NWN1/NWN2 Top Down cam has always had the capability to look exactly like the IE isometric. There are just more options now. You could even set the camera at that angle/height then enable free cam (post patch 1.3), then use the arrow keys to pan the camera freely - so that it's exactly the same as IE. That's what I plan on doing, with occasional zoom-ins for purtiness (and steep elevations, etc).

But Pop, I play NWN2 in pseudo-isometric. Doesn't feel that different than IE view TBH. I think it was because the kind of things the player could interact was pretty limited in BG1. It wasn't as innovative with the game engine as some later games are. Usually it was either "NPC walks up to you" or "You see monster" or "You find rare item". There aren't magical portals ou can uncover, or elaborate magical traps, or whatever. The scripting wasn't as advanced; Ithink NWN2 mods could do a lot more in the BG style and make it feel less empty. Even so, BG was wonderful and still has a charm of its own, I still play it.

Volourn's Wowwy Journey With NWN2:Spoiler Edition

Volo, I agree with you for vanilla BG2. And that's probably what you were talking about, so we wins, game over, etc. Since I finished BG2 about +20 times, I had the opportunity to extensively try both Tactics and IB - the two best battle mods, afaik. Tactics mod was pretty good, but it felt a little neutered for some of its changes and generally, I was getting bored. IB is definitely more radical; some, like Torgal, I learned not to install. Improved Abazigal is pretty damn insane as well; I'm sure there's a key to beating him, but I never figured it out. Another is Improved Illasera. She goes invisible, then just does it every time you dispel it; she fires arrows that hit every time, even if you're concealed, and does it like 4 times a round, each of them with slow and other status effects. She has great DEX, blade barrier I think, and som eother crazy things that block spells. Her minions were pretty good too. Still, most of those battles rae pretty damn fun becuase each time you die you can modify your tactics, ands ometimes try pretty crazy things. edit: KOS was pretty damn easy. The second wave was pretty good though. But if theres a boss fight where there's only one enemy (first and third), I expect it to have some pretty neat things. It would have been awesome for the first KOS to have BG2 dragon Wing Buffet; imagine the KOS coming out of the portal, waving his arm then your party flying to the far corners of that circular room, knocking them out and fizzling ze spells. Some unique spells / abilities for the boss as well. It's not a real boss if all it does is have 500hp and sit there dishing out physical damage. Stupid and boring. Of course, I remember vanilla BG2's Irenicus tree fight. Totally roleplaying my solo Rogue, he noticed that Irenicus didnt even notice him before the guardians were killed; so cunningly he placed all his available traps right next to him, then disabled the guardians. Traps fire before Irenicus gets protections up, Irenicuse dies in 0.5 seconds. Even if you don't do that and go into the battle unprepared & unbuffed, Irenicus is pretty easy as long as you spread your praty out. -
I understand that quite a few criticised BG because each wilderness area, you'd often walk around (slowly, too) for 10 minutes to come across one encounter. Those encounters were golden though, and in true pnp style; and especially with graphics nowadays, which are just starting to be as good as the best of 2D (so far it has been inferior, IMO), we could really do with something like that. Oblivion and Gothic probably do it very similarly though. In fact, they DO use the BG model, just with a different representation. You're still walking along anywhere and everywhere on the world map and finding random things. I think mods in NWN2 can definitely do a BG-style world creation because of the World Map; I know I'll be oding that if I ever finish a mod.

Then that means nobody can 'understand it' better than anybody else, right?

Deraldin, it'll take a few days to be delivered I think. But yes I will. I got good feedback on the forums here while looking for a card, so it's only right. Anyway, with ze power attack, since it was moved here. In displays there is no problem even now, without the queue, because it flashes to show you that its' been enabled, then the float text tells you when exactly it turns on (i.e. end of round). Should be no problems. The only issue is when it is bugged and doesn't turn on even at the end of the round, or deactivates all the time. I hardly use power attack or defensive casting and they seem to work fine most of the time for me, see, so I have no problems whatsoever. I think it's more of a bugfix issue.

Woah. I'm replacing my Radeon 9600 with ATI x800XT soon, meaning I'd have a slightly superior system. Right now I get 8fps indoors with no shadows and no point lights, so that sounds great.

Actually, that just means I use every kind of spell available in my arsenal to defeat the enemy. You, for some random reason, refuse to use one type and therefore limit yourself, because breach spells are extremely useful. Again, though, they weren't really needed in vanilla because it was so easy you could just hit people with a club and they'd die eventually. But, Volo, I assume when the enemy fired a chain contingency with Protection from Magical Weapons, Pro. from Normal Weapons and Spell Mantle, you just sat there twiddling your thumbs until it wore out. PST had less than decent combat, but I could live through it. -
I hate it because I install all my games in C:\Games\Game Folders anyway, and it makes My Docs cluttered, but it's certainly better for casual users, who know that they aren't touching any files that could screw up the game program. Having 30 saves is pointless. Up to 5-10? Sure. I only have 2.

Ooh, purty. So that's what it looks like with lighting and shadows. Pidesco, you've got the golem?! I could never work out how to finish the guy. How many parts do you need to get? I think in my first walkthrough I only got one. In my second I've just rescued Shandra so I've seen the golem, didn't actually take him back so I assume he'll prop up in the stronghold. What happens when you hide GUI and zoom in; really purty. And finally, just for Volo:

What's wrong with put-on-queue solution? Furhtermore, right now you get the yellow glow when you click it (to say you clicked it), then the float words when the actual activation occurs. I don't think there's any problem with that stuff, the only problem is that for some people it doesn't turn on at the end of the round or deactivates randomly.

They should do it Dragon Ball Z style. *wind blows past them* *camera scrolls up from their feet to head, slowly* *zoom in on head* "You should not have come to this place." *Villain casts magic missile.* *wind blows past them* *camera scrolls up from their feet to head, slowly* *zoom in on head* "Bite me."

I would love to get 18fps at all times. Just got myself a Radeon X800XT, which should be very very good. For only about $150US.

BG2 was a mage battle-fest, and if you didn't use any debuff spells then you were a pretty crappy player. Granted, in vanilla BG2 you could still fight your way past with ze awesome loot you get and all, but with some of the harder and better mods out there, no way. You're telling me you just slashed and pierced every stoneskin down instead of casting Breach? ROFL TOFL. I still maintain that the latest IB (I think) Torgal battle was impossible in Chapter 2. Just impossible. He regenerates at about 5hp a second and hits about 4 times a round oding 20-30 damage and.. yeah. It was like fighting 3 Ravagers at once. -

Same experience with me. I took Khelgar, Elanee, Neeshka and Qara I think, and I was a wizard myself. As I said, the dragon AI just attacked Khelgar nearly the whole time, so he tanked, Elanee stood right there Healing and Regenerating and Stoneskinning, while Qara and I fired off the spells. The main difference I found compared to BG2 was that in BG2, Dragons could always make a "comeback" - either with a Heal spell (Silver Dragon) or by casting different buffs during the battle, requiring the battle to be set in multiple stages - sometimes yourself regrouping when the Dragon suddenly goes invisible and hides for a bit. With the red dragon I felt it was less epic because unless half your party gets killed, if you dispel the initial enchantments then set a rhythm going, then its just a matter of grinding till somebody wins. It would have been more fun and challenging if the Dragon saved some spells until halfway and cast them, especially buffs, so your spellcasters have to be protected. The black dragons gave me difficulties, but only because my party was Thief, Druid, 2 mages and Khelgar. Summons are really way too weak in this game and the multiple dragons just kept ripping my spellcasters down. -
Let's not do another Jorian Derail, shall we? Check your PM box. Now, has anyone noticed that in some cases you will havea a [Diplomacy] checkbox or whatnot, but you would always fail? It seems that way because the [success] / [Failure] boxes are not visible in the answer to these ones. For example, if you are with Moire and you try to bribe the guards in front of , then you fail, but there is no [success]/[Failure] box. I think this means that you will always fail because those guards are much too honourable, but can't be sure unitl i can use the toolset to check. If this is true, then I think it's great - sometimes you can't persuade people like that no matter your skill, and it 'baits' the users because after a while we get used to thinking "anything with a skill check in front = good".
-
By 'unique' I assume Maria meant making a new prestige class that can cast spells. Or maybe just ones with its own spell pool, so it really depends. Altohugh I don't see logically why you wouldn't be able to do that. I guess I'll know more when my toolset works, huh.

Volourn's Wowwy Journey With NWN2:Spoiler Edition
Tigranes replied to Volourn's topic in Computer and Console
Well, I was roleplaying, so I fully expected to make a deal with the dragon, then it pissed me off so I decided to fight with half spells and no prior preparation. All Qara could do was cast 6 chain lightinngs, so... broken items all over the place. Maybe the loot was crap, but its really depressing because you never get to find out if they WERE any good. I think the Dragon could have been harder if they made the AI better; i.e. make it randomly change targets eveyr once in a while, get spellcasters if they do +40 damage in one spell, or just go after someone that has low health. It seemed pretty content to just attack Khelgar all the time, even though I was casting heal and regen on him all the time. -

Wing buffet was good because it also killed your spells. Of course, the Red Dragon Lair in nwn2 is much smaller so that can hurt you. The stupidest thing that i really REALLY hate is that area of effect, and even Chain Lightning, hurts containers. Half the dragon loot was broken. I mean, what the hell is that?! Fireball and whatever I can understand, but chain lightning is supposed to jump from hostile to hostile. If it can avoid jumping to friendlies why can't it avoid jumping to boxes? Dunno how it works in pnp, but poopies. Volo, I found Firkraag ridiculously easy, so its just personal opinion. I don't think any of the dragons were really hard though, except for some of those super-modded BG2 dragons. They were insane. -
Volourn's Wowwy Journey With NWN2:Spoiler Edition
Tigranes replied to Volourn's topic in Computer and Console
The dragon is about as difficult as Firkraag in vanilla BG2. That is to say, you'll always die horribly the first time you see it, but after a bit it's not too hard to kill. Still, my current char will probably be a straight up Rogue + Shadow Amn, so that might screw me up a bit. Already having trouble fighting undead and I'm in Act I. -
Gifted, I get chaotic all the time. I managed to stay CG for the entire game last time, now I'm CN and I mi ght even become CE. I seem to remember that chaotic actions are nearly always sarcastic, wry, crazy ones. They are also rude or dismissive without being the outright "I KILL YOU" ones. I think if you intend to talk like a "normal shmoe", as in how normal people talk in real life, you're always going to be lawful (mainly because most of us *are* "lawful"). That said, I think I"ll stay CN because apparently if you can't bring yourself to kill babies and eat dead children, you're going to get Goodie points.

You can't simply unsummon it while you're in the tavern? Meanwhile, I'm at the Docks in my second playthrough. Went the 'evil' path this time, but Ah well, playing the 'not-so-Good' path really indicates how the OC, just like all the others, were built for a Good character. Or just a crazy meanie one that likes to kill everyone.

What the heck? Oblivion was fuggin' ugly. People were ugly, cities were generic and uninspiring, and environments were decent, but Gothic 3 did that way better with similar oomph. On the other hand, this gets me 7fps:

There isn't an option for forward & backwards pan, afaik.

Heh, I know what you mean. My game is hanging in now after just having done most of the quests in , and I still have the quest to "Destroy the Rebel Camp". Actually, I went adn visited it, then came back and liberated , so.. Is Nordmar and dsert any different in game play than the forest place, or is it still visit each city for some different quests and different ways to liberate?
