Just because my posts accurately call you out for being bitter and jaded doesn't mean they are "stupid" - you are taking some logical leaps and leaving you brain behind. Your ideas have been quoted and addressed all over this forum. Re-quoting them won't do any good since your goal here is to troll.

Honestly, you almost make name calling a fun exercise, cause your edits are kinda cute lol Next time someone calls me a name can you just change it to the world, Pineapple? Personal request! And you solved this by the fact that you stopped playing the game back in April. Your forum activity, in contrast, works against you. Everything you do and say demonstrates your decision making and problem solving, which at this point looks incredibly Pineapple. PoE engages more decision making opportunities and rewards than many games across many genres, and in its current state it is as reactive as most standard RPG's. It's painfully clear that the real reason you don't enjoy the game is because the developers felt your ideas were bad. Which makes the developers smart and leaves you looking like a Pineapple.

Why hatchets?
Zenbane replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
A sword typically gives slashing bonuses, a dagger gives pierce, a mace gives crush... this is a common concept. You don't seem to understand what the word "bonus" means. The word "bonus" does not mean "will animate itself to perform the function for you." What about a Flame Sword? If you saw one in a game would you expect it to give a Fire Damage Bonus? Or would you be like, "omg yeah right, as if the sword is gonna jump up and burn enemies all by itself" ?? lol In other news, One day yupper walks in to the local Blacksmith Shop. The owners says, "Cheers, fellow traveller! Might I interest you in this Godly Hatched of Unrivalled Deflection? Only 1,000 coins!" To which yupper proclaims, "Nice try, Captain Obvious! But I think I will just spend 5 coins for that Butterknife of Haste. After 10 years of training I will be just as effective with the Butterknife, as I would be right now with that Hatchet. That's smart economy baby!" The owner sells yupper the Butterknife of Haste, and throws in a free Potion of Mental Fortitude. -
Ooh, Sensuki called me a name. Resorting to personal attacks when backed in a corner, ya' sad little troll. Thanks for the screenshot but all you did was prove my point: you started with one excuse as to how your combat feedback was ignored, and then follow-up with another fictitious scenario about how your combat feedback just didn't get built in time. Nothing you quoted saves you from the contradiction. As for finding more quotes... I just witnessed you hold a pair of apples in your hand and call them oranges. I doubt that finding more apples will make you realize you're holding a diverse fruit basket. Cant EDIT: Sigh

You should change your username to "Mr. Confused" cause you're missing the mark twice in a row. You said, "I thought it made sense that hatchets inherently provides deflection bonuses." That thought process addresses the weapon in its natural state, independent of the user. But then... "Really, almost any off-hand weapon can be used as a deflection aid in melee combat, because it really just depend on how you use it" That though process addresses the user, with no regard for the weapon. But this discussion is about the weapon, independent of the user. So my point to you, Mr. Confused, is that the way a person may end up using (or not using) a weapon does not impact the attributes that the weapon naturally maintains all by itself. With your line of reasoning, every single weapon should have the exact same attack speed, deflection potential, and damage output. Better yet, if we follow your train of thought... the game just needs one sword, or maybe just one stick? How it functions will just depend on the character build lol -
LMAO! That was great, and I really did laugh beyond these pixels. I grew up with Benny Hill (which likely explains too much); well done. I agree with your assessment on tactics. Personally, I've always enjoyed thinking of gaming "skill" as a whole, which does include Judgement Calls. Whether we're talking turn-based, real-time, or paused-combat... a judgement call must be made to achieve victory. Whether you are meta-gaming or bulldozing through enemies... the victory is most sweet when the reward is the result of a legitimate decision you, the player, made. PoE is one of those games that truly does reward the player for making judgement calls.

Which means that the Deflection relies on the person using the weapon, which means that the Deflection bonus doesn't come from the weapon it comes from the person. This discussion, however, is about why a weapon has the Deflection bonus, mister! -
Hey now, this isn't a therapy session where a Doctor is requesting visual associations lol. You do rely on them because you quit PoE and no longer have a solidified point of reference. In this thread you yourself pointed out that your concerns were dismissed because the developers felt your assertions were limited to the early levels. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/83171-white-march-part-2-officially-announced-coming-january/?p=1750387 "I had some concerns about the combat in the beta but I was basically told that my experience was based on a small level range against underwhelming combat encounters" Although, your explanation changes in the same discussion: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/83171-white-march-part-2-officially-announced-coming-january/?p=1750506 "The response to my concerns about the system design was that it was too late to make changes" So first you say your combat concerns were dismissed but then you try to make it seem like your combat concerns were considered but oh no it was too late to turn PoE in to SoE (Sensuki of Eternity). All you're doing is playing rock-paper-scissors with responses, and consistency is clearly optional. The biggest point you seem to be able to make this past month is that, PoE should be more like Baldur's Gate. Hooray. PoE should never have been a one-for-one clone of BG, and luckily the information we've seen about future PoE updates continue to take us down a unique and much appreciated path. For those of us who still enjoy playing the game. Damn right, captain patty cakes!

We have 2 problems with a conversation like this: 1) A true weapons master would need to provide incontrovertible evidence 2) We are all looking at a static image of a Hatchet vs Dagger vs [insert weapon of choice here] and trying to convince each other to reach a different conclusion Personally I came in to this discussion because I have always loved Axes and the OP tricked me in to believing this was a discussion for Hatchet Lovers. Little did I know that this was secretly a Hatchet Haters Hideaway with no escape lol To summarize my honest opinion on the matter: 1) A Hatchet is engineered in such a way that it functions as a tool and a deadly weapon; the type of engineering and function specific to a Hatchet grants an edge (pun intended) over standard straight-edged weapons like swords/daggers when it comes to Deflection. 2) Straight-edged weapons (swords, daggers, etc) can be used to Deflect an attack, however, this ability is not inherent (natural) in its design and therefore relies on the training of the person wielding the weapon; in contrast to the Axe which has a natural Deflection design inherent to its craftmanship. 3) A larger type of Axe (eg, Battle Axe) does have the same engineering as a Hatchet, however, there are subtle difference in balance, weight, and length that reduce the natural speed/quickness that comes from the smaller designed Hatchet. For these 3 reasons it makes sense, to me, that a Hatchet will grant a Deflection bonus; with the understanding that Deflection is perfectly viable with all other weapon types, they just dont get the damn bonus lol The defense rests, your honor -
True. Oggies was named after a real location inside of Diablo, so it made sense to attract Blizzards Dev's and Designers. SA is a "catch all" type of place so it does seem odd, but I suppose at the end of the day it comes down to the allure of people who are willing to have serious intellectual discussion. But at least we got good folks giving us the scoop here

^^ It's a very common trend with gaming, from my experience. Going as far back as the first Diablo game from Blizzard Entertainment, sure there were the official forums but if you wanted to have a real discussion you went to the real hangout... anyone recall what that was?? Odgens Tavern (aka, Oggies) Developers are smart to seek out discussion boards where real conversation can happen. Official forums tend to be noisy and filled with clutter *coughsensukicough*

Zenbane replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm buying a Hatchet for Christmas in honor of this discussion :-p Yes, yes, that was stated several days ago by the OP, "I'm not very convinced, but thanks for all the opinions!" And these were the replies: "I don't know about anyone else, but I was never trying to convince you" - Cantousent "No one can convince someone of something if they already are set with their preconceived notions." - Yours truly Naturally, those responses can apply to you as well. The fact is that as of now, PoE grants deflection bonuses to a Hatchet. No one (including you) has presented a convincing argument in opposition. All I see are personal preferences, which is cool n' all, but cool aint convincing. Put simply: my proverbial Hatchet deflects your unconvincing Thrusts! -
Here is an idea: Add a Speechcraft type of skill (ala Elder Scrolls) only make it so that you gain levels in your Speechcraft based on how many conversations you interact with. In the PoE world it is possible to skip many side quests and tasks (eg, quests for NPC's like Aloth, Durance, Eder, etc). The only incentive right now is for some potential experience points, coin, items, and of course... story. However, if you're not interested in story (or if you've completed a side-story in a previous playthrough) then there is likely no reason to ever engage in more than half the side quests. HOWEVER! If Speechcraft were a skill based on dialogue engagement, then that would be a high incentive to engage in every story/quest possible. It would satisfy the desire for realism wouldn't it? A character who completes the PoE campaign with very little side questing is not going to be as well versed in dialogue/conversation as another character who literally spoke with everyone. This should definitely be a thing

Zenbane replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes we already covered small swords and daggers vs the Deflection logic of a Hatchet. There are clear differences in them that we really don't need to go over again. Stop taking us backwards, Jerek! lol I get it, some of you don't think that Hatchets should Deflect. And others think that whatever logic is applied to giving Hatchets a Deflection bonus can be applied to anything (like a Battle Axe) ... hooray for slippery slope logic. My bad for seeming to restart the debate. I intended that one reply with a fun joke about fireball headed stealth mode. You hatchet haters can have the last word! -
Can you Baldurs Gate fans move your endearing conversation to an appropriate Off Topic thread? Thanks in advance lol For anyone wishing to look away from that train wreck of a convo... I'm curious about thoughts on Story Mode allowing players to quickly test out new character builds. Both individual builds and group combo's. I assume that the AI would need to really get a decent enough boost in order to allow unique builds to play out properly via Story Mode; or at the very least, OBS can provide a full AI reference that players can use to easily make this happen ourselves. Is there an AI Mod to PoE that I missed somewhere?

Why hatchets?
Zenbane replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Battle Axes are typically 2-handed; and 1-handed versions are still quite large. No one is saying that you can't Deflect with them, the idea is that a smaller version allows for more Deflection than the larger version. And that makes sense. Remember, Deflection <> Block/Parry -
Why hatchets?
Zenbane replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
A Battle Axe and Poleaxe are too large a weapon to do this effectively. The idea isn't just to have a cross-functional tool for deflection, you gotta be lightweight and durable to allow for quick responsive use. -
Wait... what?
Zenbane replied to Bazy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
lol yeah it makes no sense, as "talent with gunpowder" is more commonly used to boast of ones ability to shoot a gun. Maybe Kana is referring to his Miss Rate? I noticed that he misses quite a bit, and loads very slowly. That can certainly count as "talentless"
