THQ: Buying used games is "cheating".
Hassat Hunter replied to kirottu's topic in Computer and Console
Even when not talking about servers (like ME2) they do need money to cover the production, no? Which new users give them and used users give GameStop instead. Penny Arcade article: http://www.penny-arcade.com/2010/8/25/ -
:D Although the very next update was . Poor little rakshasa.

But you do when game publishers do the same thing? I don't get it... Companies need money to survive you know. And they don't do that if *another* company makes $500,- for every $20,- they make. They rather have that themselves. Why should THEY care if people no longer buy second hand? They make no money of it. And the people who wait out till the price drops because they can no longer sell it would be well compensated by second hand buyers who now buy "straight from the source". Having 5 costumers pay you $20 instead of $50, while getting an additional 10 costumers for $40 that previously got you $0 doesn't seem a bad deal, does it? Same with this. Player A sells game to player B, but still needs to subscribe to play the game. Yes, it's kind of annoying for us, the users, but I can totally understand why producers do it with the cash GameStop makes over their back. -
Still, don't really see that happening these days with $8,95 Horse Armors or $15 for 5 bloody map (of which 2 are recycle too)...

@ Amentep: You try REAL hard to avoid that GameStop makes $500,- per $60,- game copy right (and hell, from that $60,- $60,- doesn't arrive at the producer, while the $500,- for GameStop is pure buck)? -

As Calax said too, there can be more used than sold for a single retailer, by forwarding copies sold at another retailer. Which pretty much IS GameStop's little goldmine, of which producers want a cut, because they (GS) get enriched over their (prod) backs. -
Weren't the pre-DLC days great? See also: Morrowind vs. Oblivion.

The problem with your theory is that you go out from a 5 new - 3 used basis. IRL it's more like 2 new - 10 used. So even if 7 of them wouldn't buy the full price, just getting the other 3 in already means a 150% increase in profit. -
It's inside of the patch. How can you NOT install it?

You're allowed to go the HoW instead of dying horribly on the boss, ending the Ironman run (although it's kind of a feat to survive this long without a whole team whooped). TotL too right? Meeting my avatar .

The problem is that GameStop sees a 500% in increase in yearly revenue, while due to the economic situation of the world most producers see it decrease. And you're supprised they jump on the warwagon? There actually IS a DD service that allows you to re-sell your games, although the name slipped me now. Difference from GameStop is that in this case the devs do get a slice of the cut, and as such, several producers offer their products there (if only I could recall the name... ugh). The problem isn't at all you selling your copy to a friend. Small time. And if you want to remain doing that you better hope, just like me, some way GameStop gets forced to pay a cut to the producers from their profits. Because none of us profit from the measures producers take to put this trafficking of Gamestop to an end. And as feared, it could indeed get much, MUCH worse than it is already. So it would be better if GameStop would cough up, and save us gamers a lot of potential future sorrow. But I doubt that'll happen and thus we can indeed, fear the worst... -
Man, I can hardly remember all this. Damn. Anyways, I vote yes for HoW + TotLM (If you survive that is. My bossfight basically was won on luck. And crashed the first time... . Still luck second time I whooped him and fortunately it took then...). IIRC I found it much easier than the base game, somehow...

You haven't heard of the "Music Industry", right? They want to put tax on HD's, DVD's, MP3 players and the like because "They will be used for illegal music anyway". The games industry isn't nowhere near as diluded as these guys. Another great invention was making CD's that wouldn't work in car radio's, your PC(!) and such. Brilliant! ****ing coaster indeed. I am pretty sure libraries, as well as video-rental-shops have to buy more for their copy. Games rental still doesn't do this though, so there's an additional loss post right there. -

Are they making the numbers (profit) GameStop is making? It's understanding that if a company earns MILLIONS (apparently more than most publishers themselves) on a semi-black market operation the original suppliers want a cut, or try cutting the market down... EDIT: And the sollutions provided now (forced reg with Steam, "new copy DLC" etc.) are much less userfriendly than GameStop paying up. So what would you rather want happening? -
Mindless Entertainment + High Quality = ???
Hassat Hunter replied to Maria Caliban's topic in Computer and Console
Or that's more because it's fun to mess about in SA instead of doing missions, while in IV you're bored out of your skull if you try that? They made driving so much less fun for "realism". Screw your realism, I want my fun. IV lacked. So yeah, can't speak a good word about it, although I liked all of the 3 series (VC most though). Not to mention GTA IV must got the worst optimalised engine EVER for a videogame. Beats Bloodlines or Gothic III hands down. For titles: Shooter: Painkiller (Black edition of the original, not the one mentioned before) Race games: Split/Second: Velocity RPG's: The Kotor games -

What? They lowered the playtime from 20 to 5 hours and people still cannot finish them? What the hell? That's just because Telltale are awesome. Doesn't get to mean any other company who goes doing similar things would be quite as awesome. And even TTG themselves seem to fall down with the MI-DVD release (not to mention the W&G), S&M3xx being plenty bugridden etc. If only GameStop would give a part of the used sale profit as royalty we would have been spared of ME2 like tactics to prevent second-hand sales, which will creep in more games. Because it's just them all the people in the business mean when thrashing second-hand sales, believe you me... but of course they can't call names, still a costumer and all. EDIT: But as far as I know there isn't a shopnetwork making millions of these used sales, those are regularly more individual sellers, or second-hand shops with other things to sell. And even if they are professional, like car-dealers, it's not a keten making millions over other people's work. -
Cutscene stuck on Telos Academy (endgame)
Hassat Hunter replied to ChiEkku's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
http://www.deadlystream.com/forum/ Doesn't work with M4-78 (but pretty sure TSLRP doesn't do either) so you might have to choose then. -

Press 1. Yes, it's TSLRP. Might wanna try the other restoration mod too... -
Kreia suddenly stops talking!
Hassat Hunter replied to KnightShiva's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
This happens when you have -1 Computer and/or Repair skill. It does give infinite INF, but I guess you maxed it already (hence not showing more given)... Check out the TSLRCM, it fixes this and many other issues, plus restores hosts of deleted content... -
Yup, final there (I know because I still have a save just before the final battle, which I never finished 0_0). Can't recall where it's in the IWD-line though. Mid-way right? Or earlier?
-
I voted IWD2 and other. For other I nominate Vampire: Bloodlines, if only because I am replaying it once again and still find new stuff, not even listed in the extensive walktrhough of Vampiry Lestat (probably typo's that). DIE MERCURIUS. And I would just find it interesting to see how others would play...
-
Another lurker enjoying the deaths of Mkrek... eh, the LP...
-
DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! But seriously, so early on it's probably better to make a new char and buy some good stuff from the 200 GP. Also, very nice LP . EDIT: Also, what's that screen with the 'nice try cheater'?

Any word on the patch?
