  1. simple, have one unit stand outside plinking away as a distraction, set the next unit to melee and have them bum rush the building to get inside. Usually that works for me. I think that CA has been resting on it's laurals. I mean you look at the AI and it seems like they would do just as well on any of the other games... like they'd just took the R:TW AI and said "I'll do" when they should have revamped the entire thing to make up for the (almost) entirely ranged combat.
  2. 6'1" 200ish lbs (haven't been near a scale for about 9 months but I've dropped a ****ton of weight because I only eat like one sandwhich for an entire day and thats' it.
  3. well, I invaded prussia who I'd been in a war with (technically) for most of 30 years. I took berlin and managed to fight off two other armies before getting enough breathing room to reconstitute my army (which had it's numbers cut in half by fighting). As it stands now I'm prepping to move into prussias final province in Europe before going to war with spain to retake france. For that offensive I'm probably gonna need three full armies, One to attack from the east, and two to head north from gibralter, one for Portugal and one for Madrid, I should be able to knock out all three cities in one quick move given how fast troops move this time around.
  4. I'm starting to get worried. I technically owe the US Navy 200$ from my stint there (for gear that they promptly took back as soon as I was known to be headed home) and they said they'd send me the specifics on how I was to send it to them 3 months ago (I was guessing it'd be in my taxes). So far I haven't seen squat from the Department of the navy... plenty from the VA system telling me to take their life insurance policy, but nothing from the navy itself.
  5. http://g4tv.com/xplay/reviews/1944/Residen...l-5-Review.html I know I'm doing a sin, but they're the only place I've seen talk about RE5. Short rundown of their review, Control scheme needs updating badly, AI is an idiot, often firing willy nilly when not in cover mode using all the ammo, and when in cover mode they do nothing. Inventory is done in realtime meaning that if you need to heal or something you're screwed because while you're healing your enemies will be eating your brains. But with a partner it's actually much funner than solo, mainly because the game becomes co-op rather than singleplayer with captain idiot as your teammate.
  6. D&D Home Page - What Class Are You? - Build A Character - D&D Compendium "I'll get the one in the back. That's one hobgoblin who'll regret ever lifting a bow." Rangers are watchful warriors who roam past the horizon to safeguard a region, a principle, or a way of life. Masters of bow and blade, rangers excel at hit-and-run assaults and can quickly and silently eliminate foes. Rangers lay superb ambushes and excel at avoiding danger. As a ranger, you possess almost supernaturally keen senses and a deep appreciation for untamed wilderness. With your knowledge of the natural world, you are able to track enemies through nearly any landscape, using the smallest clue to set your course, even sometimes the calls and songs of beasts and birds. Your severe demeanor promises a deadly conclusion to any enemy you hunt. When you catch sight of your quarry, will the transgressor perish by swift bow shots from a distance, or by the twofold blades that glint and glitter in each of your battle-scarred hands? ... interesting.
  7. hehehe, I got extremely lucky one time and managed to take out an enemy general with my first barrage of artillery fire in a fight.
  8. well that's the reason I've got the fleet and trade ships headed down there. I had a few posted, but a rather large pirate fleet (that's around because I haven't exterminated a pirates nest in the Caribbean) just went to the coast of brazil and mopped the floor with every trade ship down there. Meanwhile I've demolished one of the main people who was taking the other slots in the trade zones anyway so :shrugs: I should be able to clean up.
  9. well it's 1732 and I managed to take out the french (as the brits) I'm technically at war with prussia, the huron confederacy and I think one more group that doesn't start as an enemy, but they haven't really moved against me. I was frustrated when Spain kept popping up offering me 4 territories around the globe in return for france. I usually said no, but at one point i hit the wrong button and gave france to spain... oh well, I'll just have to kick their ass from here to portugal. I"m allied with the united colonies who've been fighting with prussia, and sweden for most of the game (thats the other guy, sweden!) but in general they've been keeping things at status quo. Right now I'm trying to keep all my territories updated (which isn't exactly an easy thing to do when they're spread all over the freaking map) so most of my money is gone for a while. In the Americas I started with one lonely outpost that was taken by the huron because I didn't even try to break the siege (to my stupidity), I turned around and sent a fleet with 5 line infantry and 2 pikemen. I beat the huron, then pressed into their capital and haven't seen anything from them since. Interesting thing, when I took out france in europe, they were officially gone from the rest of the world, Ottowa became rebels, and Quebec became a country in it's own right (I'm debating smashing them). I'm getting some trade ships together with a fleet of 4th rate ships of the line to go smash a pirates nest and put together some trade, hopefully bringing in more money. It was fun when I took the final french city in europe, They had walls which I pounded into dust on either side of the main gate while my infantry stayed well out of range of their rifles. I killed probably 120 soldiers just by taking the walls out from underneath them, and trapped most of their forces on those sections of the walls you can't attack (for whatever reason), then I used my infantry to run around to one side and get in behind them. Btw, grenades are AWESOME for changing the tide of a fight. Admittedly you do have to select to use them each time, but one set of tosses and you've got a pretty casualty report in a division or two.
  10. Honestly if they hadn't included the political garbage in 300 (let's randomly float back to sparta!) It might have been a better movie because it would have been all about viceral combat. The back home segements just made me want to kill myself, but i did enjoy the spectacle of the fighting. As to watchmen, I kinda liked the over the top action to a degree. Mainly because it made it feel more like a superhero flick (if that makes any sense). I'm not gonna say your guy's point isn't valid, but you'd expect that ex-superheroes would be able to murder anyone who tried to fight them.
  11. Company of Heroes. kaBOOM! hehehehe. I am very confused by that response. I've been playing it a lot recently. It's usually pretty straightforward, but even playing the AI can be surprising. worst time me and my pals ever had was a us as germany, the ai as allied, and the allies had 2 airborne and one armored division against us... the airbornes kept dropping troops into the fight, while the armored pumped out tanks as fast as it could, we fielded everything we could and it was still a 2 hour slugging match near their base.
  12. Well I started a game of Farenheit... I own the american version but I wanted the uncut stuff, so I modded it a bit God I can't believe how old this game is. The exteriors look pretty bad, particularly in the swooping over NYC shot that the game opens with. I also had to do a little bit of working with the controls so I didn't have EVERYTHING on the right hand side of my keyboard (bad idea that for defaults)
  13. Company of Heroes. kaBOOM! hehehehe. I am very confused by that response.
  14. Well I went to class, got over confident on two tests I took and bombed both, but the test i took last week that i thought I bombed in human development I passed with flying colors. Meanwhile in other news, I'm awaiting to see the full interview between Jim Cramer (of CNBC's "Mad Money") and Jon Stewart that they did because of the "war of words" that happened between the two of them.
  15. Bah, I hate to say it but you can't really do team books in movies without having half the characters have minuscule personalities.
  16. Actually once you've got steam on your computer and the games you want on it, you can set it to run in "offline mode" which will allow you to run it disconnected from the net. You do need the 'net for the first install but after that you can run in offline mode and either manually update it or let it hook up every so often to download automatic updates.
  17. I don't know if it's just the fact that it works beautifully in america but I love steam. It's probably the best drm scheme you'll find currently so I don't mind it that much. That said, I've been working my way through the "birth of america" campaign, I'm not very far, but usually the battles I get into have been VERY good terrain for me. By very good I mean I got into a fight and was surprised to find the terrain gave me a natural killing lane (A very small valley with a villiage on one side and a rocky outcrop on the other, both higher than the valley of course). I promptly set myself up so that the large majority of my army was pointed into the valley, with 3 regiments covering my flanks. The AI being an idiot, zoomed most of his force right where I'd hoped and got diced to pieces. He did try to flank but for the most part the three regiments I kept out of the ally was able to handle it. I did have to shift one of my deeper units out to a flank to shore up defenses with the 1 regiment that had held off 2 native troops. Then I got into a Siege fight where he tried to break my siege. I had a HUGE hill on one side of me so I promptly stuck three cannon up there with two infantry divisions while arraying the rest of my forces on the lower ground on the left. Fight starts and I'm already shelling their troops, I did have a small problem when a cavalry team zipped by my two divisions and started beating the tar out of my cannon, but I fixed that by sending one of my own cav divisions up to counter. By the end of it I had a HUGE mass of infantry in melee (I'd encircled and demolished most of his troops when they attacked me) with the enemy general while two colonials beat up an artillary team and took the fort. The survivors on their side were six to my 1400 (I started with 1600 and they started with about 1000 I think.) anyway here's the results for the first one
  18. maybe they're trying to introduce it to a new generation of players?
  19. That's a tad bit short sighted. I'm guessing if we were in a bar in 1810 you'd be saying "We should never trade, deal, or even talk to, the british because they're our enemies. Now and forever!"
  20. http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDet...roduct_id=74155 Fallout 1, 2, and tactics all being rereleased within the next months.
  21. PS2's in my experiance have formatting issues with saving... when I played only 1 in every 5 saves was actually written correctly, everything else was corrupted. PS1 stand alone is better IMHO.
  22. Is that 'the road to independence' Yep, it's very solid. George Washington is a pimp. reportedly he did die when he jumped out a mistresses window pantsless when her husband came home
  23. Sounds like the systems memory controls crapped out on you, that sucker is so old you probably can't get it fixed.. I'd suggest just ebaying a new one for dirt cheap.
  24. I think the reason is because some of the fear in books and movies comes from the unknown and the fact that your perspective is forced. In a game they could pull of the most frighteningly insane fear scene but it wouldn't work because the player is facing the other way staring at a plant. Now a good game would somehow make it so that the player is looking that direction already, but that's usually extremely hard to do. FEAR1 did it really well, but part of that was also the fact that you were in smaller claustrophobic areas, while in origin you're in sprawling areas where there is much less reason for you to be looking in certain directions. Another thing is that horror relies on vulnerability. You're going to freak out more if there is a very good chance of you getting splattered. However this is contrary to most game design where the players get stronger and stronger over time, or are already strong enough to deal with the main antagonist. I mean in FEAR 1 you were freaked out by alma because she could melt people with her mind and was also really powerful otherwise too, In one of the last areas of the game you're wandering through an old warehouse and hear her scream and literally EVERYTHING in the place goes flying. In FEAR2 they made it so that she didn't feel nearly as strong (the "tap x to knock her off" I think contributed to that) and thus alot of the vulnerability left the game.
  25. You could probably get away with 1000 vampires, but more than that and you'll probably have mask violations up the wazoo. As to the other supernatural entities, Wolves wouldn't be in the city, Mages would probably swarm the area because of the increased activity of the kindred, as would hunters. Basically if you have to high a population of vampires, instantly every other faction not related to them or bound to a certain area would flock to the area and every night the average citizen would be hiding in their house because the streets would be filled with warring between the different groups. I mean if you had 50k vampires in the same area there would be an entire section of the city dedicated to them (like a vampire version of chinatown). This sector of the city would be attacked again and again by Hunters, Mages, and the Technocracy all intent on wiping out a large % of the vampires in the world. It probably wouldn't matter the amount of mask violations or whatever, people would probably be able to sense the sheer amount of supernatural happenings in the area. Also with a high amount of vampires would be a high amount of ghouls. you'd probably have more than Half of london directly connected to the kindred, which would be way to high an amount. At that point if I were running a mage/hunter/technocracy organization I'd probably write off the entire city and cleanse it with fire and nukes. If you needed population values to be extremely high, probably your best bet would be to have it a temporary thing by having an event that draws HUGE amounts of vampires to the area, like finding and Antediluvian or something. As to the politics, I don't have any real ideas, but you could rip off black company and have there be somebody on top who doesn't really care about the infighting between their underlings as long as what they want is done. In black company it was set up with Lady>Ten Who Were Taken (10 sorcerers from the previous era who'd been bound totally to Lady)>Mortal commanders. But the Ten would feud and infight (and kill each other later on) without interference from Lady. For example, One of the Ten set up a trap for a Rebel commander. Another wanted in on the action, and wanted the reward because the money had been his war chest before being grabbed for the trap. Well the first taken let news of the others absence bet known to the Rebels in the area he was supposed to be watching. Rebel attack but are foiled by the appearance of a third taken. First taken's stock goes up with Lady, second's stock drops even lower, and third gets his giggles at embarrassing number 2.
