  1. I didn't think much of it, but OP makes a lot of good points. The quality of the story wasn't bad at all, but it would have been much better if at least one or two companions had a bigger stake in the story. I also wanted them to voice their opinion more often on what exactly I was doing. They don't seem to mind you murdering people for cruelty, but Aloth really has a lot to say about pro-animancy choices. Pallegina should be more vocal about aggresion, and the others about murder in general - none of them are cruel people (except maybe Durance, but he would favor punishment rather than murder anyway I think).
  2. Well, my Wizard has 93 base will, plus 10 from Kana's chant (which begins at the beginning of combat), plus Mental Fortress, and Fampyrs charm him with a 100% success rate every fight. I honestly think that Fampyrs are broken though. Ignoring the fact that they use Charm ANIMAL on my Wizard (I was just drunk when I called him that!), the spell has 10.000m range. They detected my rogue planting a trap waaaaay ahead of the rest of the group (they were waiting at a chokepoint), and the first thing the Fampyr does is cast charm on my Wizard.
  3. Oh please, stop thinking that Pillars will sell "a million" . What means it anyway? If the number of sold copies will raise significantly in the future then because of 60 oer 80% sales. The mayor turnover already happened, the important sale time is over. Obsidian made about 10 Million $, i thinks thats ok for an extremly niche game like Pillars. Relative high sale numbers like LoG 1 or D:OS where exceptionsm, there is a reason why the "cRPG" grenre is dead and crowdfuning was needed. This kind of gamers are now the main clientele for rpgĀ“s : What exactly is the problem with "that kind of gamers?" All I see is a bunch of dudes holding controllers and a judgemental prick.
  4. When I start a new game, it will start paused and I cannot unpause it. It can be unpaused if I alt tab, then press the pause button. I think this might be happening if you alt tab while in character creation.
  5. My load times are normal, but I have the same problem regarding VO. I have mostly noticed it on Durance.
  6. I have a problem as well. I have mostly noticed it during Durance's VO. He skips much of the dialog, he usually just says a few words starting from the end of a sentence.
  7. Haha, ok. I have always killed that pack before activating the forges. Thanks for nothing, spirit
  8. Well, I'm filthy rich (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5gMMymtFcc) . 70k copper pieces and not much to do with them. The unique items that you can buy are ok, and their prices are pretty fair. The summon items are expensive, but worth it. But it kind of annoys me that everyone in the game deals in pennies, at least from a story perspective. Bribes are around 1000 cp at most, rewards around 500g, and nothing really costs you other than the things you buy from a shop. What I'm saying here is that things should be more expensive to keep up with the huge amounts of gold you get from killing things. Pretty much every xaurip ever drops a shield, a spear plus more. Whenever I get out of a dungeon and visit a shop, I can arm every citizen of Defiance Bay... twice. There' a huge amount of gold coming in and not much to spend it on. I wouldn't complain about this, but the story offers many possibilities of bartering, blackmailing people for money, or doing things to squeeze out as many rewards as possible from quest givers. But you don't need to, so it makes these choices quite worthless. In other games, I have found it fun to play a decent, stoic person who doesn't care much for gold - but when needed, I wouldn't hold back on getting the gold I required as fast as possible. Basically, in PoE there is never any need. If you want to barter, you do it for RP purposes. It really doesn't matter if I get 500 or 1000 or even 10000 gold from a quest when I already own everything I need for my adventures and have 60k on top of it. So, I think it would have been good if players weren't showered with weapons and armors from combat. Maybe guarantee the drop of armor and weapon for the first times the players encounters them (so you get that shiny plate armor the first time you kill a plate wearer) but have a low chance of getting them as a drop when you kill your 5th plate wearer. Also, slightly increasing the price of hirelings in the stronghold as well as some of the more optional stronghold upgrades. Some other things could be included in the game as a money sink, such as voice changes or appearance swapping on items. Having to spend money to advance the story isn't a crime either I think, as long as people get SOME hint that it might be needed a bit later on. Also, an achievement for getting filthy rich would have been nice, if it only was a bit more challenging
  9. Only one thing I care about: did they make enough money to keep going? I don't really care about PoE 2, or even this type of RPG in general. I love games with a good story, regardless of genre. I'd be happy if for a while Obsidian decided to make a more popular type of game just so they can keep going for as long as possible. What I wouldn't give for another Fallout or KotOR made by Obsidian... I supported this game not because of nostalgia for the genre, but because the company has done great things in the past and I don't want it to end It seems to me like lack of money was always a problem, and their games would have been even more awesome if they had more time and money.
  10. How are buff durations low? Most of them are still going by the time enemies are dead, even on PotD. I use Minor Blights, Deletrious Alacrity and Infuse Vitality, the shortest duration buff is Alacrity which lasts 42s... I think I only had to rebuff it once.
  11. Well, seeing how the game is now, it really makes sense to not have pre-buffing. It would be quite broken otherwise, considering enemies would have to be tougher all around and we only have a few spell casts per rest as it is. Still, I would have loved to play a Battlemage and it's basically impossible with the current system. Not only that you can't prebuff, all buffs end after combat. Oh well. I guess they balanced it however they could, but overall I'm not happy with how the casters work. Dragon Age Origins had a much nicer casting system imo, with the defensive buffs being modal and instant in combat (at a quite high cost), which allowed for A LOT more build diversity.
  12. I have been shafted by these talents as well in the beginning. These types of attacks have to miss to be completely avoided, even a graze will affect your characters (but for 50% less duration). A plus 10 to these defenses isn't much, and from my experience even my tanks which are custom built for resisting stuff, with +10/15 will items and defense buffs from the priest and items will almost always get at least grazes by Confuse and Charm. It's a balance issue imo. Paralyze doesn't hit as often on my tanks, which is nice. Body control was ok on the tanks, but not on other party members imo.
  13. This thread is 12 pages long and filled with garbage tbh, Paladins have absolutely no problem in finishing the game on the hardest difficulty level (even TCS) in more than one role. They're "not THAT bad". Stop feeding the trolls and let the thread rest.
  14. The truth is, when you kill Raedric and go back to Gilded Vale, not much changes. Poor Aufra still thinks that a Hollowborn will mean their deaths and I can't tell her otherwise. Things could have been done better in many parts of the game. There are times when you realise that no matter what you say, you will get the exact same response. Maerwald will say "how little we know", no matter what you choose. Not very nice.
  15. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't find Priests helpful. I have actually mostly play with a team, but what can really affect these spells? AFAIK it's just a Will check for Charm or Dominate which means Holy Meditation would be nice, but practically the enemies usually get the first cast before Holy Mediation is up and even if it is, I haven't had much luck in the spells being resisted anyway. My tanks also have 17 plus Resolve, which would be very helpful you'd assume, but even Grazes can destroy your frontline. Supress Affliction unfortunately affects only allies, so it doesn't supress Charm or Dominate (I will test against Confusion again, but IIRC it didn't work either). Generally I'm not against the spells, I think that they are quite fun and need handling (such as when one of the backline gets charmed), but when it's almost 100% reliable on the frontline, the people who are built to withstand such attacks, it gets a bit annoying. I took a trait just to try to counter these, but it didn't help at all. @Bugged Wolf: Yeah, it is alright. The game can be finished despite these things, but that doesn't mean things can't be improved. Especially for people trying the achievements. I am going for Triple Crown now, which I don't think is so niche. I expected this game mode to be balanced as well, and I think that these skills need some tuning.
  16. If not menacing, at least rude. I'm not a fan of it either. The theme is "stand your ground". Even if you get caught in a lie, your character is firm. It doesn't sound very nice in many cases though.
  17. I haven't played one as a melee fighter, but they are amazing tanks and ranged attackers. As a tank, he can easily keep himself alive and provide extra Deflection to the other tank or emergency healing. The per rest abilities that come from being a Watcher are great too. He can either provide a lot of support and remove buffs from enemies, which is just awesome. I use a Moon godlike and Consecrated Ground boots, it's basically god mode. I had Pallegina as ranged support for some games, she does great with an Arquebus. Huge damage with her weapon and extra Fire Damage, accuracy buff for your ranged party members (and converting hits to crits) and emergency healing. If enemies get past your front liners, she can intercept them and become a wall herself until your damage dealers kill it. It does depend on what you need though, a CC heavy team doesn't benefit so much from a Paladin. I had a game when my Wizard's job was basically to Slicken, Combust and Chill Fog all the time while my Druid was DoTing everything to death; Paladin tank didn't really bring much, so I switched him for a Chanter and got much better results. I have mostly played on Hard with Paladins, and am going through PotD with one as tank for now.
  18. These spells are in dire need of some rebalancing I think. Charm, Dominate and Confusion are extraordinarily annoying: first, they can't really be defended against. They must completely miss to be resisted (no effect) which even on tanks happens rarely. It's especially annoying when enemies spam confuse, like the Spores. And the spores target Deflection from what I can understand, but even the tanks get affected most of the times... The second annoying part of these spells is the fact that as soon as their current target dies, party member AI decides that it's number one priority is to destroy the affected ones. On these spells, if nothing else gets changed, they should at least receive a hefty minus to Accuracy (at least 15). They are simply too reliable. Also, I would actually suggest that Confuse no longer make allies into enemies. They could still force attack an ally as part of the confusion effect. Paralyze is a bit too strong I think, both from spells and traps. It is quite reliable and makes fights where it lands too easy. The duration is also too high on most Paralyze spells. I think that either the durations should be lowered, or Paralyze should come with a drawback (such as making the enemies invulnerable while it's in effect). It is also quite broken when the enemies land it, outright killing you if you play solo.
  19. So, Hiravas has 8 casts of Fireball for free from somewhere (not sure where). Anyway, when I only have one Fireball left and I use it, it will not complete casting, and Hiravas will just end up being stuck (with the Fireball icon above his head) until I knock him down with Prone (after that, he will be able to perform other actions). The fireball Icon is gone and I can no longer cast any Fireballs with him.
  20. Not sure if this happens every game, but I have found a container where I could click on Collect All and I would get the Moonstone every time I clicked, and I could do it over and over again. I have obtained about 30 Moonstones in this way, possibly the gold too (I haven't checked before). It's in the inn in Brackenbury. 21. There is a joke Pistol called The Disappointer in the Encampment map (the first map), hidden in one of the tents at the abandoned camp. Funny description
  22. I am not allowed to edit the post, so: Instill Doubt (priest): The hover tooltip on this one is wrong, it says it reduces the speed of enemies, when in fact it Dazes. Shields / loading screen tip A loading screen says that shields increase recovery time, but there is no such information on Shield tooltips. Was this changed to an accuracy penalty instead? Either the loading screen tip or the shield tooltips should be changed.
  23. It doesn't really bother me that there isn't much racism. Most fantasy games go with strong racism (for example Dragon Age), and to be honest it is getting pretty boring. I would be happy if race did actually mean more than it currently does though. The dialogue options for race are too few and with too little effect, it would have been nice to feel your race more throught gameplay too. Some, like the woodland Elves, have really nice passives which you keep in mind the whole game, others (like Humans), are too passive to be interesting. Godlike are the most disappointing imo. There isn't any special dialogue with the Godlike companion, only things that any race can say. The description of Death Godlike suggested that they don't have it easy, but in reality, no one seemed to mind. It's strange that the race description in character creation says one thing, and you go through the game experiencing something else.
  24. I wanted a thread for people to post tooltips which could use improving. I am on my 3rd playthrough now and I discover situations where things don't really work the way tooltips suggest. Even more situations where the tooltips are too vague. Oathsworn Buckler (Paladin only): This shield's tooltip says that it offers +5 to all Defenses and no more. It should absolutely say that it adds this to ALL party members, not just the wearer! It is also unclear if this is an aura with a range or it just applies to everyone. Maybe also mention that it stacks with other items that increase defenses. Kalakoth's Sunless Grasp: Should state that it's a melee range skill. Mirrored Image: This one is too vague. +20 deflection until the first him, around 60s duration. What happens after the first hit? How much deflection is lost? Does it actually end after a number of hits or will it still provide a modest deflection increase until the duration is over? Withdraw (priest): Should state that the target is unable to take any action during the duration. There were more examples, when I see them again I will post them.
  25. I voted all three. I really tried to enjoy that game, but it was awful. They tried to put in story to all the MMO-type quests. It worked for very few of them. The rest had a boring story (yo, go fetch that, will ya?) with low quality voice acting. I could have lived without VO or cutscenes for the filler quests, tbh. Actually, I could have lived without the filler quests. The gameplay isn't that great either. Ran into a few bugs, that I myself have reported weeks or even months before launch, the launch didn't go smoothly at all (well, what MMO launch goes smoothly?) and to be honest, it was absolutely not worth the wait and annoyances. The animations were cool enough and the PvP was quite fun, but in the end, I wasn't enough. Not even close. GW2 came out at around the same time and it was superior to SWTOR. I knew exactly what it would be since I played the beta, but I absolutely did not want to support a company that murdered KoToR 3. KoToR 2 was one of my favourite games, and SWTOR was just a sad attempt at making money. KoToR 1 was good enough, and I liked Bioware for it, same with Dragon Age Origins. Everything that came out of Bioware after made me dislike the company. DA 2, SWTOR, no thanks. The nail in the coffin for me was how they choose to take player feedback from the beta: completely ignore it. They made some really awful decisions, like buying a prototype engine for SWTOR and launching even though many people including myself said that the game is in no way ready for launch. Not even close.
