  1. Bingo. Anyway... I realize that the game is just this way, and my rantings won't change it.. So if a kind soul of you would help me build a character (preferably unique enough) to enjoy this game, you'll have my eternal gratitude All anybody can do is point you to the stickied list of builds or you just look around in this section. There is no single absolute best way to build a character. Due to the way the game is designed, there are many ways that are quite successful. The only person that can build a character that you enjoy is you, though people can help if you set some things that you want in the character. As for trying to do something that covers all possibilities at once, there is literally no way to do that without using console commands. Sounds like the system in PoE2 is going to be more flexible, but it's certainly going to be a different system in there.
  2. In/on the hangman's tree that you see in the middle of the town.
  3. From other RPGs that I've played which have sequels or are sequential, there is no explaination for why you're level one (other than maybe 'years have passed and you got rusty in your skills', but that's a bit of a copout). So, really, it'd be harder and far less critical for Obsidian to explain why you and your old companions are level one. Explaining why the companions just happen to be at Caed Nua or wherever they meet up with you, is far more important story wise than trying to explain why they're level one.
  4. I believe you have to rest in Gilded Vale and then talk to the dead animancers soul before Caed Nua is unlocked, did you do any of that? edit: I made a quick junk character and tried to go to Caed Nua while skipping the whole rest in Gilded Vale and talk to the dead animancer part and got the same result as you did. So, you have to do the whole rest in gilded vale and talk to the animancer part.
  5. edit: Whoops, mistook this as being in the PoE2 section. edit2: And a year old, necro'd it by accident by not paying attention.
  6. *points slack83er to the rogueish monk concept build*. That one btw, is supposed to have a piratey background (and is also Aumaua), but fights in a close quarters combat style. So, the question should be 'how do you want your pirate to fight?'. I think you should just set it up the way you feel is right for the character you're doing.
  7. Unless Eder went to Aedyre to live with his parents, but I suppose that could be explained away by saying that he got annoyed with living with his parents and moved back. And yes, there will be some mental dissonance because, as Baltic said, there will be the new relationship thing.
  8. The wiki page for it says 'far north', not polar. And it seems to be more of an allegory of all sorts of real world islands (including Australia, which is technically a continent) with unique wildlife and is also apparently extremely mountainous. I don't think theres really any single real world allegory/analogue to it. edit: Whoop, trimming quote pyramid.
  9. Or even have the scout be someone who can dart away quickly in case combat starts while scouting. Also useful when trying to kite some enemies out of a group. The rules in PoE regarding scouting, etc. are a whole lot looser than a tabletop RPG, so, you just have to realize that you have way more options than you would for a tabletop RPG. If you want to have a wizard be your trap defuser guy or your scout, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from doing so. As for dialogue options, yes, right now, the only exceptions to your character being the one who talks are some quest related interactions and various interjections/commentary. However, from what I've heard for PoE2, that might change some since there will be more interactions between companions. I imagine it might be handled something like the way it was in Tyranny.
  10. Since the skills are completely independent of character class and everything else, the scout and trap handler can be anybody. I mentioned earlier that I was using Aloth as the trap defuser and lockpicker.
  11. Wait wut? They have to give some sort of explanation as to why they were visiting Caed Nua. It doesn't have to be anything super complex, but you can't just say "Eder, Pallegina, and Aloth just coincidentally were visiting that day when...." Explaining why they're level one is different from explaining why they're at Caed Nua. Would be nice if we had a link to the question and Josh answering said question as the context of the question matters,
  12. I guess that's for the better as they'd have to explain all the permutations. Game sequels, chains, etc, don't explain why the main character is at level 1 either.
  13. I made this attempt a couple of months ago according to the various sources: https://forums.obsidian.net/uploads/monthly_02_2017/post-52304-0-45324700-1486033731.png Only problem with the Living Lands being at the pole is that it's described as having both deserts and jungles (next to each other even, which isn't implausible because rainshadow deserts). The way it's described, the Living Lands sound like Papua-New Guniea dialed up to 11 with fjords and etc.
  14. That isn't any issue. This game takes place years after the events of Eternity 1, regardless of how Eder (or anyone else) ends up, it won't be hard for Obsidian to come up with a reason for the three returning companions to all be visiting Caed Nua at the same time. It isn't like you aren't all old friends, and Caed Nua is located at a cross roads. Won't Edér and Pallegina get soul-sucked down to first level as well? That must mean they're at Caed Nua when the event happens. Heck, I'll bet that Edér sets things in motion, being a worshipper of Eothas. And Aloth. You know, you're totally right on that point, those three will have to somehow be explained as being back at level 1 AS WELL as the Watcher. The other companions are totally new and would be fine being at whatever your level is when you meet them, but the three old ones will still have to be explained somehow.
  15. Only the main characters stats are counted for the conversation dialogue stuff, so, it's kind of moot. If by frontman, you mean tank, then sure, melee ciphers are totally doable.
  16. And a lot of things seem to be east of everything else. Also, Naausitak is supposed to be in the middle of the archipelago, which only makes sense if it goes in a giant arc. Also, the deadfire is supposed to be spread out over a large area with some large islands and lots of tiny ones. And theres some region that is impassible by monsters but sounds more like 'HERE BE DRAGONS' on maps of old. And Old Vailia is supposedly south of the Vailian republics, which sounds like it should be inside the deadfire archipelago. The devs really need to try and make a globe map of the Eora planet, should help things make more sense geographically.
  17. It's still possible that Eder could join you, just later. I'm sure there are fast mail carrying ships that carry messages across the sea or some other method of sending messages cross-continent or cross-ocean. So, he could still plausibly join by way of the Watcher sending off a missive, which would take maybe 3-5 months (I think Maneha said or one of her endings said it took three months to get from Dyrwood to Rauatai, though that could have been with favorable winds), and then you get a response just ahead of his arrival somewhere (Neketaka probably) that he is on his way and you meet him up to a month later. Also, this thread should be renamed to something else as it's kind of become "PoE2 general discussion/speculation" now that we've dropped the whole ydwin thing.
  18. Your main character is the only one that actually uses the dialogue options, regardless of who approaches and starts the conversation. So, that one is moot as the only times the companions talk freely (other than when you're talking to them, obviously) are in interjections and some quest related interactions. As for traps, since anybody can use the mechanics skill, well, anybody can do it. I have Aloth as my traps/lockpicker guy atm.
  19. Only problem with grabbing Eder is that in one of his endings, he returns to the Aedyre empire (which is back accross the ocean). Though most people who want him as a companion will most likely do one of the other two endings, Obsidian does have to account for the 'doesn't finish quest' ending.
  20. 'Bond', at least, works in it's own way, even if it sounds a bit silly compared to the others.
  21. True, they're going to have to give some reason why the Watcher isn't decked out in equipment from the previous game, and is possibly poor.
  22. With the tax income, occasional adventures, and minimal money sink, I'm sure the lord of Caed Nua would be pretty flush with cash. Since it's a Dyrwoodian sloop and not a Vailian (or other group) ship, it seems logical to have bought the ship in the Dyrwood before departing to the Deadfire, either New Heomar (another port city often mentioned ingame) or Defiance Bay.
  23. Can't get to the Deadfire without a ship, no airplanes or other forms of flight (wouldn't be surprised if there were people experimenting with flight though). It's just unknown when in the prologue we get the ship. Assumedly, the end of the prologue would be the ship either arriving in the Deadfire or departing from Defiance Bay.
  24. The Fig update said that it's a Dyrwoodian sloop (or schooner or something) that Steward purchased, so, obviously we start with A ship, but no details about the prologue other than what's in the vids have been released yet.
  25. The gods seem to have their own metaphysical realms (or maybe just reside on the same metaphysical plane with their own regions) and the frost-hewn breach seems to hint at other realms since it goes to Rymrgands realm. But, that's as far as PoE1 takes it and it comes really late into the game.
