YES! I've been wanting this feature. I rarely used item switching for anything other than melee vs range because this wasn't available. Agreed. But because I too use my weapon set slots for switching between ranged and melee, this would be useful only if we got three slots standard for all characters. Well, not everybody is going to have their character switch between ranged and melee and not all characters are going to be built that way. There is an utility talent which adds another slot, or you could play island aumaua. No idea if they'll try to balance things to take that into account. Although, we have extra trinket slots don't we? I could see a bandolier item or something that allows an extra weapon set slot.

Podcasts.... they suck for the hard of hearing, wish those had captions or a transcript at least..... Thanks for the rough summary though Quillon. Have to upgrade ship for deep seas. - RTS like If we need to upgrade the ship for deep seas, then how did we get to Deadfire archipelago? isn't there an entire ocean to cross? Importing save game; even small conversation options(Calisha convo) in PoE1 can have reactivity in Deadfire. *raises eyebrows* Interesting. We knew there would be some consequences from PoE1 transferring to Deadfire, but that's some deep connections. Also, who's Calisha? I don't recall an NPC by that name.... Edit: Oh CALISCA, meaning that the background building conversation will have a consequence, not surprised there.

(double post because I wanna). BTW, the 'pirate ship' in San Diego (as a San Diegan, I take a little bit of offense at that, it was never a pirate ship for one) mentioned in the write up is most likely the venerable Star of India, while it was built over a hundred years after the age of piracy and at the tail end of the Age of Sail, it IS the oldest ship still in regular use. So, apart from replicas and restored ships, if Obsidian wants to experience sailing on the real thing that would be used, it's perfect.

Not from that particular website, no. No idea, there was that multicolored block thingy that they had during the livestream that they used for inbetween sections. But still, why use a screenshot from a completely different expansion? Also, in the write up, the devs and artists apparently went and put a heck of a lot of work into researching ships, nautical terms, etc.

Showing off the barbarians sundering blow effects: https://www.instagram.com/p/BVaRlQDl4m7/?taken-by=jesawyer1975&hl=en Also, that cape looks unnaturally stiff, looks like it's trying to go straight ' vertical down' when the character is in a combat crouch, but physics wise, only the part coming off the back would actually be 'straight and vertical'. Just to be clear, when the character does the action, it looks fine, it's just when the cape moves to neutral position that it seems to defy gravity. edit: Palleginas cape looks fine, though I can't tell for sure whether she is leaning forward a bit. Could just be that particular cape model.

Watch again. Plenty of characters got damaged. You get to *watch* health *regenerate*. Which, new fact: regenerating health, bros. I think he might have meant wounds as in no wound icons or damage to the long term health bar which you need to rest in order to regenerate, at least none that are obvious. I do see that one character comes VERY close to knockout, and theres some icons that come up after the battle or during, but again, it's not clear to us that they are wound icons. edit: Actually, no, the icons I saw were there earlier. I know they were changing something about the health/endurance system from PoE1, but not sure what they were doing.

@Morty: In the fig update, it sort of sounded like they wanted to add more non-violent ways of solving quests or just more options in general. Limiting it to quest related stuff might be a good way to balance it, but then again, lock picking isn't limited to quest related stuff. Hopefully the pickpocketing is limited to sensible stuff and not things that border on the absurd like removing a piece of armor without the victim noticing (unless maybe REALLY drunk). Stealth is a tough thing to balance in any game.

WIP maybe? I don't see the health bars though. I think they said they were doing something different with the health bars? Damn, that dagger is useless to me. I would never bind a dagger to a paladin or a priest. Maybe if a character is some weird multiclass with paladin or priest... Yeah, that, seems rather dumb, and possibly overspecialized to a multiclass combo.

Pretty sure that feature doesn't exist in PoE1. It certainly does make the whole stealth thing more interesting and would make high stealth characters more useful. Theres also been mention of using stealth to eavesdrop on NPCs and there was also a mention of pickpocketing an NPC while they are on their 'smoke break'. Since lockpicking already exists, I'm gonna take a stab at an explaination that they could treat it like containers. The lockpickable container mechanic already exists, it's just a matter of figuring out how to apply it to NPCs. Also, I don't entirely get the complaints about the old companions new portraits. Palleginas face on portrait is just different, Eder just looks a bit older and with more beard, Aloth just shows his personality changes since and now he grew as a character. Sounds like you guys just want the old portraits back. For sure I feel like most other games with pickpocketing require a huge investment to even get to point where it is feasible to accomplish. Would be nice to know how much stealth skill the character used there has. Given that the character is a barbarian, it probably isn't all that high.

That's an old screenshot that was recycled from a previous interview article (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-01-26-pillars-of-eternity-2-deadfire-announced). If memory serves, it's a statue of Ngati (Ondra as she is known by the Huana). And those are boobs, not bowls. Per https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3807509&pagenumber=82&perpage=40 (search for "Rope Kid" - Sawyer's SA handle), the Huana associate Ondra/Ngati more heavily with fertility, and the statue is even identified as "their angler fish-headed take on the Venus of Willendorf". Not sure why they recycled an old screenshot (maybe the same reason everybody recycles old screenshots), but okay, didn't know that about the statue. Seems my final analysis was just about correct.

Is that idol/statue of a polpovir with boobs? The description of the head, which matches that of a deep sea anglerfish, fits, but um... not sure if those round things are supposed to be boobs or bowls filled with something. Could also be extremely simplified lobstercrab claws, but that's not in the polpovir description. Edit: Actually, the description doesn't say anything about the hands/claws, if it has any. In it's current state though, it looks more like someone stuck an anglerfish head on top of a Venus figurine than a polpovir. @Devs, wanna comment? lol And the reviewers thought Maias companion was a pet parrot of some sort, I guess they didn't explain that to the reviewers. The devs would probably want to check on that for accidential misinformation. Though it's funny that they thought it was a parrot rather than some sort of exotic bird of prey, which generally aren't brightly colored.

What do you mean the running seemed a wierd and wierder on some characters? It did seem rather syncronized at times. Animations. When they enter a settlement and run to chieftains house look at the characters, some looked weird, Aloth's running were even weirder. Oh yeah, I see what you mean with Aloth, his running gait speed doesn't match the others, or rather, the stride is much shorter.
-
Now that you mention it, yeah, the ship seems rather small, also, 5 cannons is a lot to cram into a small space like that. Though I guess someone who knows more about ships, especially historical ones as they're closer analogues, might be able to determine better if it looks rather small and narrow.

Moving my observations into a new post: things I notice: Maias bird of prey companion flies when you move around, seemingly dependent on move distance? Also stops when you stop, though it's flying when you go out the door. Ship interior. On a humorous note, there was some sort of "Character(something) name me!" heals by one, from some previous scene. Player portraits now have watercolor versions when in conversation. I guess it makes sense to have the art style match. Preview of the sneak mechanism, with snatching the key right outta the chieftians pocket, lol. Real ambushes, from sandworms at least. The golem we've seen in the Fig update before. Its death seemed rather unspectactular, compared to the description in the fig update. Maybe the effects haven't been applied yet? Main character with some aweome looking gear. Looked like the weapon clipped right through the body when the weapon switched hands, maybe? Can use spells/other things to actively interact with the environment now. Aloth used cone of fire, or one of the other fire spells on some barrels. Not sure if the barrels were explosive or not. Some bat things in the dungeon with strange hammerhead shaped heads. Is that what Josh teased earlier? Portal to.... someplace that isn't the normal realm. Spritworld/ether?
