From what I understand the last few times they've voted for independence it has passed but with low voter turnout. The regional government has voted for it as well but I guess since there are no provisions for secession in the Spanish constitution any and all votes are deemed illegal. Numbers or someone more knowledgeable can correct me if I'm wrong PS I have no idea if the majority are in support of independence or if it's just a vocal minority but as they seem to be seeking a peaceful break it's never going to happen because as you can see from the Spanish reaction they aren't going to just let them go
