Camera angle in PoE vs BG2
Zenbane replied to Ineth's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm pretty sure everyone knows you think that BG is better than PoE in every imaginable way. Do you post on the Baldurs Gate forums with the same level of dedication? Just curious. -

The White March part 1 and 2 are expansions, but the main campaign has in fact been complete since its public release. Plenty of gamers have completed the PoE main campaign. -

Hey congrats; I have my first turning 1 years old this December. I too am only allowed one single video game commitment at any given time lol Although since my day job is as a software developer, I get to sneak in a casual second (sshhh). Right now it's PoE and Wizardry 8. -
Fog of War Options, Please?
Zenbane replied to Asmodean-'s topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The developers do glance at the forums often, and even take part in active discussion. Just because some of you are ignored (and rightfully so) doesn't mean the developers aren't doing their civic duty. It's impossible to please everyone, and the OP of this thread presented this issue quite terribly. Example of dev's actively responding to forum discussion and game needs: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/82857-300-patch-teased-by-josh-on-sa/?p=1753672 -
Fun Factor Poll

You get a free pass since the outcome of your testing is some quality build suggestions. I'm very much looking forward to your Backlash Bedlam when WM2 comes out. Out of curiosity, are there any other RPG's you are active in where you perform build tests? If you haven't performed a full playthrough of PoE then "both" would kinda be a lie of sorts, no? I'm pretty sure you are a play-test vote. -
Fun Factor Poll
Zenbane replied to Zenbane's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by the results of this poll. With all the talk of builds and the impact of patching, I thought it was a no-brainer that most people spend more time trying new builds than they do committing to a full playthrough. Guess I was wrong! -
PoE sells 500K units
Zenbane replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Your blanket hatred for the mobile world might be preventing you from enjoying a generations old genre: Dungeon Crawler RPG's. I'm not a huge fan of mobile app's nor mobile games (I literally dislike trying new app's of any sort). However, I also detest the idea of not being on the forefront of technology. One of my recent favorite Dungeon Crawlers is Legend of Grimrock, and they recently released their grid-based crawler rpg for mobile devices: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/legend-of-grimrock/id965096605?mt=8 I beat both LoG 1 & 2 on a PC, but I have to say that grid-based RPG gaming has the potential to make a huge comeback via the mobile platform. It's a perfect marriage, imo (eg, using an iPad to solve puzzles and combat enemies in an grid-based world seems like the best use of an iPad ever lol). http://www.hellokittyonline.com/game-info/hko-basics -
PoE sells 500K units
Zenbane replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
aahh! So they are making both a mobile App game and a free-to-play MMORPG with in-game purchases: https://aw.my.com/us/news/general/gold-and-premium-account-coming-armored-warfare Good! Now that we know how daddy is paying the bills, bring on the PoE updates -
PoE sells 500K units
Zenbane replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No one either stated nor suggested that it was "easy," learn to read. Nothing in life worth doing is easy, and hard work helps define achievement. However, knowing your target goals and which market yields the best reward for those goals is a key to success; where "success" is whatever you define it to be. In this case, if OBS primary goals were to re-invigorate the RTwP single-player RPG genre in an award winning way that also used crowd-funding... then they succeeded. If, however, OBS decides that all that jazz is secondary to financial success, then perhaps a different market is more ideal: like phone app's or a free-to-play MMORPG with in-game purchases. Keep in mind that this is just a sidebar discussion taking place because the main topic of "over 500k units sold" turned in to a discussion about ongoing financial success -

PoE sells 500K units
Zenbane replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm pretty sure a single player RPG is more about a personal goal and contribution, as opposed to financial success. If someone wants to focus heavily on money in gaming, then a phone app is where ya wanna go. Anyone here see how much Candy Crush sold for this year? It's in the Billions lol -
Why hatchets?
Zenbane replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I started having dreams about Mel Gibson once this thread hit Page 3. Agreed on the true reason behind Hatchet Deflection Bonus: it's the Gibson Tribute. -
Why hatchets?

Yeah I think we can all agree that a hatchet made entirely of wood should not have a Deflection bonus. -
PoE sells 500K units
Zenbane replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Criticism is good and healthy and drives the free market. However, fact that this forum does not ban creators of unnecessary noise pollution might be the reason that the game developers spend more time in open discussion on other forums. Food for thought. PoE has given life back to a much loved genre. I look forward to its ongoing success. -
A query on combat gameplay
Zenbane replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think Sensuki and myself had a fair dispute. It never got ugly and we ended fairly. I see no reason to have purged any of it. If Fenixp doesnt like reading it then he should take his own advice. -

Zenbane replied to Zenbane's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Agreed. When I get the urge to test out a new build I just purchase a new hirling and run a side quest. Normally I lean towards repeated build tests, but with some games I get addicted to the full playthrough. Games like Shining Force and Final Fantasy come to mind. Games where the build test takes priority (for me) include: Diablo, Legend of Grimrock, every MMORPG -

I actually bought it from there: http://www.gog.com/game/forgotten_realms_the_archives_collection_one I printed out the manual and a few maps to get the adventure started. This is one of those that I never got around to beating; time to remedy that Christmas 2015, fo sho -
Curious to know what people enjoying doing more. Or at the very least, have spent more time doing.

PoE sells 500K units
Zenbane replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hearsay aside, that's great news. My Christmas will involve: 1) A full PoE WM playthrough 2) A classic gaming playthrough (likely Wizardry 8 but I'm eyeballing "Eye of the Beholder") 3) Some Fallout 4 addiction -
A query on combat gameplay
Zenbane replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No. "Save scumming is where something happens in a game that you don’t like as a result of your actions, and so you load an earlier save for a chance to undo it. It’s cheating, in other words" http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/03/01/confessions-of-a-save-scummer/ Which is something you definitely do: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/rpg-codex-review-darth-roxor-on-disappointment-thy-name-is-pillars-of-eternity.98676/page-100#post-3932497 Also, you not only Save Scum in games, but you also Save Scum on forums: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3706905&pagenumber=435&perpage=40#post444036827 If anyone pays close enough attention, it becomes clear as to why you complain about certain things. eg, you hate disengagement in PoE because it means you can't exploit combat AI the way you did in BG. You tried and failed on Something Awful (over 1,00 posts there), you tried and failed on RPGCodex (over 8,000 posts there), so you reload your redundant postings here (over 9,000 posts on Obsidian). Goodness! SA gave you the "Autistic Aspergers" logo, and RPGCodex gave you the Cucker logo; you really should take a hint already. Some one-time good intention advice: stick to posting about games that you actually enjoy, because your attempts to ridicule games you dislike falls flat due to your inherent nature to inadvertently reveal your personal gaming tactics which end up being a hundred times worse than the thing you're trying to ridicule. Forum jumping won't help because you know... the Internet. You're a good QA tester, Sensuki, but a terrible analyst. White March 2, a PoE turn-based spin-off, and a PoE sequel will rock the socks for RPG lovers everywhere. Love it or leave it lol -
I always play on Normal because I assume the game has been balanced for that setting. Changing difficulties tends to cause a shift in things like character builds and effectiveness so I avoid it. Example of these shifts: 1) A cheese build becomes overly viable in Easy mode 2) Cookie Cutter builds become overly necessary in Hard mode The Normal setting in most RPG's (hack n slash, traditional, etc), seems to provide the most balance and diversity.

Zenbane replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If you lurk on Something Awful, Sensuki brags there as well about spamming Save/Reload as a strategy to get through challenges. If you make fun of the irony though, he'll pretend he uses Save/Reload to "learn and get better" - but really he's abusing it to advance. But yeah... PoE forces players to "play bad" because you can carry a max of 4 camping supplies lol
