  1. The name of one of the Chanter subclasses is certainly new. Wonder what the third one is? Maybe it'll have a focus on crowd control and buffs/debuffs.
  2. The Beyond is where the Gods live and 'unhoused' souls reside Was that explictly said by the devs? Also, if it's the realm where the Gods live, then I'd expect there to be different areas which reflect the particular dietys portfolio of things that they represent or are aspects of. What we see in the video looks almost positively non-eucilidean, but chaos isn't really one of Waels attributes. Could be a sort of lobby or hub between the different gods domains. And I guess 'unhoused' souls are just those who are in 'the wheel', but haven't moved onwards yet? Or souls that have reached nirvana?
  3. It's hard to talk about it with so little information I suppose. I thought it was maybe the spirit world or the aether or wherever the souls reside after going through the adra and being in the wheel. 'The Wheel' might not be an actual place/dimension though.
  4. Eora needs a map anyway because it's really hard to place important things, and often times, there are things east of things. Making a map is pretty essential to worldbuilding for something like Eora, helps keep the lore consistent for one. There's a few fan made maps, yeah, but having an official map saying Aedyr is HERE, Rauatai is THERE, and THIS is the Deadfire archipelago.
  5. I don't know if the founders were human, their early history is unknown at this point, but as seen in the mural in the ruins that you're at during the introductory quest and the mural at 6:53 in the E3 vid, they had people from all races.
  6. You mean the Naga? I looked at the fig update with the concept art of them, and they don't seem inspired by any particular culture. There is that Engwithan saint concept art, but there isn't anything that seems egyptian inspired. Edit: If you mean the architecture of the temple/dungeon, it seems a bit more Mesopotamian inspired, but it still matches the architecture and style seen in PoE1 as there has to be continuity.
  7. In the E3 vid, what was the stealth skill of the character that was showing off the sneak and pickpocket features? If you guys remember what it was anyway.
  8. Some historical tidbits on his tumblr blog. Pretty sure the catastrophe being mentioned is the one mentioned in White March. Though the biggest piece of the moon fell on land (and surprisingly intact, but we can blame magic sheneinighans), I wonder if the other pieces were large enough to generate a tidal wave big enough to damage a civilization to the point where it's unable to recover. Perhaps we'll find out more while playing Deadfire. Also, it doesn't have to be completely destroyed, just damaged enough that it collapses and enters a dark age.
  9. Yeah, that seems a bit silly, would be cool if the other companions hung out on the ship doing random (sometimes productive) things or chatting with others when it's just the ship and no combat going on.
  10. The Closed Caption subtitles (English only) have been updated to accurately represent what is being said in the video, so that should be able to help you greatly. What about the Twitch Q&A on July 12th?
  11. No captions! BOOOOO! But thanks though. Doesn't mean that Takana (sp? What's the godlike companions name spelling again?) won't have a custom spiritshift, after all, Hiravias had his own special spiritshift.
  12. 1:17 I see. Speaking of other crew members, when the group walks up to the aft part of the deck with the wheel, when the green shirted crewmember walks in the direction of the group, he walks normally initially and then goes into a crouch, which seems wierd. The crew member that was talking (kind of looked elven) may have been in another part of the ship, not just in the crow's nest (which is what you're thinking of). In the vid, we see several crew members, one reading something in what looks like the ships library or maybe crew quarters, you have to look fast to catch that one, a shirtless and white bandanna'd crewmember near the bow, someone in Vailian style clothing on the deck, near the door is what might be a female crew member looking at a map, the green shirted sailor up top, and a guy with a mohawk manning the helm. Can't disagree more. Loving the minimal intrusive new UI. Dialogue UI shouldn't get in the way of enjoying the scenery, now with unpaused world & more detailed characters its more important for the scenes to be visible. Having played Pillars 1 on a 720P monitor for a time, the dialogue UI was especially bad, covering more than half of the screen and I assume some people will also play Deadfire with a similar output. Having said that UI customization was a stretch goal. Make it optional; everyone's happy. I use 1280x720 resolution myself and the the dialogue box covers the lower quarter/third of the screen, so, having a transparent or semi-transparent dialogue box would be welcome. Though yeah, just make it optional.
  13. Not sure if it's been said so by the devs, but it's been implied or at least assumed to be the 'hearing range' or at least the 'close enough to potentially be audible' range'.
  14. Where in the vid is the NPC saying that? I didn't see, or hear, it.
  15. Plus Old Vailia (and thus the Vailian Republics) likely dominated the Deadfire region along with Rauatai well before the Aedyre empire started colonizing the continent that Dyrwood and Readceras are on. Although the pirate faction, the Principi, are descended from those fleeing the collapse of Old Vailia.
  16. Since the game isn't paused while chatting, having an opaque background would block your view of seeing something happening, so, it might be better. @Devs: What was the level of the stealth skill on that character in the vid? Some people were discussing how in some games which implement pickpocketing, you need ridiculously high stealth in order for it to be useful. Mainly it's just a concern of balance between actual balance and useability. Basically, stealth isn't an easy thing to balance.
  17. Will you guys also be providing a transcript of what is said?
  18. Where did you get the idea that they use oars for propulsion?
  19. In the tropical/subtropical Deadfire archipelago?
  20. I thought Kana might have said catamaran, but the previous post which I updated, shows that he said ketch, not catamaran, going to look again if he did say catamaran. Not seeing any mention of catamaran. *shrug*
  21. Ships from another culture, like say, the Chinese 'junks' or injurai's example could certainly look odd or just plain different from someone used to European style ships. Also, if your character is from Old Vailia and you talk with Kana about Rauatai ships, he makes a comment about Rauatai catamarans would run circles around Old Vailian carracks or something. I forget what ship types were mentioned in the dialogue. @osvir: There was a funding goal for being able to obtain other ship types mentioned in a fig update. edit: Found the line of conversation I was talking about: ""The grandest, sure. Houses on the water." Kana laughs. "Give me a sleek Rauatai ketch heavy with cannons and I'll still run circles around your Vailian carracks."" A Ketch is a real ship type, but they're more like big sailboats and while they have been used for war in the past, they're no galleon. Plus Kana was likely exaggerating and boasting somewhat.
  22. I wonder when we'll get to see the other two companions, Serafina and Takehu, in screenshots/vids?......
  23. On a more practical note, would there be any drawbacks to using an aquatic/semi-aquatic spiritshift form on land? Given that at least half of the time you'd be fighting on land, the rest of the time at sea or in shallow water. And yeah, Takehu is likely to have an unique spiritform since he's an unique type of Moon/Sea godlike.
  24. This? They'd have to travel to Germany for that, and wrong time period anyway. A caravel would be more like the small kind of ship that they want. Or maybe a Schooner, both of which are period style ships.
  25. Nothing like seeing the real thing for yourself though. I looked at the Obsidian main page and they're based in Irvine, California, which is 1-2 hours from San Diego. So, they could easily come down to San Diego for the weekend without cutting into work time. It's an opportunity for them and they're taking it. And don't forget, it's in active service, meaning that they can ride on it while it goes for a tour or something.
