Summons. Drop all the summons you can and let Aloth fire away with Spells. Who cares if your summons are hit as well. They are just blockers. Pick up / steal the item in the Valian Embassy that summons shades. Buy the Animat horn in Gilded Vale, grab the beetle figurine near the acting troupe in Copperlane, etc...

It seems to me Self buffing is not what defines a Cipher. The change to do so would only heighten their power. Definitely not necessary. Their current state of power is already at a Rockstar level. Every time I include a Cipher in my party I get bored as they glide through the game with ease. Now a Difficulty option for Soloing only powers to be enabled would be cool, kind of like the tougher content they added with the WM expansions, but no way that happens this late in the game. That is a futile exercise in wishful thinking.

I have soloed a Riposte Rogue on Hard. Outside of boss fights it was a breeze without food or potions for the most part. I dual wielded a few fights but found without potions that up survivability I would get cut up pretty bad. I liked the extra protection of a bash shield. I prefer Fire lashes. On everything. I also like the Jolting Touch Stilletto. It can be abused.

Does it actually state you are on beta version in game on the main screen? Or will it show only the last released patch?I haven't beta'd in awhile....

Well I didn't mean it will be fragile forever, but at the very start, I personally found him to be quite squishy. I also don't like a classic sword 'n board, it's too.... common... It's true that chant don't require dex, but attacks do... I don't want to only chant and do nothing else... Reent, would that mean that I'd be better off with another character? I noticed on another playthrough that Kana had the same problem... not being able to reach the 3rd chant, and thus no invocations, but I thought it was just a case.... Any early game class in Brigadine Armor which is purchasable in Gilded Vale is not squishy. Add any 1 handed with shield and he can tank. Or add dual/2hander and you can dish. Just pick your chants to accommodate play style of choice. I have soloed with a Dual Battle Axe Borreal Chanter. Turned him into a berserker. Tons of fun. Especially when you start summoning Ogres and Drakes to join in.

Chanter is definitely NOT fragile. Avg health endurance and decent deflection make him a possible frontliner. His abilities (chants) don't require speed aka Dex. So heavier armor is ok to wear. Sword and board will do him fine. He is not a melee beast but can be decent with dps. Check some of the Chanter builds in this forum. Boeroer's Drake's Ambassador is POTENT....

Moon Godlike healing gives you extra staying power. Sword wielding Priest of Magran with shield will make you less squishy. Early game sword with Con bonus will help. Or Flail wielding Priest of Eothas with shield. Early game Flail with Endurance siphon will help with staying power. I prefer Might and Int on my Priest but it depends if you are soloing? What's your plan? Party or Solo?

In Gilded Vale there is a backer NPC wearing plate just east of the temple of Eothas ruins. Plus many suits are worn by Raedric's Berathian lackeys within his Hold. Or wait until you can buy Crucible Knight Armor in Def Bay. There are tons of mid range armors that are useful. Eder's armor is what I slap on my Barb and Rogue melee builds in the early game. Aloth's Leather Armor is great for any spellcaster that needs AoE. Blaid Gholan hide Armor is easy enough to acquire in Def Bay as is Pike's Pride which is a Scale Mail. I prefer mid range armor on my Monks as I want them to have some DR but I also want them to accumulate wounds to power up their class abilities/talents.

Ok. I just dug up a post about bow comparison. Persistance is best DPS, hands down. I was thinking of Borresaine for the stun effect which makes it hard to compare against DPS. One can shoot more when standing still as you don't need to run when your enemy is stunned. Of course that theory only works when all enemies are immobile. Both are easily obtained early on. Maybe I'll use both and see which gives me a playstyle I prefer. Thanks guys.
