  1. That makes much more sense >.>
  2. I understand that. Essentially what I'm saying is, I as a fellow game player and aspiring software developer have less issues with the legitimate owner removing DRM, than I do with people openly proliferating pirated software.
  3. I bet there was as many people asking for an MMO in the KOTOR timeline as there were people asking for KOTOR before KOTOR was announced. Would people have preferred it if Lucasarts made another Jedi Knight game instead of KOTOR? Who knows, maybe SWTOR will be even better than KOTOR was.
  4. Honestly, I'm not even really that concerned with removing the DRM, assuming the one doing so is a legit user. The thing I realllllly hate is when people start profiting off of other people's hard work, all for zero remuneration to the original creator(s).
  5. Where do you come up with this stuff? You seem content to continue to make stuff up with the sole purpose of libeling the game. I can't even think of a point you've made about the game that has actually been factually correct.
  6. How are they not excuses? Even if they are 100% valid and legitimate, they're still excuses. They're using them to serve as justification for their actions. You have people using reasons from price, DRM, game quality, etc. Which games were these? And were they spared from being cracked out of some benevolence, or because the game had flown under the radar because it was a small time game? I know for a fact that this does not come with every pirated game. Certainly not every piece of pirated software. If it's not selfish, and you just want to "stick it" to Electronic Arts, then why bother even downloading the game? If you're downloading the game you must have some sort of desire to actually play the game, which I find humorous because it seems people have an interest in downloading and playing EA games despite how evil they are. Funny how that happens. Unless downloading and pirating video games is not as harmless as people are quick to point out, downloading an EA game is hardly going to any lengths to damage EA. Here's a fact. People ARE selfish. They download the games because they WANT to play them, to satisfy their selfish desire to play the games. If they didn't, they wouldn't bother getting pirated games they didn't feel were worth the money. They'd just move on and do something else. The thing I find funny is that the guy in your post seems content that only 5% of the people straight up said "I do it because I can get it for free." I'd be more inclined to think that I can only definitively state that 5% of the people were straight up honest with him. Human beings make up rationalizations and justifications for their actions all the time, in so much more than just software piracy. Heck, look at yourself. You were quick to point out that they weren't excuses because "excuses" has a negative connotation associated with it. Check it out: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/excuse People that defend software piracy are quick to point out that piracy has a pretty insignificant effect on software sales. If the goal is to "stick it" to Electronic Arts, wouldn't they be better served to NOT pirate EA games, so that anybody that hasn't already bought the game can't be swayed by a pirated game and ultimately buy it?
  7. Why do you say that? Just a hunch? They better deliver on their promises of somehow merging story with an MMO or I agree, they'll be in big trouble.
  8. We have hype from a proven liar, and hype from an unproven person with a lot more substance to back up that hype than the former. You're going to treat both in exactly the same way? I'm not sure why you would do that. Isn't that what we're supposed to do I think it was CrashGirl that said it pretty well. You have some people that see eye-to-eye with what VD values in an RPG. I'm not too surprised you're going to get those people accepting lesser quality in other aspects of the game if they think it'll be more than made up for in other aspects they value.
  9. Salvation. HAHAHA. Why did I ever think you were annoying!?
  10. I remember when Tribes had more people online playing it than copies of the game that had been sold haha.
  11. Digital Rights Management. Essentially, the copy-protection implementation.
  12. You wouldn't need to reverse engineer StarForce to see if StarForce was correlated to destroying discs. All you'd need is a lot of CD/DVD drives. As for your most recent post, I always find it hard to sympathize with those that pirate, and most specifically, those that make lots and lots of money off someone else's work, because of a non-essential product like a video game. I used to make all those excuses too, but the other side of the coin is that while growing up, games I couldn't get through software piracy were games that I would ask for gifts for Christmas and birthdays. So while I might not have been able to afford a lot of games when I was younger, I still found myself with a rather large collection of legitimate console video games, and those developers were fairly remunerated for their hard work. Like your Brazilian friend, when I got into software development it was a major malfunction for me to even consider continuing to pirate software, so I stopped. If it's a game that I'm not confident I'll get my money's worth out of, I simply don't play it, or wait for the price to go down. Pirating a game because it has a DRM on it, or because it's made by Electronic Arts, is simply a selfish behaviour. In fact, I find it ironic that people pirate games from companies that they hate. EDIT: I forgot about this thread. I see some fun responses I missed.
  13. Is it good design to let it get that low?
  14. 0% You would give up at the start due to the flagrantly oppressive atmosphere of Western colonial imperialist Capitalism. LOL
  15. Sounds intense Mr. Mathe. Thanks for coming onto this site to promote the game!
  16. BioWare destroyed Revan and Bastila?
  17. Allow me to echo TIE Fighter
  18. I always did enjoy that
  19. You can still move around with keyboard in a third person style on the PC
  20. Interesting observation. Yeah, if Molyneux had said it there'd be no confidence at all in the potential buyers
  21. Basing it on percentages is a hard thing to do as well. The Law of Small Numbers covers situations where a small number sees a small increase, but the percentage increase is significant. I bet that even with the sharp increase in female arrests and decline in male arrests, men are still more frequently arrested for drinking and driving.
  22. It wasn't the fact that you disagreed that it was a good analogy. It's where you went with it and the blatant disregard of further attempts to clarify, coupled with the assertion that other people were wrong in their interpretation like you somehow knew what I meant, but I didn't. You were still stuck on the charity thing, because it's the only thing you had to try to save face, even when I started explicitly referring to BioWare and IST. I can understand if you didn't get the analogy the way that I intended, because sometimes that happens. It's that you just became obtuse about it when you had nothing to go on. If you can't understand why people would hold works done by different development studios to different standards, then that's your own failing. Seems no one else here has a problem with it.
  23. Sorry, you're wrong j/k As boring as it sounds, I typically look at a game, assess it in its entirety, and decide if it is worth my money based on what I feel about the game. I wouldn't go and pay $50 for AoD over DA simply because AoD is an indie project. I'd buy AoD only if I felt I'd get more for my money than had I bought DA.
  24. I have mispelled Dalish as Daelish a few times >.> Accidental though haha
