  1. Absolutely. I forgot that a Muslim University Professor is a University Professor simply because he can regurgitate information. Not because he possesses abstract problem solving skills, and the ability to complete a doctoral thesis! It's because they were taught by intelligent non-Muslims! How could I be so blind!
  2. Nope, its true. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's right! You can actually complete the game without advancing the plot of the story at all. Oh wait...no you can't.
  3. No you haven't. They've been taught by intelligent people giving the illusion that they themselves are also. Then they try and pass on those teaching to people such as yourself, once again reinforcing the illusion. Is a parrot intelligent because it can mimic human speech? For your benifit that was a rhetorical question. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What? If a parrot can demonstrate the ability to have abstract critical thinking as well as problem solving skills, then yes. But hey, you've just given yourself the illusion that you are somehow correct when assessing the intelligence of people that believe in religion because of your own biases against religion. I'm sure the fact that my Muslim calculus teacher was a complete fraud when he taught me transcendental caculus, and was actually not intelligent at all.
  4. No. It's my "Hey look, there is a story" attitude speaking. I don't see how it's "holier than thou" at all, when all I need to do is watch the intro video and see that there is, indeed, a story. Couldn't I claim that you are being "holier than thou" by stating faliciously that Diablo doesn't have a story? I'd give you arguments for Tetris and whatnot, but the story is the entire raison d'etre for Diablo. Even people that want to power through the game and just collect the phat lewt cannot ignore the story outright. In Diablo 2, they're still going to need to save Cain, kill Andariel, enter Tal Rasha's Tomb (but not before acquiring the Horadric Cube and assembling the Horadric Staff), Kill Duriel, Kill Mephisto, Kill Diablo, Defeat the Ancients, and destroy Baal. The fact that people can continue playing in the environment to collect fat lewt doesn't mean that the story doesn't exist. I know myself, and many other people I played the game with, when first starting to play the game, were curious what happened after Diablo 1's hero did what he did at the end. We all watched the cutscenes, and followed the story closely on our first playthrough.
  5. I forgot. You like to use your own definitions of words and apply them in your own specific way. /me smacks self.
  6. I can't remember if pong did. But I never really played pong. I'm pretty sure Tetris did, but I have no idea what it is anymore.
  7. If you don't think Diablo had a story, then you clearly weren't paying any attention. You can argue all you want about whether or not the story is any good. But implying that it didn't have a story is just false.
  8. While I decided to ignore this thread for the most part, I just had to come back in to see what "he" had to say.
  9. I wouldn't have much confidence in it working though.
  10. Well, during those 3 years gaming on the Apple II was still around
  11. Buying the games while I work!
  12. I disagree about Baldur's Gate. As far as I'm concerned, the only story elements came from the plot.
  13. I enjoyed the epilogue! It was fun and made me feel bad ass! Ballers for the win!
  14. I don't know what that means. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I doubt he does either, but it's a knock against the PS3 so he's happy.

ME TOO! Let's go Oilers Let's Go!
  16. Well, you load up a module that has items placed in it from the aurora toolset and you select various patterns and specify the parameters for them. For instance, if you want a secret door, you select the Secret Door pattern, and then specify the two secret door objects you want, as well as the secret door triggers for the destinations. While not available for public yet, we have recently added independent behaviours, so NPCs can have a bit of life in them rather than just standing around. You can have maniuplators that walk around to various objects using them (perfect for like a maid or something), as well as guards that wander around a target that they are supposed to guard, saying random things. When you get to close to the target, they warn you to step away, and if you get closer, they may go hostile (or you can modify the pattern by setting up your own actions so that they do something else). The project has assloads of research papers behind it, from pattern based design (My supervisor just went off to China to a Software Engineering talk to demonstrate it from the pattern perspective, using metrics for coverage and efficiency), to alternative forms of story writing in high school English courses (we just finished a study at a local high school where students spent 4 days working on their own story in NWN). The program is all GUI based though, and most users will go through it never looking at a "real" line of code at all.

Here's hoping we come out like gangbusters and have the ol' "Lets win this thing for Rollie" type series.
  18. I don't disagree with the Vol or the guy that's too elite for me. I just thought I'd give it a try
  19. I follow around Mr. Nash, and as a result became fans of teh Dirk-show. Though I am also a huge fan of Dwayne Wade. Egads he's good. But it's still flag at half-mast time for the starting goalie that brought it all together to help lead his team to the finals! Hopefully the Oilers will rally around that and give him a chance to hoist Lord Stanley like he so rightfully deserves!
  20. Scripting ewwwwwww.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Most of the work I do isn't specifically scripting based, though there is some code gen. The point of the program I work on is to allow people to create scripts without having to do the actual scripting.

My heart goes out to poor Roloson. He was playing like he wanted to win a Stanley Cup, and won't have a chance to be the one that wins it on the ice. I still think the Oilers have a chance. The odds are lessened, but maybe we'll get lucky and the team will come out like gangbusters, and whoever plays in net will play like they have something to prove (since they do). It's hard trying to stay optimisitic.
  22. I'm playing "Cry myself to sleep as my team's starting goaltender has been injured in game 1 of the finals!!!"
  23. Wasn't PS:T merely (1) Discover you can't die, and have amnesia. (2) Learn about your past (3) confront your past? Fallout 1 was merely (1) Your home people are in danger (2) save your home people (3) Go one step further and save teh whole world by killing teh evil mutants. Fallout 2 was (1) Your home people are in danger (2) save your home people (3) Find out your home people were kidnapped, so go one step further and save teh whole world by killing teh evil Enclave. Baldur's Gate (1) Mentor dies...you are sad (2) Realize that people insist on trying to kill you (3) Find out source of those sending people to kill you (4) Kill that person Baldur's Gate 2: (1) Childhood friend gets kidnapped...you are sad (2) Realize that people insist on trying to kill you. (3) Find the source of that which tries to kill you (4) Kill that person. This is kind of fun actually
