Do you like WW2 grand strategy naval wargames?
From the beta, it only had team MP, IIRC. Either way, the game is too RTS'y. BTW, I'm supporting you over at Matrix ^__________^

Well, HoI2 is too grand strategy-focused. Coop could be more interesting in more operational or tactical games. The next generation of CM's, for example, will have coop (but not the first one, only 1v1). The engine is designed for pure real-time gameplay, with optional segmental 60-sec pauses as in current titles. Coop with each player having a limited amount of units (and info, etc) would be nice, especially the way they're thinking of integrating communication/VoIP. Eg. time delays depending on location, supply, etc.

Well, there's HoI2. But really, time is a commodity nowadays. The last time I've coop'ed HoI2 with Nick was, what, 2 months ago? PBEM sounds good on paper, but finding the time everyday is a big difficult. And it's not something I just want to blow off in 5-min a day, either, otherwise the point of PBEM would be moot in the first place. As it is, I really need to set aside a large gaming session of a few hours whenever I want to play a wargame. Less than that and it feels a bit unsatisfying. Unfortunately, it's hard to come up with that time. My small spurts of free time are being taking up by casual handheld gaming

I'm slowly bidding my time through my increasing collection of wargames. So very slowly In any case, the CM session is quite in the past. I don't even remember my plan. As cool as PBEM is in concept, I'm more a coop dude than a PvP dawg. And it kind of sucks that we can't really make any sort of AAR out of it as we post about it before of that. I'd be more interested in actually writing some AARs, actually. Still, always game.

Yeah, very inspiring thread. I've been thinking of doing some AAR thread as well for some other wargames too. Needs more screenies.

This isn't the Codex. Take your big words elsewhere.

I also missed the part that was bolded, italicized and underligned.

Well, get used to it, because that's how you'll be playing FO3.

No Sirtech Canada humor, though And yeah, looks like Mistland is poof, which is better news than previously for the project. Can't say I'm too interested, however.

Jagged Alliance 3 News
From some Russian mag, stolen from the Codex: * Game is published by Akella and developed by F3 - a fairly new team, but composed of veterans from other developers (several from Nival). * The game is built on a modified Silent Storm engine with updated graphics, improved physics, FX, and damage model. * There will be no more militia training and sector defense, because players supposedly don't like micro-management. The focus will be shifted towards combat and away from economics. As for strategy, the focus will be on missions, rather than on conquering territory. * The player can command only one squad of up to 6 (maybe mercs. * Inventory handling will be simplified, particularly with respect to ammo. [in SS they used a backpack model with no item stacking.] * The player's avatar will be generated without the personality quiz. * Combat mechanics, RPG system, merc hiring, weapon repair, healing, etc. are all transplanted from JA2 with little or no change... * ...except for the turn system: instead of having alternating turns for different teams, the order will be determined by character initiative. This system is said to be more conductive for multiplayer [although, AFAIK, multiplayer is not planned for this game]. * There will be night and day, plus weather effects, which can be seen on the strategic map. * The team can move around the global world on foot or on wheels. However, on the tactical map vehicles are stationary. They can be used to store stuff, and some can shoot as well. * Key locations are designed, but "random encounters" will be randomized. [i am not sure just how much freedom of movement the player will have on the global map.] * There will be 40 mercs (12 of them new), plus 40 NPCs. * Plot: the president-for-life in a banana republic is fighting local insurgency, while a neighboring country opened a second front in a bid to annex some territory. Meanwhile, an international corporation is conducting some sinister experiments in the country. * You can play for one of 4 factions, each with its unique bonuses. In addition, there will be a 5th, non-playable faction - something having to do with a sci-fi subplot (which, as in JA2, can be turned on or off in the options). * Income will come mainly from your employer (whoever it may be). You can also sell stuff to merchants... if you can find them. * Merc relations will be modeled after JA2. Opposing factions will routinely hire mercs from AIM (remember Mike?...) * Hades is a jerk! * There will be 20 key objectives given by your employer, plus, as in JA2, optional side quests obtained from NPCs. Missions are non-linear: more like JA2 missions (e.g. taking control of SAMs or liberating Tixa) than like in Silent Storm. * Weapons will be reworked, with many JA2 weapons dropped and some new ones added - both well-known and experimental. Weapon specs will be adjusted to emphasize differences between different models. More different ammo types will be added. There will be more different armour, with heavier armour impeding movement. No more mortars. There will be anti-materiel rifles (12.7mm) and stationary heavy MGs. * Initial load-out will be more generous than in JA2. * No more cats. No bugs either. * No information on release date. Some screens here: http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/cgi-bin/ubb...=7;t=000201;p=0 :/

They got Mitsoda (Mitsuda?), one of Bloodlines' writers.

It has nothing to do with including camera views. He'd rather just play the remaining 3rd person titles whether they're bad or good than the next best 1st person game. If he bases his gaming on the camera rather than the quality of the game, that says it all.

Stop arguing, the point is that Hades would rather just play mediocre games in 3rd person than simply good games overall.

I agree with you. The most fun I've had with GoW was when my Brother-in-law came over and we played a bit of co-op. Maybe we should try to get together and play co-op, because I've found the single player campaign utterly boring on my own. The multiplayer also just doesn't pull me in like Battlefield games. I've enjoyed Dead Rising a heck of a lot more, and Spliner Cell: Double Agent seems promising. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hahaha, I love GoW. But I *only* play it coop. In fact, all I've been playing on the 360 are coop games. Coop > all. GoW involving lots of yelling around > GoW. I also love Vegas coop. The 360 version of NHL 2007 is coming up soon as well. As appealing as Dead Rising and Lost Planet and Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey and Mass Effect and whatever other sp game is coming out, they're bargain bin at most. Heck, we just picked up Halo2 for really cheap, and as 'ok' as the gameplay is, it's more enjoyable than what I've played of the DR/LP demo in virtue of coop alone. Put in coop in DR/LP, and that's another story. In the meantime, I have enough sp games on my backlog to not bother with them.

I might pick up SotN again when it's made available on Xbox Live Arcade early next year.

PoR is only my second Castlevania. DoS was my first. (Well, I kinda went through SotN first, got the first ending, got bored, but I didn't really give it much of a chance) I'm not tired of the formula yet, but I can understand the feeling after 10 yrs of Metroidvanias. The level design is fine for me, but people have been saying it's a bit underwhelming. The bosses (most important point for me) are somewhat hit and miss. Some of them are pretty awesome, but some are just kind of bland/cheap. Overall, though, I'm pretty much enjoying the game. I'm only at the second set of portraits, though.

Try non-RPGs that aren't FPS or action games. Puzzle games and survival horrors is not much of an attempt.
