  1. Oh I dunno, if you're gonna post about it then you might as well play, na' mean?
  2. Jumpin' Jellybean Jeezus! That made me hungry Point taken, although I wasn't really referring to flat out grinding. Take World of WarCraft or Star Wars the Old Republic as prime examples. There are a plethora of fun/challenging/epic quests and tasks, none of which ever fully resolve to some finality.
  3. The Sunsuki/Fenixp fiasco is about to hijack another thread. Run for your lives!! I like this idea. I can't imagine that this would introduce much combat abuse, and would certainly make sense from a combat simulation perspective. I think.
  4. The first Witcher game comes to mind! And if you really wanna spend time doing low-level tasks without ever saving the world... just pick any MMORPG
  5. Did you just call me consistent? I thought your books proved that to be an impossibility?! And I am taking part in the discussion. I addressed how rest spam takes place out of combat, didn't I? Which, might I add, seems much more insightful than your fine retort of, "i trust developers over posters" lol
  6. Oh I have no doubt that someone can find a book about hypocrites and use that as an excuse to contradict yourself on something as simple as "combat tactics" in a video game. But at least it is becoming more and more clear as to why you incessantly feed Sensuke's need to be heard. So right now when you said, "Any day I'll take the opinion of experienced designers over a poster on discussion boards," clearly you will eventually contradict yourself since everyone is an inconsistent hypocrite, right? When enough time passes, Fenixp will take the opinion of a poster over an experienced designer. Point taken! I, on the other hand, can admit to being inconsistent and hypocritical in some things. But certainly not "all" things. Video games is one of those things that I do not find difficulties with when it comes to consistency and hypocrisy. Sorry to hear the opposite is true for you.
  7. Where "care" and "great" are buzz words you're using to hide the fact that you only really care about your personal opinion, preference, and bias; all of which you clearly think are great. If by "robot" you mean "educated person" then sure. Maybe you find it hard to be consistent, but that's just not something that should be difficult. And yes, the moment an argument has a false premise, it is defeated. That's actually a scientific fact In your case, Fenixp, you are just clearly so entertained by fueling unnecessary fires and beating dead horses to no end, that of course an argument can never be defeated! Of course no one can be consistent. Because... if we applied common sense standards to logical debate, who would Fenixp have left to respond to? lol
  8. It wasn't very different for IceWind Dale. I took baby steps everywhere
  9. Oh, nice find there. That could be quite annoying lol. At least we are aware so that we can take a different route in the meantime.
  10. Some feedback: 1) I can't tell what you were trying to say here, as it almost sounds like you are talking about a game you are making yourself. Hm? 2) Why do you keep using the word "shall" ? Aside from the fact that this isn't the Bible, are you asking for features or are you making recommendations on how someone can play the game differently? 3) I'm pretty sure some scripted AI could handle spell combo improvements. 4) Personally, I do not consider a 10-20 minute boss fight to be a "miserable situation." Many Final Fantasy battles took much longer; not to mention the 6+ hour dungeon raids in MMORPG's like Dark Age of Camelot. 5) Perhaps the reason any character can "eat every f'king chicken in this room" is because the Hound from Game of Thrones made it not only possible, but mandatory for combat effectiveness lol 6) Horses are cool, a central HUB for "porting" long distances is even better. As for the NPC's, I love the dynamic between Eder and Aloth.
  11. Perhaps some people come from that growing mentality of "quick gratification" from mobile App gaming. People wanna load up once, thumb through something fairly painlessly, then say, "that was cool, whats next?" ... before they go download the next thumb war RPG. Having to take part in the long journey of a multi-patched RPG system is more alluring to the classic style gamers.
  12. WarCraft and LoTR have a wealth of background info since they come from a 20+ year history of written Content. Dragon Age is awesome, however, the one thing that all 3 have in common is that the overall approach is very cookie-cutter. Things start to feel overly common, especially if you're a fan of the fantasy realm (final fantasy, elder scrolls, chrono trigger, shining force, secret of mana, Dark age of Camelot, Everquest, Star Wars the Old Republic, etc) I think that PoE does a great job of creating a world that doesn't necessarily feel like the same 'ol cookie cutter story-driven content. Just my opinion tho.
  13. Agreed. When someone asks if they should wait til the game "stabilizes" before playing, it can be compared to asking if they should wait until there are no more cars on the road until they drive. That makes no sense. They are working on it. Meaning it will be BETTER and more fun if I wait. And if I start playing it now I might get bored and I won't want to do another run later. In your case then, perhaps a better analogy would be: should you wait to buy a car until the manufacturer is finished making new models and upgrades? lol They are investing their time into it and trying to make it better. That is not an affliction that is a good thing. Nerf buff is fine. Broken is broken. Just because BG2 didn't care doesn't mean all other games need to remain broken. As fun as casting time stop was with a dual class fighter wizard was and slaughtering everything (it did get old quickly even back then). I'm over that. Some balance is welcome. PoE is not broken. If you think that you will get bored with the game in its current state, then I seriously doubt any of the upcoming updates will be so drastic as to guarantee boredom will not set in for you. Whether you wait to play impacts you and you alone. Maybe a better question is... should you wait to post on the game discussion forums until you actually play the game? Probably.
  14. Agreed. When someone asks if they should wait til the game "stabilizes" before playing, it can be compared to asking if they should wait until there are no more cars on the road until they drive.
  15. This game is impacted very strongly by the player-base due to the fact that it was on Kickstarter. So unlike many other RPG's, this single player game will suffer the same affliction as a multiplayer RPG. Which means that if you think patches that buff/nerf character classes and content will "stabilize" soon then... you should probably consider playing another game. However, if you accept this fact then you (like myself) can start playing now and realize that this game is thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish.
  16. I've already read your thoughts on 'rest spam' in other threads where you broadcast your opinion. I'm not sure why you're so obsessed with it, but you should maybe consider coming up with some other arguments because you're applying it as a default response far too often. Example... Question: "Are there too many immunities in PoE?" Sensuki's answer: "If you dont rest spam you wont reset your spells" Question: "Whats a good Tank build?" Sensuki's answer: "Rest spam is superfluous because Chanters have hitpoints" There is a hefty amount of facts that you just abandon, like the fact that a player does not have to use all of their skills/spells for every single battle in PoE. Half the time my group does exactly what Fenixp described: Only in key (eg, "boss battle" like situations) moments do I need to consider resting so that my team is at full health/endurance. But even that rarely happens since I tend to have all my "per rest" skills and spells available anyway. But according to you - someone who hasn't played the game since April yet is approaching 10,000 forum posts - players have to rest spam and play badly. You might as well claim that PoE forces players to pay money for in-game items while you're at it. I'm sure there is an online "RPG Complaint" generator somewhere that could help you come up with more creative yet equally non-applicable retorts. You did completely contradict yourself with the whole "trivialize combat" fiasco; which I assume is the reason you now can't stop typing "rest spam." I honestly have no idea what point you're trying to make, I just know that if one were to draw out the logical flow of your arguments... the end result would be something that closely resembles the shape of oatmeal.
  17. Found this entry in the Catacombs and couldn't help but notice that it reads very similar to Rock Lee when he was drunk fighting Kimimaro in an episode of Naruto. "Where am i? Wot is dis?" Any confirmation of this?
  18. Yeah those are definitely some consoled items. That first sword is just a larger-than-life reflection on the ground. Either than or an over-sized sword with no graphical textures applied. Either way, I think the point of this thread is to make jokes via external graphic manipulation.
  19. I do, but they're not the same. To fix that problem in the IE games you simply don't rest spam. In Pillars of Eternity you have to play badly. Of course they are not the same; that didn't need clarification. They are obviously different, but different in that way that shows you completely contradicted yourself. Different in that way that illustrates the fact that consistency and sensibility are "optional" during your forum crusades. So not only did you contradict yourself by making two opposing arguments, you then tried to reconcile your contradiction by saying "different things are not the same." lol Also, "resting" occurs outside of combat whereas your contradictory statements clearly address tactics taking place during combat.
  20. Agreed. For me, stronghold (housing) implementations in an RPG give a depth of immersion that is quite spectacular. I like the SIM aspect to it, and of course the RPG elements (eg, impacting the world around you). I would like to see more work done in regards to: 1) Strong consequences for leaving a Stronghold unbuilt and unguarded (Heroes of MM comes to mind) 2) Grand rewards for flourishing strongholds (eg, increased safety in the surrounding regions, more taxes, more armor/weapon smiths giving greater gear) 3) More storylines to having a fully populated Dungeon/Prison (eg, prisoners trying to break out; people trying to rescue prisoners) Probably one of the coolest things I could imagine in this context, is having it to where the "strongest" NPS-created weapons/armor can only be achieved by a fully upgraded and flourishing stronghold. In this sense, you attract craftmanship that is not available any other way. Stuff like that
  21. I chose to play through the entire campaign once before buying White March. I want to experience the game fully in its original format, and with each major change. otherwise I feel like I'm losing out on a bit of gaming history, na' mean?
  22. lol, well unless his Character grows about 100 times in size, that Sword is staying put :-p
  23. $200 is an exceedingly small amount. Im sure the dev's are grateful but to use that amount to justify his repeated negativity is wrong, imo. Also, I never stated that he is a clueless nobody. He is someone who did something in the past to promote a game, now he is someone who does things to negate the game.
