I'm pretty happy with the game. It's been my favorite RPG in a long time. Not much has came out recently that I like other than Witcher 3 (which I've only played once and get bored trying to play it again). That said, I still feel like the game is missing something. I'm not sure what. I'd like to see them put forth some effort for a truly involved and epic quest/storyline. Kind of like the Baron in the Witcher 3. Too many quests in this game while good, are too short.

What, like Serafen? Serafen was pretty tame. How so? He does seem like he fits every aspect you mentioned regarding Oghren. How exactly is he "tamer" than Oghren? Just the feeling I got. I admit I didn't use him the whole game, I intend to use him all the way through my 2nd game since I'm going to be supporting the Pirates that game. But I have to finish my POE 1 game I just started first, so it will be a while. I think one problem is I can't understand half of what he says. I do like the pirate speak, it does give flavor to the game. But I have a lot of trouble understanding him.

After finishing the review there are some valid points. I admit I didn't notice a lot of the SJW present in the game. But when you point it out it clearly is there. But I suppose that's the times we live in. We may never see another Oghren in a game again. Long live Oghren. I'll miss the days when men could be beer drinking, womanizing dirtbags, but still have some endearing qualities. The days when men could be men. As I mentioned above, you put the women into too broad of categories. But I admit the women in this game lack depth. Let's face it, their peak was with New Vegas. Sure you had Cass who was a hard-ass, but you also had Veronica who was a very well written character. And Arcade was a very well written gay man. The characters in New Vegas are a thousand times better than the characters in this game. They really didn't invest enough time in writing decent characters in this game. And I agree with you 100% about the Gods. I'm tired of these overly epic main plots. The best games often didn't have overly epic main plots. Dragon Age Origins which is still my favorite fantasy game, it seems you are saving the world, but really you are only saving your nation of Fereldan. Presumably grey wardens in the other nations could have stopped the blight had Fereldan failed to stop it. I liked all the political intrigue in that game as well. Fallout: New Vegas which is my all time favorite game only concerns one small corner of the world. You aren't saving the world, only what you hold dear (whether it be NCR, Legion ideals, New Vegas, or yourself). As for Witcher 3. I very much enjoyed playing the game once. But there is no replay value for me. The side quests were amazing, I'll give you that. But the fact you can only play one character, and the ways you can develop the character are too similar mean I have yet to finish the game a 2nd time. The game is too long and too much combat. I get tired of fighting all the time. But it sure was pretty, and some quests I still remember to this day. That's saying something. DOS2 I have yet to finish. The main plot I don't even remember, and wasn't interesting enough for me to care about completing. Maybe one of these days I'll finish. But because it wasn't good enough to finish the first time, I rate it pretty low. I can't really compare POE 2 to Witcher 3 because the games are so vastly different. One is a party based game, the other you are by yourself all the time. I simply won't compare them. But I will say POE 2 is a better game than DOS2 even if DOS 2 is from a technical standpoint a better game. POE 2 has better writing, which is what keeps me into games without getting bored. Unlike most people, fighting isn't what keeps me glued to games, but story. All fighting games like shooters I get bored of after 2 hours. edit: I forgot to add that comparing women at your workplace to a tough area like Deadfire is silly. Maybe the women of Deafire are tough because the tough area they live in with Pirates, poverty, harsh conditions in Rautai, etc forces them to adapt and become tough to survive.

"One example is when you have to go back to Fort Deadlight after receiving a letter. FOUR load screens just to talk to an NPC for a moment." there's a guy right when you arrive who can take you right to her. Getting back out is a little more troublesome, but thankfully the pathfinding is good enough you don't need to handhold your characters all the way across the map.

Check out Divinity Original Sin 2, you won't ever have the desire to play PoE again. Ever. I've already made my views on that game clear in another thread, and got called a fan boy for it. I have no problems with the game, the combat is pretty fun. Problem is that seems to be the only highlight of the game. The universe just doesn't interest me at all. I had to struggle to finish DOS 1, and DOS 2 I only got about halfway through and got bored of it. Fact is I have finished Deadfire, but have yet to finish DOS 2 which came out like 9 months ago. It seems unlikely I'll finish DOS 2 at this point, but who knows.

I finished Deadfire, and I want to play another game of Deadfire, but I really would like to play POE 1. First I want to import a character save into Deadfire rather than choose what happens. I couldn't do so before because I didn't have a finished game of POE 1. My only finished game is on another hard drive and didn't have the DLC complete. And I forgot a lot of the events in POE 1, so some of the references I didn't get. And who is that kid who is on your ship? Was that kid in POE 1? She seems familiar. Only problem is some of the game mechanics I like better in POE 2 and it will be a little hard to go back to 1. Not to mention no voiced dialogue and massive information dumps by Durance. I may just skip over Durance's conversations, same with Grieving Mother who I don't care for.

Sorry to hear it, it must have some compatibility issues with some systems. Mine has been pretty good. Only area I had a few crashes was changing party members on my ship. It seemed more stable to change party members in the tavern for me. I had a few other crashes to desktop and maps that wouldn't load (it booted me to the main menu so my save file wouldn't get corrupted). I'm running ATI processor and Geforce GTX 970. The fan does increase in speed when my room is moderately warm (it's starting to get warm in the mojave desert). And it will heat up my room after about 20 minutes of playing. Only in the beginning does my fan speed stay low.

I made a lot of mistakes in character development (I should have never multi classed Aloth, but I was thinking like other RPG's where you needed a rogue, you don't need a rogue this game only mechanics skill). And I did run with Pallegina for a little bit and Eder was out of the party for a little while. I also swapped Serafin and the Godlike character (both of whom I multi classed). The godlike character left me because of my choices at the end, so I can only print Serafin's numbers. Eder 20.6 k/highest single target 78.9 Serafen 6100 (I ran with the godlike most of the game who seemed to do better damage)/ highest 304.8 (no idea what did that!) Xoti: 32.2 k/ highest 162.6 She actually got the killing blow at the final tough boss fight using Symbol of Eothas. The irony. Me (single class sharpshooter ranger) 88.3k / highest 116.6 Aloth 45.9k / highest 155.6

ha, says the DOS 2 fan boy. You know it's possible to like one game over another. Radical concept I know. The simple fact is one game I have finished, the other I have not. -
Story wise I was happy enough with the ending. It kind of felt like it was missing something, but I'm not sure what. Length of game was alright, I clocked in 89 hours at the finish. I take my time exploring. Exploring was the high point of the game. As for factions mentioned above, they were the more interesting part of the game. The main quest was so-so. But I'm really really getting tired of gods and stuff in fantasy games. I actually prefer a game such as Dragon Age: Origins (which still is my favorite fantasy setting game) which had a more subtle hero who wasn't the savior of the world (he only saved Fereldan when you think about it, other nations could have stopped the blight with their grey wardens). I actually prefer political intrigue of the factions more than I do all this gods stuff. I'd love to see a fantasy game with no gods. Maybe that's why Fallout: New Vegas is my favorite game of all time, no gods. Although I worry about the faction theme becoming overdone. As it was done with New Vegas, Fallout 4, and this game as well. All 3 games had 4 major factions (though In NV one faction was yourself) you could side with. Maybe move away from the number 4. Otherwise it will tend to get boring fast. If you do go with factions, make the choices even more significant so things really change once you start supporting a faction. I felt like nothing changed at the end of my faction quest line in this game, and no new dialogue that I saw. I want empire changing events here. I know the end screens take that place, but I can't help but want more.

I am very disappointed in Obsidian right now. I've been underwhelmed with POE 2 so far. I think D:OS 2 was way more fun the first 50 hours. I hope they get us a monstrous patch before the end of May to make up for it. Not me. I feel POE2 is far superior than DOS2. I just finished POE2, and have never finished DOS2. I got about halfway through DOS2 and grew bored with it. Combat is nothing but continuous reloads for me. I'm not sure how much fun reloading is to other people. Normal difficulty is quite difficult for me. I'm sure people will say I suck, but I don't suck at other games like Dragon Age: Origins or similar games. As for bugs, I haven't really encountered any game breaking bugs. I had a couple crashes to desktop (especially when changing party members on the boat, better to do it at an inn). And some quests had weird dialogue if you did things out of order, but I was able to complete every single quest in the game except one. The last survey mission for the map maker guy in Queen's Berth. For some reason I only found one unidentified island I could name, never could find the other and I looked everywhere. -
Load screens are a bit numerous, but not too long on my computer. I'm running a 9 year old computer with the game installed on my non OS hard drive (my slow 7200 rpm hard drive). Occasionally though the game does take a while to load. This game also occasionally uses a lot of CPU resources, and I find it better not to have a browser open in the background.

I just hope this game does well because I'm an investor. And frankly, I find the game more fun than POE1. I'm having a blast. Speaking of Mass Effect I still like the first one the most because it felt like an RPG. It turned into an action game after that (that gave you some choices, just not that many). And I'm one of the few that thought ME3 was fantastic, at least up until the end. I didn't like the choices at the end. Surely they could have came up with something better than that. Who would want to be a machine hybrid? Yuk. I want to retire with my squeeze and live the good life. Instead we get that dreary ending.

I did forget to mention one thing that bothered me. A couple mispronunciations bothered me. As a Navy veteran the mispronunciations of forecastle bothered me. I know you can actually say it like it is, but I believe the character saying it was a sailor, and it should have been pronounced like sailors pronounce it. There was also one other word that was mispronounced, I don't remember what it was exactly, but it was a word that was probably of French origin and should have been pronounced that way.
