But unless they can wrangle a much more favourable contract out of Bethesda - and given the options available to a company of Bethesda's size, not bloody likely - I'd rather them not do so. Sure, it'd put bread on the table, but by the sounds of it, not much else. A great option when you're starving, but looking forward, I'd rather Obsidian invest their time in projects that can grow the company, both financially and in stature. Something that'll keep on giving.

I'd revise it to choices that one would assume a reasonable character to want. The player might want to do something crazy and off the wall (and there are games such as SR3 that can accommodate that), and if the game can cater for that, great - but it's a bonus. But omitting an obvious and in-character option is infuriating. A recent example of such from a recent Bioware game makes me think this situation hasn't improved with their latest work. You're betrayed by a party member, they outright try to eliminate you, but you foil that plan. But instead of having the blindingly obvious thing of killing him for the transaction, the game forces you to take him back into your party. The worst you can do is to, um, pick the mean, bottom-right dialogue options when talking to him. The point is this - sure, it'd be fantastic to have the option to murder all your party members, but aside from roleplaying a psychopath, that'd be a desire borne purely out of the player messing around. I don't expect the option to be there in the game, and won't quibble one bit about the omission. But when we're talking about the character's perspective, the omission of arguably the most rational and sensible option is nearly impossible to forgive.

Resurrected my old box so I could give it away. Antec P180B Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 2.4GHz w/ Scythe Ninja cooler Gigabyte 965P-DS3 4GB OCZ Gold DDR2 Gigabyte 1GB HD5850 w/ Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo II cooler 60GB Corsair Force Series 3 SSD Sound Blaster Audigy Sony DVD-ROM drive (yes, ROM) 3.5" Floppy disk drive! Zalman 460W PSU System is a bit of an odd duck. The video card isn't original of course, but a trickle-down from my current system which was built with it originally. The SSD was an RMA return which had been sitting in a drawer for over a year. The system has no spindle drive. I had to search boxes high and low for a ribbon IDE cable for the DVD drive. And I have no idea whether the Audigy is even worth installing these days under Win7. The GPU cooler was the only part I needed to buy to finish this system. The sad thing I guess is that this system is a fair bit quieter than my current one (which is, in absolute terms, still pretty darn quiet). Partly down to the fan controller it has, so the CPU and case fans are mostly running at 7V instead of 12V. I've been too lazy to do this kind of thing with my later systems, and they probably need the extra airflow anyway.

Only the people eligible for and wanting to grab the Dragon Commander beta have any reason to rush, really.

Huh, thought LSL was tomorrow, because the KS website dates updates with local time instead of the updater's local time. Pleasant surprise.

Microsoft's best ever product was the original Sidewinder gamepad.

"rem" denotes a comment, i.e. the text that follows is not executed, I assume it's short for remark. Handy so you don't have to remember and retype the various changes you need to make from game to game. UMBs are just the bits of memory originally reserved for various specialised functions that had mostly become redundant in later times, and therefore the memory was 'reclaimed' for general use.
-
Not that I know. Though maybe sometimes it wouldn't fit in high memory and defaults back to conventional memory since it's usually loaded last? If expanded memory isn't required, the NOEMS option results in a bit more memory for stuff like the mouse driver. That said, if something had to be sacrificed to free more memory, DOSKEY was probably the first to go.

I do remember that, I also remember having to add various extra memory command lines to the original DOS command file ( config.sys ?) to get games like Kings Quest 1 working. I had fun but I prefer modern gaming where everything just works autoexec.bat LOADHIGH C:\DOS\MOUSE.COM Or something like: PATH=C:\DOS LH MOUSE.COM config.sys would look something like: DOS=HIGH,UMB DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS rem DEVICE C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM Was still doing this as late as the early 00s, when I had an old 486 to run my old games rather than DOSbox/GOG as is the case now.

The beta for the first two chapters of Moebius has been released for backers - not going to bother personally, but it's good progress. It may well make it to release before their other, publisher-backed game that's been essentially done since December but keeps getting delayed for commercial reasons. It's a handy example, and an indictment of, how some publishers go about business with small developers.

You aren't supposed to save them all. Your job is to save as many as you can. Save enough. Fine some and use them as bait for the aliens to rush into your killzone. You're right. I only saved 9 out of 18, but I had no casualties in my squad. Indeed you only actually need to save *one* civilian for the mission to be a success. Saving more is better in that you have more panic reduction as a result, but I'd never even sacrifice one squad member to do so.

Just built a mini-ITX box now after a few months of delaying. The need for it hasn't actually materialised yet, so it's going to my sister. Antec ISK300-150 AMD A10-6800K ASRock FM2A75M-ITX 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3-2133 Samsung 120GB 840 SSD TP-Link Mini Wireless N USB wi-fi adapter Might throw in an old 500GB 2.5" hard drive I have lying around.

Historical India is a prime target for a CRPG; there's plenty of mythology to explore there. But I can see why they want to enhance the graphics. It's a bit vanilla right now and the perspective needs a little work. Final hour plug for this, 40min left.

Shame THQ can't come back and go broke again so we can have another closing-down Humble Bundle.

Well I was referring more to it being sort of a charming moment, one of the rare few that showed these people were really friends, rather than just for the humour angle. It's kind of weird to say it in context of the tone of the game, but it was, um, really just a sweet moment (and hence the comparison to SD and all that). ...that, and I didn't get far enough to see either of those other things.

That singing sequence was my favourite thing in my attempt to play SR3. Might be somewhat of a case of damning with faint praise given I gave up not long after the first act, but still, it was a nice moment amongst all the psychopathy. Heck, it was better than the silly dates in Sleeping Dogs in terms of a character moment.

An alternative that's working for me is to just search for the games individually then add them to the cart manually. Tested using the search box in the top right corner. The system is smart enough to recognise when you manually assemble a bundle and apply the correct additional discount. This also appears to be the only way to buy multiple bundles in one transaction, if I try to use the banners on the front page, adding a bundle places that bundle and that bundle only in the cart. For what it's worth, I'm torn on whether to pick up the Daedalic bundle. I only already have Deponia 1 and wouldn't mind picking up the sequel, but none of the other titles in the bundle are really catching my eye. Aside from that decision my buys will probably just be non-bundled singletons, so no rush to do so if I don't go for any bundles today.
-
If I click on the "buy now" button, it adds all 5 to my cart then tells me I can only gift the purchase since I own some of the games in the bundle. If I click on any other part of the banner, it links here where I can select the games to purchase.

Tried it and it's working fine for me, both the button from the main page and from looking at the sub-page. Pleased to see everything on best sale at the same time, wasn't looking forward to having to check daily deals every day.

Dragon Age III / The Witcher 3 trailers. Impressions?
Humanoid replied to Rahelron's topic in Computer and Console
I find that hard to believe, in fact I would say thats highly unlikely. Bioware isn't going anywhere. They still have several million committed fans, like me , who believe in there products and enjoy the gaming experience they provide. These fans provide Bioware with a healthy revenue stream, so why would EA try to effect this in anyway? Origin had several million committed fans too... Note I'm not saying that I believe they'll suffer the same fate in the short-to-medium term, just that the quantity of fans probably aren't the metric the suits use to determine when to put the kybosh on a studio. -

To be fair, you can also start as a male commander and have an all male troop at the onset, so it's hardly a problem for those who want to stick to history. Sure, you have to turn down a few recruits over the course of the game, but there's enough NPCs regardless. Also my favourite KS game thus far, but it's the only one, so yeah.- 54 replies

Glad to see they've fixed that, for a couple days now it wasn't marking any games as owned, making it really hard to pick out stuff I want.

My recent attempt to play Arcanum kind of fell flat on its face when I, as a pure self-interested thief character, told Virgil to bugger off and tried to wander off on my own. After several attempts, I managed to sneak past the 'ambush' but the tightly packed wolves in the narrow mountain passes slaughtered me a dozen times over. Then I discovered/remembered that I could fast travel before engaging them. But by then I was a bit too annoyed at the game to carry on.
