  1. Who put you on moderated status last time? why aren't they here to do it again?
  2. Is that not a futile exercise? I think those who offensively bait religion (in this case Islam) would be predisposed to that behaviour in order to fulfill their agenda. For example, there are Hindus and Sikhs who are quick to disparage Muslims because of oppression under the Moghuls. There are Jews that are quick to disparage Muslims due to what is happening today in the Middle East. There are women
  3. Erm... you are of course talking about sharing legal and uncopyrighted material, right?
  4. Supreme Power, Marvel version of Justice League, the characters have been around from before but this MAX version is edgy and gritty. I liked the take on Superman or Hyperion's childhood... the puppy incident was funny.
  5. Syriana - 6.5/10 The message is heavy handed, a lot of the film is based on some stupid, unlikely yet not impossible premises. The oil barons are 2D caricatures. The whole film smacks of Clooney and Co. being preachy (not surprising since its marketed that way). Having said that it does hold your attention and there are some good performances. History of Violence - 7.5/10 Based on a graphic novel, not for all tastes. Its fun to watch but there isn't really much to think about, the film runs pretty short (1h27m isn't long compared to today's standard). I guess more time could have been spent trying to build some kind of connection between audience and protagonist. Its a fun romp overall but is overshadowed by that other violent graphic novel turned film..
  6. wtf is gangster rap? as in for those that have use the term what do they understand by it?
  7. It was more than an alt it was supposed to be a distinct personality but in time it reverted to its root.
  8. The edition I am trying to read has a foreword that criticises the writing style, describing it as "words being shouted onto a page". Two thirds of the way through I have to agree. I've reached a point where I cannot read any further.
  9. Have you finished it? How are you finding it?
  10. Was that the case? I thought they incited the violence becuase they were offended. EDIT: Ok i've lost the plot regarding this thread are we talkiing about freedom of speech on general or are we really talking about the cartoons? The UK government recently failed to pass a law banning incitement to religious hatred, this is important in the context of freedom of speech and I was wondering what people's thoughts are? This is an interesting take on events : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4685886.stm
  11. Why did you bump it then? Secretly you love it.
  12. Damn! I hadn't realised happy slapping had become so widespread. Its snuff video for the masses. As for the arab lashing sentence? Thats the law of their land and the nature of the crime sounds like indecent assault, so the perps are lucky they weren't castrated as punishment. If anything the sentencing serves as an example. Its a shame there are no lashings for chav kids in this country.
  13. Christ! the idiocy of that statement is astounding.
  14. No, Gangs of new york boring stop watching it now.
  15. Filesharing isn't illegal insofar as it isn't contrary to criminal law. Nobody has been prosecuted in a criminal court for filesharing. Civil action has been pursued by the RIAA of all the letters they have sent out a small proportion have settled or ended up in court. They only go after the distributors.
  16. geeks should go on trial for murdering python <_<
  17. Well the baddies or "federation" was the anglo-sino alliance. So maybe Whedon is suggesting that the chinese impact on world culture, politics and economics will represent its proportion of earth population... So did this idea come first? or later to justify the expletives?
  18. Yes this irked me too, chinese words permeated the language, yet none of the philosophy or culture seems to be assimilated as far as the frontier type people are concerned. It might have been that way back in the real wild west but in Firefly is Whedon suggesting that Christianity was popular among frontiersmen? Or that it is human nature to revert to dogma when you are barely scratching out a living. Where each day is a struggle to survive
  19. The fans are coming out of the woodwork!!
  20. Yes, owl faces are ever so expressive.
