Don't risk Starforce unless you absolutely cannot live without the game. No telling if your computer will handle it fine (as some do), or screw up in all sorts of ways (as many do). That, and the official "removal tool" they released doesn't even remove everything or fix the problems in most cases. Besides, they are a company that denounces everyone that reports problems as eith 'crackers' and 'pirates', or idiots that just don't know what they are doing. Starforce should be kicked out of the industry soon enough as rootkit was, unless we're rather unlucky.

Theoretically, yes. In reality? Depends on if the weight of my guts outweigh the risks.

On a personal level, of course, something going against my morals and general ethis would qualify as a no-no. I don't know what I would do if it concerned the governance of a country, and if I ever was offered a job in one (heh, right) I wouldn't take it until I knew. Can I impose my own morals and ethics upon the arena of rulership?

Europa Barbarorum has finally released its Open Beta. It is a total conversion mod that shores up a lot of the problems with the original Rome - Total War (which I know at least some of you have). New building / unit system, inclusion of a governments system, new map, new factions, etc, etc. Definitely worth a try, especially if you got hacked off by the shallowness of the vanilla version. Meh. Now we will see how many care.

Show us your weird & wonderful presents!
Tigranes replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Way Off-Topic
Two of my friends were preparing presents for one of their dads. They had two items in particular: - A set of super-expensive chocolates, with a single one left in its wrapping inside the box, and the rest of the wrappings empty. - A box wrapped in over a dozen layers, resulting in an extremely large package. I have yet to hear of the nature of the reception. -
Fallout never had a brilliant combat system... of course, retarded friendlies shooting each other's nuts has somehow become endearing, not distasteful. Watching the career of Dogmeat is like watching that of Paris Hilton minus the casual sexing. Hm, I need to work on my metaphors.

Quite apart from all the other arguments... Volourn, why is JE a good role-playing game? I've played every Bioware RPG, and a few others, and there doesn't seem to be anything special. The dialogue options still hardly matter, the story is set in stone except for a single decision (exactly the same amount of nonlinearity as Star Wars: Jedi Academy, a FPS game), combat was fun but still ridiculously easy and even more arcadey, much less fun gathering items because of their scarcity, and no more memorable characters or graphical niceties than any other BIO game.

Not really. It'll take a little while for the seeds to pick up again, then you go again. The partial download is there until erased manually. That said, with some files when the initial "seeding rush" is over, they are so low-demand you will never get good seeds for them again. If you are getting a popular and/or recent file, then no problem.

AC... great graphics, fun action, and it was probably worth it just for the sake of seeing FF7 things on high-res. Of course, the story was about as good as an internet fanfiction IMO (rehash sephiroth, etc, etc). But meh, I don't think the point was to marvel at the story.

I wonder if they would still give it up after realising how cheap they are in Japan.

You cannot, you simply confirm its probability of success both practically and theoretically on a reasonable level. Just like most scientific theories.

Ignore Annoying Small Texts That Were Probably Not That Funny Anyway

Reveilled is right on a theoretical basis. Just because a game is rid of "adult" content does not mean that it is a "mature" game. Doing away with conventional terminology which meshes the two together... "adult" being all the risque sex, gore, whatever, "mature" being the level of gameplay is above that of a kiddy game. Whether this is true in practice is debatable. I, for one, have no idea. Is Mario as popular amongst 20+ gamers as Halo?

both kotors are B/C.

Meta: That is the point. For Necklace, Amulet exists (in english): so do numerous other counterparts. For Korean, for Ring, there exists NO word that can do this. Some archaic subtitute may be discovered, but that is equivalent to using 15th century English in a translation: there is no word that is known by even a significant minority that can convey enough sense of being both "ring" and being "magical" to qualify. And other examples must exist.

1/ It would not be used by many, thus defeating its raison d'etre. 2/ Where it is used, it will often be the medium of jokes or cynism, or plain idiocy. 3/ Any moderation of such a system would require cataclysmic amounts of mindnumbing dronework. There you go, nice and simple. I note that it also refutes all your points against meta's dissection.

meta: each word, indeed, any construction of a lingual nature carries with it both 'literal' and 'atmospheric' meanings inseparable from its mode of language and the cultural background. Technically trnslations are possible (although Alliance Francais has been know to make some seriously awkward translations of things like 'jeans' and 'rock&roll'), but end up untenable for daily use. Best example: Lord of the Rings. In contemporary english-speaking culture, the word "ring" has the capacity to both connote the 'mood' of jewelry, of luxury, but also on the other hand magic, power, fantasy and mysticism. In Korean, we have a word for "ring". Have for centuries. Problem is, our word solely and completely connotes the jewelry ring, so that Lord of the Rings in Korean sounds absurd. It would be like calling it Lord of the Necklaces (as opposed to, say, Amulets), or Lord of the Earrings.

That's when Microsoft and Sony catch on.

Thanks Hades, now I'm mildly surprised in a negative way.

I was in US for thanksgiving, and I was invited to a family of Georgian rednecks. The kid appears promising. Continue your corruption and we may look favourably on your recent dishonourable activities.

If anyone looked at the video, the actual gameplay looks just like a normal FPS, with Constantine-style Cross magic shooter things replacing guns, and the like. Spiritual Warfare games... much more dangerous.

Ah, public education.

Agreed with Kaftan. It's not all bad, but... well, lets see. Plot: It's about as good as Doom's. Character: Bad. There is nothing redeeming about anything here. Quests / Missions: Go kill a gigantic bee with its bee-spawn in a 20th-century-style park, collecting shiny orbs of power and having random people appraise you for your beeslaughter. Customisation: Mostly on trivial things like hairstyle. You don't feel a real sense of making your own character, but rather taking some mannequin and throwing on random things on it just for a short-lived giggle. Actually, Kaftan is generally right. The combat is really crap, too. Think Jade Empire dumbed down, with an extra dash of crap. (For the combat, I mean.)

All hail the wise Kaftan. (w00t)
