This is by far the most important issue to me. BG SCS is an example of very intelligent enemy AI that not only creates interesting and challenging gameplay but also adds to immersion because enemies that are making smart decisions/adjustments kind of feel real. I really hope they come through with some good AI this time around.

Here's mine for +50% exp req if using IE mod 4.10 (windows): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32777109/Games/Pillars%20of%20Eternity/Assembly-CSharp.dll Awesome, I'll have to try that one. Although IE mod has been updated since then so it may not work. Y'know, if +50% feels right (which it sounds like it would)... you might talk to bman about just putting that into IE mod as another checkbox toggle. That way it'll automatically stay updated with the mod. Yeah, a toggle for that in IE mod would be ideal. Maybe even a slider between 0 - 100 if he's able to do it. I would love something like this.

This is awesome. I was waiting for 1.5 before I gave PoE another go but now I am tempted to return early. I'm doing a first play through of IWD though and loving it so probably not :D Let us know how the rest goes

EI Mod and my opinions
NoQuitt replied to Mdalton31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well this is exciting news! Good work and thank you. -
Oh of course. At least until 1.05 drops and they (hopefully) reduce the XP gains from those massively. It'd be a shame to not be able to do them at all, as it sounds like they're fairly challenging pieces of content. You can do the bounties without gaining the exp. Make sure you don't pick up the bounty's head after killing them as this gives exp. Turning the bounty in gives a lot more exp as well. So you can do the fights and pick up the unique item they drop and as long as you don't pick up the bounty's head you won't be getting experience out of it. I only did a couple of them so I don't know if you need to turn them in to unlock more. I also don't know if they drop a unique item every time. Edit: You can only do the first 4 this way.

So clever. Much sarcasm. Really though... You were in the Beta, no? You know what dramatic improvements they've made. This kind of exaggerated negativity just comes off as petulant at this point. I agree with his point though. I would advise OP to play BG1/2 and then pick up PoE when it's a bit more polished. PoE is a fantastic game, and I feel OP would be better off doing a play through later on when there aren't so many issues. I am considering dusting off my copy of BG2 and coming back to PoE after patch 1.05 so I can have a more enjoyable experience.

Hard mode is too easy.

PotD is painfully hard, but only at the beginning. Once you reach Defiance Bay, the difficulty drops big time. Just don't leave Defiance Bay early like a big boy and squad wipe like I did:D edit: unless you are good at this game. I am not. -
Console commands not working
NoQuitt posted a question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
I cannot enter a console command. I can open up the console with ~ and type whatever I want in there, but after pressing enter again to input the command nothing happens. I type "iroll20s" and hit Enter... nothing... iroll20s is still there. It's as if the Enter key stops working when the console is up. I have searched everywhere to see if someone had a similar issue - nothing. I watched a Youtube video of someone inputting the command to see if I am doing something wrong... nope. Is it not the Enter key that inputs the command? My silent rage increases with each failed attempt. I feel like there is a very high chance I am missing something very obvious. All I want to do is change my companions' level1 abilities (Bears Fortitude Durance plz....) Someone shed some light please. I will add that when I am typing in the command my hotkeys are still functioning. So when I type 2 in iroll20s it switches to my #2 character on the toolbar. I am pretty sure it has something to do with this because it wasn't happening to the person in the youtube video. -

Wow this is awesome... I had no idea :D Do you get the item without having to turn in the bounty? -

I feel exactly the same way I actually feel a little guilty when gaining side quest exp! I find that amusing :D Since I am trying to gauge what I should and shouldn't be doing in order to keep a challenging experience for myself, this post has been very helpful. My party just became level 6 in Act2 in PotD/ToI - have only done a couple of the Act2 side quests so far. Would you suggest sticking to the main path from here on out in order to maintain a good challenge? Well if you're doing Trial of Iron that's a tough one. Have you finished the game before? I wiped 40+ times on the last battle at level 9 and didn't get close, beyond that, I died a few times in Act 2 in Cliaban Rilag (Spores) and a few times on Burial Isle at level 8. Bet you'd have a great time in Od Nua at lvl 6. Haven't finished the game before so I don't know what to expect. I am not doing Bounties or Tasks because it seems this is where much of the bloated exp is coming from. I was wondering if I should take it further by limiting Quests. I am hoping I can still do the standard side quests (no tasks/bounties) and still maintain a challenging experience. I really wanted to do the bounties though. Challenging encounters with unique items as a reward is nice (I love reading the lore on these items!). I don't mind it too much though, because it's just more content for me on another play through whenever the exp gets tuned or modded. -

Nice post and congratulations on your victory! I look forward to reading the rest of your feedback. I am considering a similar challenge (PotD/ToI first play through) and was wondering how you felt reaching the level cap so early affected the difficulty of encounters for you for the rest of the game? Did it trivialize combat or did combat remain challenging due to it being on PotD/ToI?
-
2 would be the easiest solution. Couldn't someone just unpack the asset files, find a leveling table, and change the numbers? I would love it if someone modded the exp in such a way that even after doing the vast majority of the content, I am still not reaching the level cap until towards the end game. This would make me a very happy man

Looking for a bit of advice from you guys so I don't fall into the over-leveled trap. I'm doing my first play through so I don't really have an idea of how much is too much I'm playing on hard mode Trial of Iron. I'm running a fully hired party to there won't be any exp from companion quests. I want to do as much content as I can without trivializing things. Since I won't be doing any of the companion quests, will I be ok doing everything else? Would doing all the bounties still get me over leveled? Thanks! -
The meaningful alternative is to reset the dungeon if player retreats (for example, Souls games) and teach them how to play better through this. Or make the inhabitants organize superior defense next time he returns (mostly seen this on pen and paper games, unfortunately). Or make the quest fail, because villains left the dungeon and took the important loot with them / killed the virgin / nuked the village with a ritual meteor spell. Or locking the party in the dungeon and forcing them to deal with it using the limited resources they have + whatever they can scavenge from the location (like old school Dungeon Master games, where you have to eat and drink, which means scavenging by advancing in the dungeon and killing monsters for food). Consequences that actually matter. I agree completely. Something needs to be in place to enforce the whole limited per rest spell use/health design. Something needs to give meaning to the choices I make in battle. If I have to return to town from a dungeon for more rests because I failed in managing my spells/rests then there should be consequences.
