What IS like dungeon siege
Tigranes replied to greenpeas's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
The pack mule died. -
Codex is a forum which has long since become a meme of itself, then a meta-forum that is aware of and parodies its own mockery of its older self, then an ironic commentary on that meta-ness, and now is perpetually confused about what the hell it is supposed to be anymore. Ironically, it still remains the one place where half of all posts are stupid beyond imagination and the other half are good quality RPG discussion you won't get anywhere else. Also, their LPs are fantastic, better than anything I've seen.

Divine Divinity is totally awesome. Bought Alpha Centauri but that, and my 4th DS3 run, will have to wait. Completely lost in all the options and quests.

Merged with this thread. Let's take this opportunity to remember that this is meant to be a suggestions thread - no more Dragon Age 2, sales figures, etc., etc., yes? We already have 50,000 threads for that, no need to post the same thing in every one of them. Re: targeting - Weird thing is, some form of auto-targeting does exist on PC, and it seems to annoy some people, i.e. it's too 'sticky' for them. I don't see how you'd get anywhere in this system with no targeting help at all, but... it only ever seems to become a problem when you need to hit a specific target and you're locked on a target that's standing right next to it.

When buying from traders.....
Tigranes replied to Ginolard's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Yeah, look at the giant faces staring at you directly behind/above the items in question. This applies for every time you ever see any item - on the ground, picked up, in your menu, in stores. All items are also always ordered by Rings -> Amulets -> Anjali -> Lucas -> Reinhardt -> Katarina. -
PC Local Co-op with gamepads
Tigranes replied to Kirii's question in Dungeon Siege III: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Awesome, thanks for the update - I'm sure it'll help other people with similar setups. -
Yes. They are usually on by default. If not, check and adjust your Steam settings. If console... whatever you normally do with 'em.

He can.

I think forums are the best social media format we've come up with so far on the web, because unlike, say, facebook, you end up actually having discussions, and you can both talk about inane stuff or get into serious discussions. You also have greater freedom to bring in various custom formatting, etc. The character limit, the wall stream system, the huge focus on personal photos, etc., etc - who really wants to read a series of one-liners from people you know? It's not as rich as forum talk and it's certainly not as rich as real talk when you meet those people IRL. That doesn't mean all forums are like that, but at least the structure is there. Facebook/etc actively discourages the act of thinking before talking/writing. It turns all of us into those type of obnoxious people that always want to say something every time anyone says anything. Hyuk hyuk, yeah, that's right, I heard something about that somewhere. Forums do this, too, hence the people that can't resist posting in every single thread, but to a lesser extent.

Everyone shares loot, which is mostly character-specific anyway; saving doesn't 'freeze' anyone.

Delay Problem
Tigranes replied to karac67's question in Dungeon Siege III: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
A little bit of digging shows that what you probably have is a very old, integrated graphics chip - i.e. not a 'proper' dedicated graphics card but a cheaper solution. Unfortunately, it's really not going to be good enough for anything released in the last couple of years, unless you get lucky and pull through on the lowest settings. It's also far below the minimum specs listed for the product. Have no idea with AMD processors these days but you might want to check if that's up to scratch, as well. But unfortunately it just sounds like your computer is short, by far, of running the game. -
After a long period of meh I'm finally sort-of using it... Facebook as a company is a sort of "we don't give a **** about you or your privacy or anything like that, put up with it" type, but really, at a personal level, I don't think social media is a particularyl important thing in our lives so I'm not too fussed. Will be waiting to see where Google+ takes the industry, though.

Delay Problem
Tigranes replied to karac67's question in Dungeon Siege III: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Diablo 2 is a very, very, very, very old game, so it's hard to say. Can you give the specs on your computer? Do you have the latest graphics drivers? -
It's kind of funny how we complain "we're being treated like idiots, stop handholding!", and then... we're not even smart enough, collectively, to figure out you can turn those things off. I don't think it matters so much in a linear hack and slash like DS3, where you don't explore so much anyway.

...because (a) My Steam says 44 hours, whereas the sum of my savegames say 20-25; (b) I play for 3 hours and then the save I make before I quit is less than an hour? It's not even like it's 5 or 10% off, where you'd attribute it to player confusion. There's no 'believe' here, it's quite obviously wrong for some people at least.

Is the price tag appropriate?
Tigranes replied to metamag's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
A good episode is better than a mediocre journey, for me. I didn't enjoy DS1 at all so it wouldn't have mattered if it gave me 50 planets and continents. DS3 has no fat - from start to finish, you're never going through dull filler or a dip in quality. Obviously, if you didn't find DS3 fun then that's a different story, but isn't that the whole point? If you have a lot of fun and you spend a reasonable amount of time on it, there's your 'money's worth'. Get too far into trying to define what's long enough and how many granules of particular types of content, and it just leads to everyone harping on about what they think is Totally Awesome. Of course, as I've said elsewhere, I think DS3 would have benefited from a couple more minor areas and quests to flesh things out. -
Let's stay on topic, no point getting into yet another mudfight about DA2.

OK, looking around the oaf files: global\ai\attack_scaling.xml My guess is that this has something to do with either the difficulties, levels, or something, but can't figure it out. You have 3 sets of AttackScale values - MinValue, MaxValue and TimeScale - e.g. 1-5 value = 1.2 timescale. global\ai_profiles\ai_profiles.xml Appears to control the AI behaviour for every enemy time - e.g. the archon_jackal_30's characteristic behaviour comes from its rush_attack package, it seems. There also seem to be priorities on target selection such as AttackingMe/Leader/Ally, etc. Also includes bosses like Rajani and companions (including 'companion_mirror', probably Reinhardt's mirror form). global\camera\top_down_camera.xml unfortunately, the only real value of note is 'mp_high_camera', which is set as 'true' in all of them. I've just tried setting them all as false, but... maybe I need to try co-op with someone? global\class_templates\level_up_table.xml Contains the number of ability, proficiency and talent points you get per level - an easy way to cheat/debug characters. global\console_scripts\... There seem to be some interesting console scripts, though I don't know how you'd fire them, in-game or otherwise. You can turn your characters into a certain level with equipment, make them a 'bad_ass' (literally), or, most interestingly, there seems to be a solo script that removes all the companions. global\game_modes\survival.xml Appears to indicate code for an Arena mode, featuring various Lescanzi, Skeleton and Vodyanoi enemies, but not much else. global\movement_profiles\movement_profiles.xml Can edit everything's run/sprint/walk/strafe speeds, etc. I've just tried increasing everything's run/sprint speeds by 2 and combat pace gets a lot more hectic - everything feels like it's running a bit harder. Will keep fiddling. Trying to currently work out how the Dapper Old Gent battle uses a different, wider zoom camera - it's not tied to the cell itself, which has a DefaultZoom value of 1 like everywhere else (changing it does nothing). Perhaps scripted to the actual battle event.

what the EF! Huge Bug!
Tigranes replied to leadfox's question in Dungeon Siege III: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
There should be an autosave just before you fight the chieftain? Have you defeated the chieftain a nd resolved the situation before trying to leave the area? -
Is the price tag appropriate?
Tigranes replied to metamag's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Steam is always expensive except when it has one of its sales. It's never a good place to buy. -
I doubt most people would get 25, but yeah, the in-game timer is completely wrong.
-
OK, Reinhardt is officially too good. By endgame I had over 300 will, hitting nearly 400 ability DPS, and effectively beat the first two Jeyne Kassynder battles within 5 minutes. I think I used about three GoAs and teleports, total. If I minmaxed a lot more I could make him even stronger. Going to try and fiddle around in the files to see if I can soup up the difficulty.

Degradation via consolification
Tigranes replied to metamag's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Considering what a huge difference will, agility, doom, stagger and stamina can make, no. The problem is that some stats aren't as cost efficient and can be too easily ignored - primarily armour and block. -
Sorry, I'm just a mod, so don't know what they're up to over in Obsidian - the big patch is still coming, though. You don't miss anything by just reading the text narration for the opening cutscene though. Surely that by itself won't stop you from enjoying the game, for now? (Of course, it should still be fixed when it can.)
