Bitching on this forum
Zenbane replied to brindle88's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I don't believe brindle realizes he is trolling. I mean, he posted a topic about the general notion of "bitching" on a forum titled after a video game. Then calls everyone else a troll if they don't support his off topic cry for help. That Thailand heat can certainly melt a brain away, whooo.... -

Why can we loot the NPCs?
Zenbane replied to Kilburn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I recently test drove my buddies Lincoln and realized that as soon as I pushed the gas a message should have come up saying, "only usable by" before shutting off. Instead it started and drove splendidly. Screw you, Matthew McConaughey! -
Shame on you, Obsidian.

I dont disagree necessarily with your views on Kickstarter projects; however, I would add that the smartest thing to do is only donate an amount of money, time, and energy, that you are comfortable losing. The same rules a smart person uses when sitting at a gambling table in Vegas. -

Credits rolled in my head once i hit act 2 and i quit and started looking for another game. Lol I don't really agree with the extreme to which this equipment thing bothers you, but that credits rolling in da head thing made me LOL in RL. Well done, sir! -

How did the game break after you took another NPC's equipment? Was there an error message? The did credits start rolling? Details please lol -

"only usable by" ruins immersion Unless of course we are talking about magical gear, or lets say that body armor made entirely of fire can only be used by Fire Godlike characters, etc. That makes sense. But stopping me from wearing someone elses t-shirt even when it's my size... that's just rude. -

My opinion is that the world is flat. I'm also pretty sure that the topic is kind of ... Well, off-topic :-P lol @ flat earth And you're right, this thread doesn't belong on a PoE discussion board. -
You called the moderators Nazis, which is a personal attack, and they did not personally attack you. You called me clueless, which is a personal attack, & I had not personally attacked you. I did see some of your posts before they were deleted and they were filled with hate. Other people saw them as well which is why someone said you would normally be banned if this forum was truly strict. You are confusing freedom of expression with freedom to be terrible.
-
And I hate even more people that try to push their moral authority on me and try to limit my freedom of expression. Especially around superfluous stuff like talking about games. Spam and ad hominem attacks are unintelligent forms of expression that are against the EULA that you agreed to when you signed up to post under what is clearly meant to be an ironic forum name, "archangel." You call the Mod's nazi's and compare the forum to North Korea - not because you are presenting smart thoughts that are being silenced, but because you can't properly handle your terrible ideas being countered by intellectual people thus resort to emotional outrage which ends up getting justifiably deleted. And then you demand the removal of posts that made you backflip in to an emotional mess. You literally want the the posts of people who make you angry to be deleted, and your argument is because your hate-filled speech that followed was deleted. Your ideas are not what is being censored, but you did cry for the Mods to remove ideas that cause you to hate. That is true mindset of a "nazi" which is yet another hilarious irony. It is not a moral authority that is being pushed upon you, it is an intellectual baseline. Right, so unless you can exploit a game with a feature, then you will ridicule it as not being "interesting." You argue against PoE because in your world, elegant is bad and interesting in good - and apparently where you come from something can't be both elegant and interesting. Yet here you are referring to the one example to back up all your rants in a way that literally praises your ability to abuse something that you call "interesting and good." This is the only thing that makes sense of the last 3 pages of terribleness lol
-
So you're hoping to stay vague enough to avoid a fact-based discussion. Well that's a more creative approach than saying "it's just an opinion" lol This isn't about the 4 main defenses, this is about the spell system. Chanter vs Druid vs Mage vs Priest What's the mystery formula/schematic that is copy pasted across them all?
-
It is possible to be both interesting and elegant - these only became mutually exclusive because of a video game debate gone wrong lol Elegance should be interesting for anyone who, you know, has standards n' stuff. Comparing PoE's magic system to games like Final Fantasy, Diablo, Wizardry, Elder Scrolls, and Baldur's Gate doesn't reveal anything in regards to "interesting vs elegant," it simply reveals different levels of elegance which some may find more interesting than others. Were you planning on describing the details of this formula/schematic, or was this just a quick drive-by-labeling?

First either find or create a mask that emulates any of the Godlike creatures. Then, post a picture here of you wearing the mask "before" you put a hood over it, then another pic "after" you put the hood on. From there we should be able to address the feasibility of the request While I personally do not find it realistic to wear a helm/hood that could make either Death, Fire, or Moon Godlike's become less conspicuous, I do think that the Nature sub-race should be able to blend in to their background when out in the wilderness (or any tree-heavy environment). They wouldn't need a hood for that though. Also, I think that the whole idea is that Godlikes are already wearing "natural" helmets that give them special abilities. In my scenario, the Nature Godlike would have a special ability of "stealth +X" when in Wilderness.

In all seriousness, I do believe that you are the first. Unless I goof'd up a Google/YouTube search then you should put it out there "on the line" ! If someone else has already done it then those videos will get posted. But for now, yours would be the first! A worthy cause, imo. -
'Low effort' is not an opinion or a feeling, it is a statement about the work required to design a certain system. In this case you are simply wrong, it does not take less effort to design an elegant system than an 'interesting' one. It is not a feeling but it is surely an opinion just like everything you say as well. "Low effort" is not an opinion, it is something that is measurable and can be quantified. That is literally the exact opposite of an opinion. You are pretending it is an opinion in order to justify saying something that is completely incorrect. The actual effort can be measured and can be factually concluded as residing in a category that exceeds the basic understanding of "low." If anything, it is either "medium" or "hard." Elegant Facts > Uninteresting Opinions

If you wish to remain clueless about the terrible ideas you are defending, then of course you don't need to let experience interrupt your blind crusade. My links were to direct you towards experience, and instead you claim I'm clueless while defending your right to remain clueless. No wonder you believe interesting is better than elegance; one requires experience, education, and talent while the other lets you post anything on the Internet. I actually said that the word "interesting" can be replaced with "clueless" which is different than calling you clueless, but as your emotions continue to get the better of you in this debate your reading comprehension is racing on the opposite end of the "elegant" spectrum. You claim that interesting design is best yet you fail to say anything either interesting nor elegant, making your fight in this thread as intimidating as a muppet wielding a plastic spork. Hmm, but you just said, "you are pretty clueless for anyone that reads your discussions with Sensuki," which I'm fairly certain confirms that He is your god and you are his prophet lol Preaching from the Baldurs Gate bible will not get you to RPG heaven faster. PoE sales are fine, and will continue to increase as time and content evolves.

I'm pretty sure that was a fabricated "best practice" spinoff that totally butchers real advice from real designers. Some better quotes: The idea that "interesting design is good" makes absolutely no sense, since someone who has no idea how to design anything at all can find even the most terrible of designs to be "interesting." In this context, the word "interesting" can simply be replaced with "ignorant" and the word "elegant" can be replaced with the word "quality." In which case we can see why that original advice was so terrible: "Quality design is a bad design choice, ignorant design is a good one."
