  1. Damon and JJ both insist they have a 4-5 season plot arch with all the major events. For instance, Damon said at the end of season 2 we'll know how and why the plane crashed. They also said that when they did the pilot they knew they wanted to end the season with the hatch, but didn't know all the details of the season up to that point. The show has been consistent, so I think they do have an overall plan.
  2. Actually, I stand corrected. The site said you'd get to play the 360 before anyone else, so I assumed they were giving 360's away. The terms and conditions however state that they are flying you to the US Launch party. So for Europeans, you'd get to play the 360 before any other Europeans, but you don't actually take one home.
  3. M$'s latest viral marketing campaign website finally opened. It has had a countdown ticker for ages. And there is a contest to win a free XBox 360 and play it before anyone else. And the contest is only open to Europeans. Wonderful.
  4. Bad overhead on the MB SLI? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There has to be something wrong with their test since that is the only SLI test I've ever seen where you get half the performance with 2 cards, instead of increased performance.
  5. Auto Aim is cheating. You bypass the entire gameplay mechanic of aiming to automatically hit. That is cheating.
  6. Which games are those? Developed in-house by EA, that is. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I buy their sports titles, which EA develops in-house. And considering that EA bought Maxis, one could say all the Maxis titles are really in house. I'll definately be buying Spore.
  7. You shouldn't have to cover bad game design with a cheat feature. That's called broken gameplay.
  8. I find it really odd that the 7800 GTX can get 100 FPS with 4xAA and 16xAF with one card, but with Tom's Hardware running them in SLI, two of them together only get 58. How do you drop from 100 to 58 FPS by going from one GPU to two GPU's? So let's go to a third source. http://images.planetamd64.com/athildja/Lea...I/HL2%20SLI.png In this Half Life 2 benchmark, they try a single 7800 GTX versus a 7800 GTX in SLI. The single card gets 94 FPS average (mind you this is at 1600x1200 and at the lower resolutions like the other benchmarks were using, I think the 100 or higher FPS is pretty feasible) and the SLI setup gets 114 on average. This seems right in line with the benchmark I posted earlier, and it makes Tom's Hardware's benchmark look rather unusual. Edit: Check this! Seems that ATI has a real big problem with AA.
  9. http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews/revie...nVybF9wYWdlPTEw Here are benchmarks, and a SINGLE 7800 beats two x850s in Crossfire mode in Half Life 2, a game designed and optimized for ATI. When ATI's best cards, two of them in fact, can't beat a single NVidia card in a game optimized for ATI, then that's sad. And instead of buying two x850s and spending like $1200, plus a new $200 Crossfire motherboard, you could just buy a $100 SLI motherboard, and two 6800's at $200 a pop and get the same performance. $1400 cost from ATI. $500 from NVidia. Same performance in an ATI-centric game. That's DirectX which ATI is supposed to own. In OpenGL games like Doom3, ATI is flat out humiliated. Again, I can't think of a single major release where ATI hasn't had major driver problems. Doom 3, Half Life 2, Vampire: Bloodlines and KOTOR:2 all immediately come to mind where ATI had major issues.
  10. The voice acting in the original RE was classic!
  11. By the way, and more on topic, I found this. http://tremor.quakedev.com/cleanq3.html It is a project to clean up the Quake 3 source code, fix some bugs, and make some very minor tweaks. If it is like his versions of Quake 1 and Quake 2, it will also increase documentation and basically act as a springboard for someone who wants to futher develop or mod the Quake 3 engine. There are aspiring developers on the forum here, and I felt there are probably people here who would appreciate this. http://tremor.quakedev.com/cleanq3.html There is also a Quake 3 SDL port. http://mitglied.lycos.de/Q3Coderz/quake3sdl/ Also on topic, I've found a couple modded Quake 1 engines. http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/ - The most active http://tenebrae.sourceforge.net/ - Inactive but popular http://tremor.quakedev.com/tremor.html - Again, active Tremor doesn't include much info on their website, so I don't know if it is as feature rich. My knock against Dark Places is that they don't offer improved models and textures it would appear. Tenebrae is inactive. Anyone play any of these? Which would you recommend?
  12. ATI's top-end GPUs are getting killed right now, and their new Crossfire platform is pretty pathetic. Add to that most every major game release I've seen over the past 2 years has issues with ATI drivers, I can't see why anyone stands behind them. NVidia offers better stability, better drivers, better performance for the pricepoint, and better high-end options for the enthusiast. You have have 4 GPUs in SLI, or 2 in full 32x PCI-E modes. ATI is just now limping to multiple GPU support, yet their two best GPUs in Crossfire is beat by two 6800 U's in SLI or 1 7800. ATI also refused to offer x64 drivers for the longest time. ATI lives on the gaming market, but refused to recognize and support the x64 market. It just doesn't make sense. The newer 5.9 Catalyst drivers are the first that will install on x64 without a workaround. I find that unacceptable.
  13. Yet you are often required to fire blindly at things you can't see due to poor camera angles that you have zero control over. With shooting being such a huge gameplay mechanic, and not being able to see what you're firing at compounds with very limitied ammo, you've got a recipe for player frustration.
  14. I still can't see a damned thing. This is very poor marketing from Atari. If they're not ready to release full screenshots, then don't release any screenshots at all.
  15. John Elway played his entire career missing vital cartilage in both his knees. He was told he shouldn't have been able to play football in high school and that one good hit would cripple him for life. Not only was he a HoF QB, but he loved to scramble and compete, even if it meant sacrificing his body. Evander Holyfield boxes with a hole in his heart. One good punch to the chest and he dies. Not to mention that it makes any cardio work more difficult for him. Ronnie Lott chopped off one of his fingers that was broken so he wouldn't miss a game. There are plenty of stories like that.
  16. He used to be extremely accurate and that was his advantage. If he was in the pocket, he could throw 60 yards downfield and deliver the ball exactly where he needed to. Warner needs a good O-Line and he hasn't had one in years.
  17. I loved Alias for 3 seasons.
  18. Didn't some scientist prove the big bang happened? Or was it just that the universe is expanding from a central point that was proven? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My best friend worked on STARS (not the Resident Evil group) which was a post-graduate project headed up by Creighton University to prove the Big Bang and they largely failed. However, there is evidence that matter is not expanding outward in the same direction. We've noticed inward movement, as well as movement at different velocities and directions. The evidence that we built the entire Big Bang theory around was that the universe was expanding outward, and that evidence is now disputed. I'll see what I can dig up. Not to mention the entire basis of the big bang theory (that all this matter and anti-matter simply existed with no beginning or creation but didn't interact for whatever period of time, and then for no reason choose to interact and explode) pretty much defies every single staple of science we currently believe in. I'm all for science, but I prefer GOOD science. http://www.padrak.com/ine/NEN_6_8_5.html http://www.orionfdn.org/papers/arxiv-9.htm http://www.spaceandmotion.com/Cosmology-Big-Bang-Theory.htm http://www.newstarget.com/003643.html
  19. There appear to be a few modifications of the Quake 2 engine, but none of them quite as polished or as nice as the Quake 1 rewrites. I imagine with the Quake 3 code out now, that Tenebrae 2.0 might base itself off that code since it was early in development.
  20. It's a PS2 title in Japan, and I'm pretty sure it will be a PS2 title here considering the PS3's release date hasn't even been announced and thusly is probably 6 months minimum away.
  21. On principle I'm deciding not to argue with Volourn.
  22. Ubisoft's record wasn't perfect, but neither was Interplay when everyone worshipped them back in the day. I'll gladly take Ubisoft over EA any day.
  23. I think Daque is biased. I hated the controls when it came out on the PS1, and I still hate them. The overall gameplay is faithful, but couldn't the controls be updated?
  24. You can pay per month (which is then like $7.95), 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, or 24 months. If you pay for a year or two at a time, you get extra free periods. I think a year gets you 6 free months, and two years gets you 2 free years right now. I signed up for a year and got 6 free months.
  25. Abrams was always VERY specific with Alias. The show eventually jumped the shark, but everything shown or mentioned in any episode became meaningful. Small actions and subplots that seemed ignored, reared their heads later. The fans dissect every episode and Abrams crafts each episode with precision respectively. The producers insist the numbers have meaning, but they are no pattern that we would know about currently. Thus far there has been great foreshadowing and great attention to detail by the show's creators. Watch the DVDs and you'll see small details over and over again hidden in the background, such as Hurley's arrest being show in the background as Jin breaks into someone's house in Korea. These aren't accidents. Do the fans go overboard? Maybe. Here is an example or two or three. http://www.egoplex.com/2005/09/4-8-15-16-23-42more-lost.html http://www.egoplex.com/2005/09/more-lost.html http://www.egoplex.com/2005/09/lost-number...iching-and.html
