Real Breaking News: Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
Llyranor replied to Sand's topic in Computer and Console
I'm liking what I'm reading about MOTB so far. Story-focused, more content than NWN2 re: character development. I also see it as a good thing that despite that, it's shorter than NWN2. NWN2 was too long - not because I have a short attention, but that NWN2 didn't have enough content to sustain that length without suffering from areas of tediousness. In a way, an Xpac is a good way to focus on tightening the story and focusing on the game content without feeling pressure to make the game long for its own sake, and without having to build the engine/toolset up to speed since it's already done. -
(John Woo's) Stranglehold demo on Xbox 360 Marketplace

Eternal Sonata has awesome music and has co-op. Can't go wrong. Though, from Japanese impressions, it isn't the best JRPG ever. I'm fine with that, though. -

There's something about the textures that looks a bit off. Otherwise, it's fine. -

Nice indeed. Anyway, I trust Eldar. I'll pick up MOTB. I will hunt him down and set him on fire if it sucks, though. -
(John Woo's) Stranglehold demo on Xbox 360 Marketplace
Llyranor replied to J.E. Sawyer's topic in Computer and Console
I got into the demo with no expectations, and ended up pleasantly impressed. There's nothing particularly groundbreaking about the gameplay, but interaction with the environment is very cool. Sliding across tables is more fun than it should be allowed to be. Not having to worry too much about your number of bullets is also pretty nice. Unlocking hard mode after finishing on normal was a nice touch. This diff level actually turns out challenging - I haven't finished it yet, but I've already died more than a couple of times. I'll probably pick up the game eventually, most likely once it hits bargain bin. -

Is the demo good? I'm rather lazy/reluctant to download the whole 1.3gig unless it actually is. -
I haven't had the time to read this pile of crap yet, or ever, but was kind of what I was going for in my mod - going for character development through in-game choices and decisions rather than an OOC character sheet. But then, this was before Nick the jerk backstabbed me in the back with a dagger and ran off with my design documents to sell to Magical Volo - who ate them. The jerks.

I picked up Dead Rising and Lost Planet for the 360 last week since they were at a decent price. DR is self-explanatory fun. Mall. Zombies. Use lawnmowers, skateboards, bowling balls, toy lightsabers, katanas, shopping carts, parasols, other shoppers, etc, to deliver hilarious damage upon unsuspecting zombies. People complain about timed quests and how you can't do everything in one, but I found that it added to the 'survivor' experience. Always being on a deadline helped the sense of urgency quite a bit. Trying to get back to a certain location within a certain amount of time while also escorting other shoppers to safety (which, if needed be, I would dump and let zombies feast on - "awww"), while also stopping by shops to peruse new clothes or accessories provide for some really fun quests. Boss fights were hit and miss. Some of them were awesome, with you running around looking for new weapons or food/health, while others were just cheap - the latter has to do with how ranged weapons/guns weren't that well implemented. All around, great game, though I'm not done yet. LP is also tons of fun. I can see why some of the reviews would have been less favorable, but I don't see those points as negatives. If you time it incorrectly, you can get knocked down by a rocket, then get pummeled repetitively until you die, without a chance of standing up. The game (boss fights) can be pretty unforgiving on hard difficulty, but that's precisely what I love about it. I'm at mission 4 right now, and the boss I'm stuck at I've attempted to beat over 20 times now. I like a good challenge, when solving doesn't just require cheap tactics or grinding, and this game doesn't really allow you either. The boss fights are freaking bloody epic. Games are too forgiving nowadays. The thermal energy is a cool concept too, since it gives you a sense of urgency as you try to defeat your enemies before it runs out. This makes boss fights all the more tense. If anything, the boss battles MAKE this game. I can't disrecommend it except to wuss gamers. Otherwise, I've been my way through Halo coop on Legendary still. Nearing the end. I'm just planning/hoping to finish it and Halo 2 before 3 comes out (4p online coop, mwahahahahahahhaha).

Yay! 10 more years of games Hades won't be playing! -

Hades is right, though. If I were to, say, choose to kill Nick, either by planning the death or because of emotional stress, I would still be making the conscious and hilarious choice to kill a "person". -
Mass Effect hands-on impressions at E3

I don't even know if my Xbox games are being upscaled or not, but they don't look blurry on my HDTV.

What loserface said. Basically, if the games are on the list, then they should be playable. Some apparently have some glitches, but all the games I've tried have worked very well.

I'm still very skeptical about the dialogue system in ME. I mean, if you look at the gameplay footage that just came up, here are the 3 dialogue choices available to the player: 1. You're right. 2. I'll stop him. 3. Not if I can help it! Repeat after me: 1. You're right. 2. I'll stop him. 3. Not if I can help it! Another time, now: 1. You're right. 2. I'll stop him. 3. Not if I can help it! One last time for good measure: 1. You're right. 2. I'll stop him. 3. Not if I can help it! Ahh, Bioware, will you ever stop pushing the envelope for interactive storytelling?

Okay, I just stayed up and watched the Microsoft Conference from the new E3. Overall, it was... erm, okay. Nothing really groundbreaking was announced. What I remember: Gears of War for PC / XP + Vista. Shocking news. Mass Effect trailer had nice music. Lost Odyssey trailer was promising. Interested to see how the gameplay will turn out. No new footage for GTA4, but apparently the prev two trailers were from the 360 version. RE5 short teaser. Not much shown. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21466.html Also, MGS4 on 360. Assassin's Creed demonstration was nice enough. Nice music during the chase scene. Live Action Halo was ROFLASKGJSAKGHASKJGAS New Halo-themed 360 is ROFLASKGJSAKGHASKJGASer. Halo 3 trailer was pretty cool. Nice orchestrated music. Just freaking announce online coop already, jerks. Trailer here http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?ty...k=ethreeblowout Disney + other studios will offer movies on Marketplace. Available tonight. Also, Canada + Europe. Sonic 1 and Golden Axe coming out on Live Arcade tonight. Golden Axe is actually pretty awesome news. Online coop + a decent pricetag means Nick and me start hacking and slashing away. Ultimately, they focused too much on games coming out this year. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but just means no huge announcements. Not actually from the conference, but apparently Blue Dragon demo is out on Marketplace. One of these announcements may or may not be false.

One company specializing in game CG admitted a long while ago that they made the footage. In any case, I find the new Call of Duty 4 singleplayer trailer much more impressive, given that it actually is in-game. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/20756.html -

White Knight is the only PS3 title I'm interested it. Ninja Gaiden Sigma I'm pretty meh about, especially since it's a remake of a game I just finished a few months back. Ninja Gaiden 2 is the title you need to look out for, and Itagaki has numerously said that 'Xbox fans will not be disappointed', whatever that means. Still, if you've never played the original and have a PS3, anyone considering themselves gamers who don't have the reflex level of Hades need to play Sigma. I could give a rat's Hades about FFXIII. I would give one about MGS4 if I played the first 3 titles. That in and of itself makes this an unfair comparison from my end. I have a lot of interest in Too Human - it might be my most anticipated 360 title (this is coming from someone who hated Diablo sp, but enjoyed it enough in coop). Gameplay-wise, it seems a lot more involved, and learning more towards action games like DMC or God of War. Online coop through the whole story = ultimate selling point (no splitscreen, though, you each need the game and a system). Storywise, Silicon Knights apparently has a pretty good track record when it comes to storytelling. Limited footage I've seen of it looks very promising. Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-reyBgXOykw Personally, there are too many coop games on the 360 compared to the PS3 for it to be a fair battle, without even taking other factors into the equation. But that's just my priorities. I skipped the last two gens because of a lack of coop emphasis. That being said, the PS3 does have a few coop games (most being the ones that are multiplatform, though the *current* trend is that the 360 often ends up as having the better version - though that's probably because those get released first, and the PS3 gets semi-rushed ports). And if one of your buddies is willing to let you leech off him on a 360 for coop games, that's an important thing to consider. Many (but not all) of the coop titles have splitscreen. Ultimately, if you buy a system primarily for a game that's not even out yet, that's pretty sad and you deserve to be ripped off. Wait for the bloody title, regardless of system. Though, if you're considering dropping 500$ just to play your PS2 games in the future, :brows: -
I'll get the 360 version. I barely use the PC for games anymore, aside from wargames

I dunno, Nick giggles like a little girl when he chainsaws baddies, and he has pretty high standards when it comes to eviscerating people. It's almost as disturbing as when he burns people in Rainbow 6 Vegas. -
