survival horror ripoff level (to be honest, I really liked Ravenholme) and NPCs to busy maintaining eye contact that they walk around backwards.

Unnecessary Hype: "I'm not particularly interested in this game so anybody who is must be wrong." Original story? Hah, welcome to computer games.

Don't play it in the bath. I have it in an area with plenty of space around it, and that's it. I also leave it on for many, many hours. Crazy. I don't worry about it any more that I've ever worried about any computer or electrical item I've ever bought.
