  1. Alright, so you make a beam with limited length. But then you don't have a sword, because it can't deflect another beam. Maybe lightsabers have a magnetic charge? Err... that would make fighting on ships dangerous, unless you use non-magnetic metals in your spaceships, and have computers that don't use magnetism for anything important. To control photons with a magnet, though... I don't know... it might have to be a magnet capable of rotating a small planet, at least. Not that I know any math behind this. Ions, or plasma? Let me explain what made me think of ions: "The sun gives off high-energy charged particles (also called ions) that travel out into space at speeds of 300 to 1200 kilometres per second. A cloud of such particles is called a plasma. The stream of plasma coming from the sun is known as the solar wind. As the solar wind interacts with the edge of the earth's magnetic field, some of the particles are trapped by it and they follow the lines of magnetic force down into the ionosphere, the section of the earth's atmosphere that extends from about 60 to 600 kilometres above the earth's surface. When the particles collide with the gases in the ionosphere they start to glow, producing the spectacle that we know as the auroras, northern and southern. The array of colours consists of red, green, blue and violet. " Notice the common lightsaber colors anywhere in that sentence? The problem is that this could unpredictably effect electrical equipment, and would probably create noxious gas whenever it was used, probably ?? resulting in death of the wielder. So, lets say the saber is a bunch of high-activity particles, or plasma. You activate a controlled, charged ion field which sets free the particles of plasma on a set path. This is all, of course, tied to the nature of the crystal that you use to hold and control such particles. Such crystals are, in Star Wars lore, connected to the Force in some way. So then we'd need to discover the Force. If a Sun can't control it's own ion's and plasma, how else could a lightsaber? In perfect equilibrium, losing minimal heat or energy? Without creating massive amounts of dangerous radiation, and/or heat, and or/magnetism?? I say: Lightsabers come from the same place the Force did. But I have an idea. Lets say you have a rod, like your average lightsaber replica blade, that attaches to a handle and emits colored light. Neat. Then you put a strong magnet in the core of the light, and when you hit the two saber replicas together you get a neat feeling of resistance, and the magnet core pushes the casing of the lights (which is necessarily a little supple) inward, so that the light at that point shows brighter. You know how LCD's get warped when you touch them? There you go. Plus, you can spar with it.
  2. I was wondering, if anyone out there is a little bit savvy about sound/music cards, particular an add-on sort of card that would provide my notated compositions a little oomph without having to get a 5000 dollar setup?
  3. the games for PS3 are going to be 90 bucks? Like, literally? Wow. Where can I find this info to confirm?
  4. It doesn't have to be cut content in order for something to be missing. All stories have a problem with something missing - some more than others. But then the cut content we restore might bring up other issues that weren't there before, or it might totally refocus the story. That may not be a bad thing.
  5. Just reinstalled KotOR II, and I'm having this weird colored banding problem - rainbow-iridescent swathes of color cover doorwars and the occasional section of ceiling or floor on Peragus. I haven't gone further in the game, because this is too annoying. The coloration is predominantly green, but also ranges to purple and a little bit of red. The only other time I've seen this was with Far Cry before it was patched to support the 6800, and as I recall Far Cry would sometimes show big black, empty squares as well, making me think this is a texture-reading issue or somesuch. As far as I can remember, this is the same computer I've always played TSL on. I've never had this issue before. I've tried a number of things, but I want to hear what ya'll think I should do first before saying more.
  6. What ****ing rumour mongers. (talking about diggs.com) Do they have credibility? God I hope not.
  7. I see it as him not being terribly active to either side, really. Everyone seems to agree that Jolee bindo doesn't DO anything that's really, really terrible, but neither does he do anything of major good. He also says some very "druidic" things on Kashyyk... besides that, I outright disagree that DnD is better for grey characters than star wars. Sure, it doesn't give a name to it - but you can basically do the same archetypes, as they're both based on myth and legend.
  8. I wish KotOR had a good RPG system, like KotOR II. The first game sort of sucked in terms of character options; and the augmentation of Force ability through skills really added a lot to the second game. Honestly, I can barely remember Malachor... but I remember the confrontations on the Starforge all too well. I think that, primarily, and this is hard to explain, the second game didn't seem to MOVE you along like the first game did. Level design? VO? I don't know.
  9. It would be hard to do a silver saber justice, I think. IT would probably just like a great big LED...
  10. The random spawn of lightsabers was cheap. I had this happen to me in two of my own playthroughs...
  11. though the dialogue was extensive, it felt pretty rushed. It all looked like potential high quality... and there was a fairly interesting character in Kreia.
  12. Wow. This stuff's a lot better than the earlier threads I remember. I don't know if I can top any of this, but a long time ago I had a concept of Bastila trying to open a door to the ruins on Dantooine. I remember being rather proud of it... I'll see if I can find it...
  13. So, has the population ever picked up? Is the server less laggy?
  14. I find t he game to be more oriented towards thinking ahead than most RTS', in that good against/bad against actually has meaning to it. However, much of the strategy involves an excessive amount of micro-management, something the developers didn't seem to consider at all. Also, beware: The galactic map, where you deploy your campaign on the larger scale, is in REAL TIME, not TURN BASED as in the total war games. It's a serious, serious pain in the ass, although the AI is still pathetic enough to beat anyway. It's just a very point and clicky type of game.
