  1. Really? So if you manage to get into the arena, everything else despawns? Okay. As long as the rest of PotD presents something resembling a fair challenge once you get decent gear, I suppose I could give it another fair shot. Now it's just a matter of figuring out how to sneak my whole party down there without fighting anything, if that's even possible. Because even the freaking boars and wurms are mauling me. Maybe if I use the ladder instead of going down the stairs... As far as Gorecci Street, as I said, dealing with Ilari peacefully makes sense for my character anyway. The quest giver asks for you to negotiate with him because he's not inclined to cause trouble and she can deal with him later. And bam presto, I've made it out of the tutorial island without fighting more than I had to. They despawn when you complete the digsite Ruin interior (Arena Sub-level) and find Oderisi. Progress is automated that way. Of course it's totally dumb. I think they shouldn't despawn and they should fix this so you need to save the people in the cage no matter what you do if you want Aloth. Puzzle on PotD? Yes. I still live the dream I was promised in developers commentary to the starting area of PoE .. "beloved Infinity Engine games" where Baldur's Gate 2 is possibly the most beloved one. An important part of BG2 was solving puzzles or battles.
  2. Honestly, and in my opinion, a player who cannot find solution to the Digsite puzzle on PotD should probably play on lower difficulty despite I agree that it's not (though ought to be) representative encounter for PotD difficulty. This encounter requires from player more than just walking in and using abilities. Encounters not requiring from player to put in extra effort - be it be using terrain, destructible environment or specific consumables or synergies- beyond using abilities in more or less random order with more or less random timing and auto-attacking are in my mind badly designed encounters. /rant sorry about that As for the difference between Veteran and PotD I would not know.
  3. Of course there's a difference, but it's insignificant - without checking their stats or the logs you wouldn't be able to say who has the boon. It's like when you go to the grocery and buy something labeled "bio" - you pay more, you can't tell the difference, but you hope it will make a difference in the long run... If you don't understand the math, don't pretend to. I am sorry but .. telling Keylon to understand math .. lol very amusing. On topic, for the similar reasons as others. The bonuses make the beginning of the game faster to get through and since I constantly restart with different setups, I've seen all there is to see there around 40 times already.
  4. My thoughts, it has always been regarded as one of the worst kits in-game so I was pretty confused :D It was, until multi with Rogue and Use Any Item HLA was introduced.
  5. My bold. I feel exactly the same way and I have basically two options: Create another fighter/assassin nuker I will probably get bored with sooner or later or just accept the game design and roll a character I want to play and struggle. So I struggle and when I get stuck because I have not build fighter/assassin nuker I rage quit So yeah, if characters would be powerful enough, I would not care about how powerful consumables are.
  6. This implies that you play the game solo because you find it too easy otherwise. This implies that you want to play the game solo, but rely on consumables as crutches to get through certain encounters, and if they were to be removed/nerfed you would no longer be able to play the game the way you want - solo. Care to clear this up for me? Sure. It was late and I was not careful with my words. The difficulty is not the only reason I play solo. Admittedly, if it was not possible to solo the game, which I think is very unlikely to happen given history of the genre, I would be willing to do something like Lone Wolf from DoS, that is to play in duo. Not only the game is, almost necessarily I would say, too easy in full party for devoted players, but it really bothers me to micro-manage 4 other characters and I do not care for playing with bots handled by AI. I mean, being constantly healed by a bot, for example, diminishes the enjoyment for me in perhaps similar fashion current state consumables, which I do not advocate, for others.
  7. How else? The debate about game mechanics is a philosophical debate since there is no truth to be found. Once philosophy is settled, the rest are just (technical) details. Personally, I do not care for details, I care about concepts. In similar fashion, the debate about taxing, for example, is a political debate. There is also no truth to be found, there is no such a thing as "pure" economics there is only political-economics. If taxing was subject to science, if "ideal" tax rates could be decided by scientific models, there would be no need for politics, open society and debate. There is no such a thing as "ideal" tax rate as there is no such a thing as "ideal" game balance. This said, I am lead to believe that the developers have their philosophy settled, so in this sense we are not making any progress here.
  8. i don't see any 1.1 potd ranged dps sorry.. most of them are tank/melee/solo potd It's because the game mechanics, in my opinion, favor melee and allow martial classes, be it through items or consumable, to be-like casters.
  9. If its counter-able, I fail to see how can it be called cheap. They were bigger you were smaller, you lost and were probably salty. I understand the historic definitions of "great fighters" about as you do. As far as OP goes, I commented on the notion presented by her/him already. I cant take anything of it even remotely seriously simply because I see little intellectual integrity in claims and actions presented by her/him. I am not sure you actually read what I posted but: 1. I have never said I want to fly anywhere, solo. I play solo exactly because in a group it's too easy for me and will be too easy for me regardless of any changes the developers will realistically make. 2. You have no evidence for the claim that PotD is geared towards the people who do care about a TCS achievement, or recognition, or build creation. What does it mean "its geared" btw? 3. Asking me to play on lower difficulty is about as valid as asking you not to use scrolls with 20 Arcana. You can, of course, play an artificer and still feel challenged with or without changes to consumables. That is unless 1 Arcana and scroll of Minoletta's Minor Missles one-shots the last boss.
  10. If you were fighting for your lives, the taller students using "cheese" would probably be seen as great fighters. When Alexander the Great used phalanx against Persians, they probably went like .. cheese! This debate is for me an academic one. It's, of course, ridiculous that the mechanics in question made it to the release of the game while the lead designer talks at conferences about game design, balance, and proper tuning. I do not doubt that they are powerful, so powerful that any build can use them to "beat" the game. I am doubting, if it's not clear already, the notion that they prevent players from playing the game the way they want. The only thing I care about, because I use consumables, just like Empower, when there is no other way to beat an encounter, is that I will be able to continue to play the game the way I want - solo. I do not care about any TCS achievement, recognition among peers (well..), how others play the game. I am selfish, I guess.
  11. I doubt very much that most people would say that simply because to my knowledge "cheese" is not used outside of gaming: https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/21867/origins-of-the-gaming-term-cheese-strategy, which is interesting to me by itself. Why gaming, why not I dunno .. football? Also, let's note that the etymology points to human-against-human competition, which brings me to the scrub: http://www.sirlin.net/ptw-book/introducingthe-scrub
  12. Hmm, how odd. Still, you'd think: if a competition is only in your mind, should be easy to change the rules. I'd think, but maybe Homo Sapiens is not as sapiens as we like to be. After all Homo Erectus was our ancestor. Oh, that was a slip! So I am beginning to think that it is perhaps not easy indeed to change the rules in our heads, which is hard for me to accept, but perhaps its the reality and insisting on the rational course of action is unrealistic.
  13. Compared to any build .. You see, Loren Tyr, some people compete even in single player games. Either they compete against others in virtual achievements or they compete in imaginary competition existing only in their mind.
  14. Perhaps your desire. How irrational such notion is, is pointless to reiterate I guess. So far you have posted one build, Devoted/Nalpazca ..did not bother with positioning, used both scrolls and drugs, called it "solo" while it was clearly not, and keep repeating "if you know how to build". The readers will make up their own minds about your statements and so do I.
  15. How minuscule? I am not the one claiming that X DEX/MIG is better than Y DEX/MIG without backing it up with numbers. For 2H, under Frezy Bloodlust, DoC BP and Streetfighter I am getting 0.3 sec difference between 6 DEX and 12 DEX. So which minuscule is more minuscule? Either way, I still believe its inconsequential and player could not tell the difference during gameplay.
  16. Using the Attack Speed Calculator from the pinned thread tells me that the difference between 6 DEX and 12 DEX, for example, under Frenzy, Bloodlust, Two-Weapons Style, DoC BP and Streefighter bonus is around 0.4 sec or around 10% which I would call inconsequential.
  17. I do not have any math on it, but here: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/102539-dual-wield-vs-any-other-melee-style/ was stated by MaxQuest: But the general rule is: - the more damage bonuses you have, the less relative gain you get from Two-Handed Style talent. - the more speed bonuses you have, the less relative gain you get from Two-Weapon Fighting Style talent. Marauder gets quite a few damage bonuses but also speed bonuses. That is why I tired low DEX and stuck to DW. Tried before 2h till level 15 and it was awesome too. Especially with Morning Star (https://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Saru-Sichr ) and Modal lowering Fortitude, and the ability of Barbarian to target Fortitude if Deflection higher. In short, I do not know.
  18. Honestly, in a party attribute distribution for Marauder, a very potent multiclass, is pretty much inconsequential in a sense that whatever distribution, perhaps except low PER, one will come up with the difference would translate to something like 20 sec longer fights or injury here and there. While I do think I understand the desire to have a decent build despite little difference gameplay-wise, min-maxing has consequences under extreme conditions. If you want to min-max, dump RES and DEX, max MIG, PER and INT. I have those stats on the Mara in the vid I posted in your thread and just now replayed the same part with No Subclass Wizard level 11 and had to empower to refresh my spells.
  19. In your opinion. And your opinion is worth you know what? The same as my opinion. The difference between us is that my opinion does not impact your game.
  20. Depends on other factors like your party and playstyle. In my opinion, RES does nothing for Marauder as it wants to be Bloodied asap and as long as possible. MIG in a party with heals is not a priority because of bonuses to damage from sneak attack, passives, etc. INT is good, especially under certain circumstances, but not essential in other. What you posted will work just fine. edit: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/101905-berserkerstreetfighter-build-galawains-hunter-feedback-appreciated/ you got it here or?
  21. Thanks, I really like casters but found martial classes in general and multi in particular more powerful for my needs. It's not that I dislike gear, I do, just do not like certain kind of gear. Freezing Pillar is Transmutation, right? Damn it .. I do not like Chill Fog
