Not to mention, closing a D&D thread only to salvage the off topic deviation that got the thread closed in the first place?

My Review of Dungeons and Dragons Online
Alas, that's exactly the greatest problem a developer faces when working on a MMORPG. It's virtually impossible to allow the player to have a lasting impact in a multiplayer setting based on an open, persistent world. At present, most MMORPGs cannot allow any real interaction, and thus, they truly have no real gaming value if stripped of the multiplayer appeal. Folks who join those games with the pretense they can simply ignore the multiplayer aspect are going to inesorably fall into disappointment.

My Review of Dungeons and Dragons Online
Competition and/or team play is the lure of those games. The 'RPG' part refers to the basic gameplay mechanics of the genre, nothing more. That said, roleplaying in those games just seems puerile to me, like some sort of extended need to project your childhood fantasies in a grown up enviorment. In my time with WoW i was in a so called 'Roleplaying' guild, and whilst i enjoyed the casual and mature nature of the people i played with i could never bring myself to do it.

My Review of Dungeons and Dragons Online
If your picks over those cathegories were as bland as DDO i shudder to imagine what it is you actually played...

Actually, they are, by everybody who isn't white...

New studio: Bioware Austin
Aside the fact MMORPGs suck? Nothing i guess...

New studio: Bioware Austin
Maybe i need to explain myself better. People argue they don't like MMORPGs because of the fee. Companies justify the fee because of dedicated, persistent servers. Persistent servers is the 'massive' element of the genre. Guild Wars doesn't have any dedicated servers, but people praise it for the lack of fee compared to other MMORPGs. Can anybody tell me what's wrong with this picture?

Guild Wars does not offer a persistent world, which is where the 'massive' element of the genre comes into play. This is the reason GW is free, because it doesn't have persistent servers to maintain, which is how companies justify the fee in the first place (among other things). Guild Wars it's nothing but a party based, 3d version of diablo, and the non-combat areas are nothing but Battle.net with graphics.

Does anybody knows that Guild Wars is not a MMORPG? Just wondering...

New studio: Bioware Austin
What makes you think they aren't going to take resources and personel away from their current dev team to form the new one?

I need some Sci-Fi suggestions
Can anybody recommend some great sci-fi material, both in film and literature? When i was kid i read tons of sci-fi, most of it from borrowed books or from some cheap series of science fiction novels you could buy where magazines were sold. It's been a while since i read any of it, but now that i have a job, i was thinking about building a proper library, perhaps with a more discerning attitude as i no longer have the time (or patience) to squander on mediocre reading material. So far i acquired a few books by Asimov and Phillips **** (mostly collections of short stories), as well as the first volume of Dune, but short of buying more stuff by those authors, i have no idea where to go from there. As for films, i've seen pretty much almost all the 'sci-fi' stuff from the 80s ( Alien, Terminator, Tocal Recall), a lot of which are not even real science fiction and some of them fall short of being decent movies to begin with (Star Wars and derivates in particular).

MCA does the 'Codex
BTW, i'm perplexed about all the hate towards the codex displayed here. Aside for the lack of profanity and the more controlled nature of this forum, this place isn't really all that different.

MCA does the 'Codex
Nope, i mean an highly opinionated, very antagonistic interview, like the codex one. Some of the answers they indirectly got out of MCA were very interesting...

New Star Wars Movies
Being an hater of both, i'd like to contest that argument. I can say that in all fairness, i 'enjoyed' the originals a whole lot more then the prequels. Whatever went wrong with the first three films, it went even worst with the new ones...

New Star Wars Movies
No, i can't prove anything, but generally speaking, competent film-makers are usually known to demonstrate their 'competence' through out their career at least a few times. There's two movies in which i've seen Lucas demonstrate some level of compentence, and oddly enough, they were both produced by Coppola. Beyond that, he has demonstated nothing but complete ineptitude. I don't know you, but that seems a little more then strange to me...
-
New Star Wars Movies
And what makes you think the competent film making displayed there was really Lucas? Sometimes a movie comes through due production rather then direction, particularly when Francis Ford Coppola is involved...

MCA does the 'Codex
The subject of the questions wasn't new, the questions themselves are of a kind you never see in interviews with developers, MCA answering them being the whole point...
-
New Star Wars Movies
Yes, it's Star Wars, and it sucks, it always has. What's your point?
-
New Star Wars Movies
When was this, exactly?

MCA does the 'Codex
Say what you will about the Codex, but that interview is one of the reasons i'm happy they are around. When was the last time you read an interview that wasn't overly polite and didn't have the same old, boring questions? That said, i will not be joining their forum, ever...
