I haven't seen Interstellar, but you criticize it for "characters, who are supposed to be scientists, often do not act and think like scientists at all" and then praise Prometheus? Did we watch the same Prometheus?

Cis is cisgender, which refers to "identifying with the gender you were born as". It's a fairly useful word to contrast with other-gendered in discussions about that. Not sure how or why it became a slur, however. Anyway, between the backlisting of female developers who support GG and the activist campaign to convince the World Wildlife Fund not to accept money from a GG charity drive, I think it's become utterly obvious that these people care nothing about making the world a better, more inclusive place. When supporting GG for me was a neccesary evil at first, it's now become abundantly clear that GG is a force for good and those opposing it are the reactionary people trying to protect their privelege from their ivory towers.

Gotham started out really bad but I've quite warmed up to it. And it was nice to see Alfred kick butts with his gruff voice.

Fascinating. I have noticed some of the prevailing feminist attitudes are based on an idea that women are weak. Seems counterproductive to me, but who am I to judge, I have no idea what it's like to be a woman.

Stop harshing my buzz and let me fanboy in peace! I know the hybrid dinosaur idea is silly and riding with domesticated raptors is a ridiculous concept but but but Jurassic Park!

Speaking as someone whose first threater experience was Jurassic Park and is a franchise fanboy: *pees pants a little*

Iga is the name that goes with that lady. Weird name, very attractive lady.

Neat, Michelle McLaren a woman who directed several episodes of The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones signed on to direct Wonder Woman.

The difference is that this guy is actually a somebody in the field of Game Development. Tait elicited mostly responses of "is this guy sick? he seems he needs help" but when Adams does it, it actually means something and the outrage is all the stronger. Also, I'll just leave this here, from TechRaptor: Who are the harassers? EDIT: Also, neat TechRaptor Article on harassment and how #GamerGate can affect the civil liberties of us al: http://techraptor.net/content/gamergate-can-affect-civil-liberties-us-expert-view-online-harassment. EDIT EDIT: Also, Xbro Interview from NicheGamer that I missed while I was moving, I'm sure you guys posted it but I find several excerpts prominent: Who was it that said most game devs are against GG?

I find it hilarious how much of IGDA Founder Ernest W. Adams' anti-GamerGate posts comparing them to the NSDAP, promoting blacklisting and warning devs not to support GamerGate because it could harm their career are being passed around to give them renewed strength and vigor through outrage. I've met the man and his tophat in person and I know he's not a complete idiot, so he has to be aware that he's doing this. It's almost unthinkable that he's not a plant that supports GamerGate. Either way, I've used some of his statements to convince anti-GG people to change their side already. He is literally the biggest help GamerGate has had since Sam Biddle.

Thanks. We needed a win. Hell, even the Nazis are responsible for technological achievements. I guess GamerGate can't even be rated higher than them? Lol at the implication that Gamasutra is responsible for blowing the whistle on Gawker media's racketeering because they nagged about YouTube videos.

I'll second that question, especially because of how much I've seen it used in the GamerGate debate now. Geeze, you have no internet for a few days and suddenly there's entirely new iconography.

An article somewhat related to #GamerGate and culture criticism: http://www.popmatters.com/column/180697-the-new-puritanism-or-some-troubling-tendencies-in-video-game-critic/ Among other things, it discusses the role of critics and whether or not offensive art has a place in society and whether or not, in fact, art has to be inherently offensive and it's censorship may (it doesn't make that call, just theorizes) in fact hold video games back. Also, the sparse (3 so far) comment section is also good, which is a rare.

Yes! My stove is finally hooked up to a gasline and I can finally stop living off microwave dinners and take-out.

That's an interesting observation, its always good to take a break to get a different perspective. But IMO what is interesting is the change that GG has brought to several discussions. People on these forums that typically wouldn't be as vociferous in there view on numerous topics are now very active in that thread and that now permeates to other discussions. So for example you are almost constantly reminded how " corrupt and flawed the gaming industry is " and " how there is this real conspiracy on the gaming industry ", of course neither of these points are true but people really have convinced themselves its real. For me its much of the same, the same people that are generally dismissive of SJ issues are still dismissive. They just have a more accepted platform to be more vocal about it, but you can still get interesting perspectives about other topics if you ask questions. So the debate for me is still stimulating But my advice is try not to spend too much time on the GG thread, that way you won't become as concerned about the state of debate on the forums No offense, but I think you are falsely conflating dismissing SJ issues with dismissing you. There's some dismissing of SJ issues going on but still now that's a minority, but there is a very clear trend that once you post about it people are much more prone to rant against it. As for GG, it's brought a sphere of distrust over most of the gaming communities I read or participate in and pretty much the entire industry. Hell, I've answered e-mails about it as a community manager for a tiny indie mobile game dev.

It's sad to see that a man that I respected in the past and have actually conversed with in person goes out of his way to support McCarthy type blacklisting using a block tool that picks who you follow in Twitter as a barometer. Ernest Adams is a toxic, malicious censor and I'm going to lobby to make sure my university no longer hosts his lectures. Regardless though, I remember saying blacklisting was going on and was going to get much bigger like five threads ago but got dismissed as a conspiracy nut despite being part of the gaming industry. At least I don't have to deal with that anymore. Thankfully IGDA got their buns kicked over it because if the goddamn International Game Developer Association starts blacklisting willy nilly anyone with or who listens to a "deviant point of view" you can kiss creative game development goodbye.

I'm not talking about the forced penetration parts, I didn't even mention that. I'm talking about at what level of inebriation does it become nonconsensual when someone says yes, when does a badly timed kiss become "forced kissing", etc. You said yourself some parts could use a more detailed breakdown. Your response to my concerns about forced kissing was to say I implied a question about forced penetration was leading. It's either misreading or misrepresentation.
-
Because I specifically meant the clearest definition on the list was certainly leading and poorly defined when I said "probably" and "a lot". Alum, I like you but respectfully, your debating style can be very frustrating because you very often seem to go out of your way to misrepresent whoever you are talking to as something a lot worse. It's not quite a strawman, but you're definitely putting some straw padding on me.
-
Page 13 has a detailed breakdown: 6.6% experienced complete forced penetration, 2.5% attempted forced penetration, 3.4% completed alcohol/drug-facilitated penetration; 9.8% was pressured in nonphysical ways (abusing influence/authority, threats of ending a relationship - this probably should've had a more detailed breakdown), 6.4% experienced unwanted sexual contact (fondling, forced kissing, grabbing body parts). The fact that this was a survey probably means questions were leading or misinterpreted and a lot of them can be defined differently. How about forced kissing, here's a rather embarrassing story: I struck out with this girl, we were having fun, a bit buzzed, and I thought was into me and I kissed her, only for her to pull away and tell me she wasn't into me that way. I explained I misread her reactions and apologized. She's now a friend of mine. Since she didn't give me obvious consent and I kissed her, does that mean I sexually assaulted her?
