Diablo III on the rocks
There is a market for games like that, and I dpn't blame people to catering to that market.

I'm not for the industry telling people what they can play and what they can't. First off, that is the responsiblity of parents. Secondly, the industry does voluntarily censor themselves to an extent. Lastly, this guy's arguement is centered around the notion that video games force people into violent crime, so his entire arguement is invalid.

I don't have time to play games these days.

Diablo III on the rocks
Zelda doesn't have stat-based gameplay, and Nintendo has always classified Zelda as an adventure game.

What Kind of Games Would You Like to Make
There were some good indie 2d platformers WAY back in the day like Jazz Jackrabbit, Commander Keen, Captain Comic, etc. If 3dRealms is going to take titles like Prey from vaporware to reality, why not resurrent the Command Keen franchise?

But the #1 reason that CRPGs aren't dying...
They have to get paid, right? I think you can have a great RPG on a console as well. Or maybe the console RPG makes the company enough money to finance the ambitious PC RPG.

But the #1 reason that CRPGs aren't dying...
If we going to plunge into a Dark Age, I think it would have happened after Diablo. It had huge success, and while there have been some clones, RPG houses stuck to their guns to put out proper RPGs. People slam Morrowind all day long, and surely it was flawed, but consider this. Bethesda implemented community suggestions and actively supports their fan base. They released mod tools, plenty of patches, and don't just abandon games after release. They spend plenty of money and time trying to make the best possible game they can make. They released ambitious projects and strive for nothing less than greatness. There are developers out there that aren't just striving for hack-and-slash games. They are trying to make good RPGs. Troika sure tried despite the flaws in their games. Bioware tries despite the flaws in their games. I'm seeing a lot of smaller development houses in Russia and Europe with RPG projects, and more and more indie projects. This is not a dark age.

But the #1 reason that CRPGs aren't dying...
Throughout most of the history of RPGs we've gotten hackfests. People act like like titles like Fallout used to be the norm, when they weren't. They never were. How many titles have we really seen like Planescape: Torment?

Let Bastilla know that it is officially confirmed (by rumor) again.

Your plan for the future?
The original Fallout developers had no experience working on a Fallout title before they made one. Many of the Fallout 2 developers didn't work on Fallout 1. And never forget that Fallout was supposed to be a spiritual-sequel to Wasteland. Did any of the Wasteland devs work on Fallout?

People could do it now actually.

Oblivion preview
I know about the Kobayushi Maru is from Star Trek. I don't know what in Morrowind is considered a Kobayushi Maru.

New PS3 details emerge...
Then don't read the post, genius. It's not like there are dozens of threads on the topic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Allard said the XBox 360 can't put out a single 1080p image, let alone two. And regardless of pipelines, the actual pixel shader ops per second have been clocked, and the RSX puts out twice as many.

I am really curious about Fallout 3. I have reservations but I know I'll buckle and get it anyway.

But the #1 reason that CRPGs aren't dying...
KOTOR and Morrowind that were RPGs that didn't just win RPG of the Year, they won tons of Game of the Year awards, and many action titles are starting to implement RPG elements because it is popular. There are boat-loads of RPGs on consoles that people on this forum are usually too proud to play. RPGs aren't in a dark age.

Your plan for the future?
Only probably? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know far less about it at this point.

Diablo III on the rocks
Feargus has come on these forums to defend Diablo being an RPG. Sadly, while I don't care for click-fests, I'd agree with him. It has stat-based gameplay and a narrative structure.

How about a monthly newsletter?
It is good to see a dev post after so long. I also searched in the members section under Developers and Moderators and Akari wasn't listed. For a while I thought OE lost our beloved Akari. It is nice to know you are still around. As I said above, you don't have to give away details of the game so much, even though you are doing so on Bioware's site. You might recap some of what is already being said there for people who don't want to go to Bioware's site. I think many of us would like to know a bit about the design process on the whole and what it's like to work there even if you don't want to give out personal info. (As if we didn't already know Feargie is a fan of wearing nylons! ) Again, what is the process like? What kind of guys are you hiring? How many people are working on PNJ? What are the in-house D&D and LAN games like? Does MCA sleep with an inflatable Mira doll? These are the burning questions we must know! Edit: On project speculation, MCA has ALWAYS said they don't want to grow too much or do more than 2 projects at once. I imagine the only way they would want to violate the small family feel of the company would be to do KOTOR:3 and finish what they started.

Guild Wars was started by some of the original Blizzard crew who left the shop.

LARP is a game. I know you're trying to be sarcastic and all, but it might come across that you don't know what you're talking about.
