Godlike pointless?
Striped_Wolf replied to Judicator's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It's bad because it revolves around something that shouldn't happen and for the most time isn't happening. It might arguably be good when it happens, but if that never really happens, and it shouldn't unless you're doing something wrong, it's a pretty **** power. If damage is not a problem, you probably dont need a the bonus anyway. I do however agree that Godlikes should recieve the racial bonus native to their race on top. And the frequency of the Godlike dialogue specific extras is something that we dont know about yet. It could be a redeeming factor. -

With the Engagement and Movement Recovery, shouldnt speed actually be more valuable than ever? Because when you really do need to move, you wanna make sure to get the most out of it.

Battlemage?
Striped_Wolf replied to schwanderen's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Its a two-way system. Most units got an engagement limit of 1. So if you attack an enemy, the combatants will engage one another. If you then come up with a 3rd combatant, that character can move about freely, since the enemy is already occupied with the first one. If the enemy decided to move, however, both your characters would get extra attacks of oppportunity. -
Seems as if perhaps HR Giger was a source of inspiration Since there is no equipment that has to be fitted with the godlike heads it shouldnt be that invasive. But what do I know.

Like in BG1, or deathclaws north of Goodspring, that's not really a problem. Pfft. You never tried to explore north of the Friendly Arm Inn to early and got slaughtered by ankhegs, did you? I did that, but quickly came to the conclusion that I should probably return south. That was part of the experience that made it feel real. Also, this soundtrack while exploring 4 areas of wilderness just to get to the objective. I still get goosebumps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKZba87MtLY

Range superiority is alive and kicking.

That actually seems kinda interesting to me. I enjoy a good challenge like that. And from a simulation standpoint, Engagement does make sense to me; Having your blades locked with an enemy is not the best time to back away and turn around unless you got a terrible itch for something sharp to go through your back... -
Wizard vs Cipher
Striped_Wolf replied to Myrten's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Not a huge factor, but if you plan on going into Lore, it may be the difference between being able to use a high level scroll and not. @ Lore 10+ that free point is worth quite a bit. -
Planning out a build

From what Ive gathered somewhere between 2 and 3. Class together with Background is an important primer to decide which skills you should be focusing on for maximal gain. -

Chanter with high Intellect and Lore. You can cast spells from scrolls and it doesn't stop your chant counter from building. It is slightly better for melee than the Cipher. Either class works though. Could be interesting! I think scrolls in general have much going for them. Theyre not restricted by per-encounter and/or rest, and they can apparently be both crafted, bought or stolen. -

Differnet classes/builds excel at different aspects of combat. Its not only about doing damage. Some classes are better suited for AoE damage, some for disabling or simply withstanding a heavy beating so that others can do damage from a safe spot. And thats just combat; then you have the social and scripted interaction skillchecks used to unlock new quest paths, rewards or circumvent fatal encounters altogether. Min-maxers seem to focus mostly on the pure damage dealing part, which to me makes little sense. -
[480] Trap damage on enemies + cheap encounter design comment
Striped_Wolf replied to mutonizer's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Oh, they get hurt aswell... yeah thats odd I guess. Is it possible to disarm it before they reach it? Perhaps they are jus less intelligent than skaen dudes. Not sure if there is supposed to be a standard for trap triggering mechanics. Perhaps in some areas, enemies will trigger them aswell, and in some they are immune (because they have set them themselves) -

Ehh... You are invading a Spider nest? Im glad to see they got some defenses going on -
Supposedly, this is going to be absolutely untrue, as the devs claim to be taking pains to ensure that there really are numerous conversation options for just about all of the stats at many different levels. Possibly not in the same prompt however. Having a well-rounded character might be beneficial if you want to overcome dialogue checks in general is all Im saying. Although with the gear switching it might be moot. On the other hand, carrying around extrea gear, changing up before every npc interaction might get tiresome. All in all, things to consider.

Or, a melee class specialized in Lore and Scroll slinging. Damn... This Eldoth dude is like Agent Smith -
Worth noting is perhaps that much of the combat can apparently be circumvented in favor for social/misc interaction. By being 'optimized' for combat effectivenss will most likely hamper your social ability. So yeah, all depending on playstyle. I remember in Planescaqpe I had a blast maxing out Wisdom for all the memory unlocks. And it payed off. But I wasnt much of a brawler

Striped wolf, whenever I just skim through something and see your avatar at the corner of my eye, this is what I see. I felt an unyielding urge to inform you of this. Fixed it for you -

Why would even try, apart from it being a derivative of other mechanics or overall AI improvement (which won't solve everything either, encounter design is very important). You CANNOT fight against people who just want to cheese everything, nor should you. This isn't a competitive game, it's a single player cRPG. If it's a bug, then yea, fix it, but if someone wants to make a team of fast running gun wielding one shotting rogues, let them! If they want to run with 6 druids and insta gib everything then run back to the inn after every fight, let them. They'll have fun doing it and it won't affect people who don't want to do it. The only thing they should focus on is doing what they want as part of their overall vision for the game, the way they want to do it (and fix bug obviously), not trying to prevent people from finding abuses in their system. Well, sure. But if the AI could be made more interesting (and less like space invaders) with an easy fix I dont see why not. Interesting encounters are more fun to me. But it also affects immersion, which is important in a game like this. Noone is asking for self aware super AI. Simply minor adjustments to make the game experience better, while solving some issues/exploits in the process.
