Range and ranged weapon fighting
ShinIchiro replied to Eddo36's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I thought the system for ranged vs. close was flawed, but what irked me the most was the animations. At point blank, people would do the same ducking manuever that they do from far awaay. The problem is, at close range they would duck after already being hit. -
Don't you wish your party members can ALL fight...
ShinIchiro replied to Eddo36's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I think that you should not be able to in general, but there should be a couple (every now and then) of extra-hard fights where you use everyone. Also, I think that characters who don't actually gain the experience (they're not in the party when it's gained) should only get 1/2 or 3/4 exp. That would make the mass combat much more fun because you'd have stronger and weaker characters. It'd also give a reason to level up other characters and use other people. Maybe there should be a 3 big fights near the end. One with everyone, one with a party of 3, and the last one with just you. I hated how Revan was the only character you needed strong... -
It would be good for sports games but not kotor <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed... But maybe after you beat the game you should have the music selection option (like the movie selection). Also, what was with alot of the cooler movies (hawk escape from Taris) not being in that section? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> there was a movie selection!? was it on xbox!? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I saw it on my PC version. It's accessible from teh main menu. You can see any movie you've seen in-game.

Good points all, but I'd say the most major combat complaint is the ease with which you can overpower yourself. We're discussing right now how you can get something like 200 damage per turn easily with the right equipment. People seem to be forgetting that doing 70 damage in a turn is very very good. I'd say something's wrong when the "weak" weapons can demolish almost anything. About the feigned roleplaying, it might be my FF background speaking, but I found alot of this game about choices and decisions. Granted, the main storyline was barely affected by decisions (only 1 or 2 decisions mattered and there were only 2 endings). I found the majority of roleplaying and choices reseided within the sidequests. Thus, my complaint would be rephrased to that the game is dependent on sidequests to roleplay.
-
The only major restriction is that there were only 2 big endings. However, the good thing about KOTOR was the minor choices that affected the game in subtle ways. These were mainly the sidequests. I would therefore rephrase the complaint to something like: the major flaw of KOTOR is that it relied on sidequests to give it player choice in the plot. Therefore, the decisions were numerous, but minor in scope.

O god no. Just no... never. I personally (and I think many agree) think that that's a horrible idea... How many times am I going to have to say that? It seems like every 15 posts somebody asks about online stuff...

More asian faces in Star Wars?
ShinIchiro replied to Eddo36's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Please, no politics here... -
There are all new powers and feats. The Consulars may be considerably different. The crew has addressed ranged weapons. And they've worked to make skills more useful. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly. Those are the problems I was saying that I think the crew has under control and has fixed (or is working on fixing). Read my post again. I list the problems that we haven't seen much indication of being fixed (or we just haven't been given much information about) or the ones that are alot harder to nail down than just adding a couple of feats.

Well, it tries to make the character look as if they're dodging and ducking...sometimes. I just hope the defense animations have been improved along with the attack animations in KOTOR. Hey, maybe you should have cooler defense stuff with faster reactions as you level up, kinda like the attack animations.

Actually, the Jawas use an ion gun on R2. I've always thought of the ion as a concentrated beam of EMP affecting only what it hits, so thus sabers and stuff (which also have some ion shielding I think) aren't affected unless they are hit. Also, the hilt would haveto be hit, not the energy, as the hilt is the electronic stuff.

Well, no matter what, it's going to be more fun than the otehr swoop bike racing in KOTOR 1. As long as it gets better and continues to do so, I'm happy. BTW, let's just let this topic fade back into nothingness. There's really nothing new we can say here.

I believe that it is called Jedi Watchman. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think he was talking about in the D20 rules. It is called investigator there.

Should Kotor2 be a little more Violent.
ShinIchiro replied to psychohazards's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm just to busy being glad that they finally made a SW RPG to complain about things like that, which I consider rather miniscule. Another thing, jedi are pretty much the only big distinguishing thing about SW. While it has other merits, would it really be half as good if there were no semi-mystic jedi in Episode 4,5,6 (I'm still in denial about 1 and 2). SW is pretty much about jedi and that's what makes it different from all the less well known and obscure sci-fi lore. So naturally, the games are about jedi. My friend and I are working (well it's more like a were working on and it never got far at all, but we had some nice concepts) on a sorta homebrew SW online RPG that we had semi-foolish aspirations of putting on the net and making people pay for (well, we more just wanted to make a good SW game). I think it's the sort of thing you'd like alot, except for it's about jedi. It's pretty much the training/growth of a student (the player obviously) through the Yavin 4 jedi Academy. Just a random interesting thing I felt like writing. -

So you're complaining about the type of game it is? Alot of gamers who aren't quite so hardcore cRPGers prefer this I think, even if you don't think it is true to the concept of RPGing. -
But the hero has an oppurtunity to fix it. If there weren't a sequel and you went DS, the galaxy would be screwed and many major events would have been affected. The LS was the only ending that wouldn't create a ripple effect throughout the SW history, unless there is a sequel (which they didn't know would come out until recently...or relatively recently).

Tsk Tsk hades. Come on now, thinking about SW, Jedi are rather rare so you don't have to hate SW. Also, your complaints that all SW RPGs have been ruined by jedi doesn't work. Ask yourself how many SW RPG lines there have been. And also, y hate jedi so much. BTW, good to be back on the forums again. -
Well, yah. If you look around the SW universe, you notice the sith didn't take over the world, and they didn't know that there would be a sequel. They couldn't have the galaxy sith controlled and no way for the LS to come back.

God you people. You want Vice City, not star wars. -
Well, what he is proposing does make sense in terms of KOTOR and many other CRPGS. Even if your main character can't multiclass, others could be able to (non-jedi for example), However, I am not a big fan of multiclassing in videogames and crpgs, so I would prefer no.
-
I"m so sick of grand ceremonies and i'd prefer to talk with the characters (and maybe then see the ending of the romance/s) and maybe even see the aftermath. Then again, that's my FF experience speaking out of me.
-
AHHH not another returning person thread.
-
Hmmm...I didn't find that to be much of a problem... Then again I haven't done much hardcore crpgs... I know that as an ff player (or ex-ff player as I only play the old stuff now) I found the game to be very big on roleplaying. Also, even if it didn't impact the game much, the decisions were done well enough to make me care about what happened. I felt bad when I did DS stuff, I felt good doing LS stuff. My gripe would probably be either the commonly stated difficulty factor or the less common view (that I always spout) about them not having enough sidequest stuff. I've stated before (frequently) I'd like harder (well...maybe) and more extensive sidequests that you actually benefit from completing, like getting rare equipment or maybe alot of exp or both. It seemed alot of KOTOR sidequests were there for flavor more than actually affecting anything. I would also like (this goes along with the sidequests) an uber-hard optional boss. My whole sidequest view is probably influenced by Final Fantasy. Those are my only big gripes I can think of now that this crew hasn't addressed. Other things, like the underpowered Consulars, weak ranged, random miscelanious stuff, and how everything comes down to violence no matter what, they seem to have fixed or at least tried to fix.

I think stats should influence, not determine. Also, don't resurect threads long gone.

Stop Posting Here the Game is done

How have they gotten lazy? From what I see they've worked really hard and KOTOR 2 promises to be much better than KOTOR 1. What are your premises for your argument? Where is your support?
