  1. While I'm wary of agreeing with Zor in general terms - and I'm sure this is reciprocated - I think he makes a valid point about the nature of protest. No British Government would allow Trafalgar square, let alone Parliament square, be occupied for this length of time in this way. Having said that I still think the Ukrainian protesters are plucky chaps and welcome to marry my sister.
  2. Hi Walsie You are another regular who has been conspicuous by your absence. Good to have you back Aw... you guys.... *savage right cross*
  3. IMO they are coming from a place like RPGCodex where "trolling" has its own definition and meme where it is both acceptable and encouraged, and they got butt hurt that outside "trolls" are seen as horrible people or according to this study psychopathic sadist. It like arguing about what is "cool", you will always upset several niche communities. RPGCodex, hah, softy noveaux trollites who can't stand the heat and need to get out of the kitchen whenever there is some real discuss!on that isn't scaled to their level. Usenet, bro, where trolls were trolls and moderation wasn't in the dictionary. Well, except in moderated groups, of course. (Yeah, some trolls are horrible people. Some people are horrible people. It's sheer inevitability) They should make me a Moderator of RPGCodex, half the members would be immediately banned and most of the other members would be on there last warning. " I'll bring order and respect to that cesspool of Internet forum social injustice"
  4. #ahashtagjustforyou I've felt burnt out, and even considered talking with a doctor about getting a month sick leave. I have been stressed out at work, even if there are some great moments from time to time. Working conditions are worse than they have ever been. I tried to imagine what that would mean in practical terms, and pictured you picking a live rabid marmot out of your lunchtime sandwich, with a resigned sigh.
  5. Being mendacious isn't trolling. Having an identity which derives core value from upsetting people is trolling. Equating that with being a worthless c*** is a value judgement, but I'm comfortable calling it.
  6. Long week. Not quite burned with glory, but not bad. Missed you weirdos.
  7. I stayed in on account of Mother Nature trying to kill me! Got all my ironing done, and threw out a whole bin bag of old clothes. While watching Breaking Bad. Now can't sleep. Suspect fence that blew away may blow back any moment.
  8. My favourite dialect is Sheffield. I've been out with several girls from there, so it's probably just the association, but still.
  9. I got fed up with all the hoop jumping. Valentine's Day turns romance into some weird alt of The Apprentice. And by fed up, I mean I still enjoyed planning extravagant and wild stuff to do. But I resented being forced to do it. I'm going to be celebrating by watching Breaking Bad, doing admin, then going to the old man pub to sit with the other old men and drink ale and tell rude stories about genitals.
  10. I'll not deny that Europe has corruption problems. The EU administration itself says that Europe has corruption problems. But you will allow me to point out that I am opposed to the every tightening Union. However, a key point is that mechanisms have picked up on the corruption problem and are addressing it. In Russia nothing is being done. Even the Russians themselves (the real ones, not our ersatz imitators) believe: However, it seems the mood of the board is against me on this one, so I will wind it down.
  11. "Histerion"? This isn't even close to how non-English speakers mis-spell words.
  12. If you give us some idea of what kind of character you are trying to convey we would probably do a lot better. A complete rundown of all regional slang could take years.
  13. I've just been thinking. The whole PR emphasis from Putin Central for these Olympics has been counter-terror. But the corruption and poor delivery seems to have done more damage to Russia's reputation than any terror attack would have done. The gay rights issue is going to make it even less attractive to firms who are sensitive about their public image. On the other hand, isolation and impoverishment could be exactly what a right-leaning coalition needs!
  14. Who Are All These People, and Why their conversation must be so important for us? There is no you and them, there is just the matter at hand. I know it's hard to grasp for someone so obsessed about nationalities and cultural and racial differences. FYI : Stephen Fry, along with Elton John and George Michael perhaps, are the grand Gaylords of Britaintm. They speak and people listen. Well, Stephen Fry to me is an intelligent enquiring mind, that cares about other people. I wouldn't call him a gay spokesman. Rather, a spokesman who is gay.
  15. I don't think I'm being cruel if I point out that the first man to agree with you is probably Stephen Fry. He's had a lifelong struggle with his sense of self-worth, including depression and attempted suicide.
  16. Indeed. Some may recall I went to Sweden on holiday a few years back. Shall I tell you what penalty 'health' taxation looks like? It looks like a city full of pubs with the only people in them being middle aged businessmen, and no-one else. I might know a lot of right wing idiots. They say a lot of weird nonsense about poor people. But not once have I ever heard them say that poor people shouldn't be allowed to drink or smoke, or make their own life decisions. FULL DISCLOSURE EDIT: I'm not saying my right wing acquaintances are great people. I have heard them say that poor people shouldn't breed. Which, given all the drinking and whopping it up seems rather poorly thought through. Only just thought about it.
  17. Simple rule of thumb: if women are sweating, then take your censorship and bugger off.
  18. Long and thin Won't fit right in And irritates the ladies Short and thick Is just the stick For mass producing babies.
  19. The slippery slope works both ways, I think. There is a recorded tendency by those in power to abuse and expand their power if no resistance is encountered, but that is also an argument that can be wielded to stand against reforms that can be advantageous to society as a whole. Ideally, the people would handle their own affairs and need very little support or intervention from the state—but then again we need the state (and the rule of law entails a degree of repression) because real societies and people behave and interact in... less than ideal ways. The optimal balance... your guess is as good as mine, quite literally. I don't want to misrepresent my position. I'm an engineer at heart. My default setting is to tinker and damn the consequences. But not if it's going to result in weird mayhem. I think What we have to keep fixed in the spotlight of awareness is what kind of government would occur if it felt so proud and certain that it never got drunk. And wouldn't take a risk equivalent to smoking a cigarette. The answer being a bloody disaster of a government. EDIT:
  20. I'm not sure if anyone else will find it funny. But just realised with horrible certainty, that my ambivalence towards my nephews and nieces is caused by my preconscious awareness that they are both smarter and more wise than I am. Little f***ers.
  21. Very very short track. I feel sure many folks here will enjoy it.
  22. @oby. Care to comment on your 'transition' from girl to not actually a girl? Because you are seriously hung up on female ideals. I'm getting a serious Bradley Manning vibe here.
  23. Valdivieso merlot 2010. Worth every penny, in this weather.
  24. I'm kinda disappoint that LoFoby feels obliged to start a new alt to make tourist bureau statements.
  25. Checking is not allowed in women's hockey. Only in men's hockey. WTF. I've dated (quite literally) more women's hockey players than I can easily remember, Violence was not a stumbling block. EDIT: why hasn't LoFoby chipped in with a "hail Nurgle"?
