  1. just got home from the funeral the weather was quite windy and drizzly, so it felt rather appropriate really she had a plain unpolished wooden coffin, decorated merely with her firespinning fans and her hat that she was never without after the service her parents encouraged any of us who wanted to, to feel free to come paint any messages or pictures on the coffin as a parting token by the end there was barely any room left to paint
  2. Just sorted out the day of to head to the funeral tomorrow It still doesnt feel real
  3. well today was Wellington Anniversary, so I had the day off however any enjoyment of my 3 day weekend was quickly stifled today when I heard that a friend who'd only just been back in the country a couple of days had fallen off a fire escape and is in intensive care and will be getting her life support shut off I've been in a bit of a daze all day
  4. Read some of the first books. Interesting enough, but too 'slow' paced and too much, not sure what, but the stuff that makes you want to put the protagonist over your knee, spank him and tell him to man himself up a bit. Wielder of the White Gold my butt. Whiny ass emo is what he is I'm getting a similar impression of him. I keep waiting for some revelation to 'wake' him up. I don't know, if this second book doesn't get any better by the end of it I may ditch reading the rest of the series. generally i will continue with a series once i've started it, as i hate leaving things unfinished, but Thomas Covenant was one i just couldn't keep going with just finished reading Weaveworld by Clive Barker quite different to his typical Hellraisery type stuff but not too bad
  5. first day back at work today and it was sloooooow good thing i remembered to take a book with me
  6. you can "like" posts now?! i feel like an old fuddy duddy
  7. so just got home from a day out for my mother's birthday now she's been a crazy good parent. single mother with 4 kids and she worked her *** off for us. i remember barely seeing her for quite some time, as she was working multiple jobs (over a 5 year period she had a TOTAL of 3 days off) she's always wanted to go to Scotland to visit the old family castle and whatnot, but has never had the money or opportunity to do so, so a few years back my siblings and i concocted a plot we started putting aside money into a secret account, and over time we've gotten around $15,000 the plan was to do it for her 60th, but as she is... less than proficient with any sort of technology, we were at a loss as to who should go with her to effectively babysit her through the airport etc, but an opportunity arose my father has never been part of our lives really, and there is great animosity between him and his previous wife/family too however, we get along great with our half-siblings, and recently reconnected with one of our half-brothers. when he found out about our wee plot he mentioned that his mother (my dad's other ex wife) had been planning a trip to Scotland but had been at a loss as to who to go with a perfect situation. the two mad old hatters can travel together! so today we broke the news to her. she had no idea what we'd been up to, and when she read the little scroll explaining everything she just broke down and starting crying her eyes out
  8. i must find this any idea where in wellington?
  9. from what small context we have here, to be blunt it just seems like your dad is a total uptight **** "as a host" should you have wiped his *** for him too? shined his shoes? and don't tell me you had the temerity to make him drive himself?! no chauffeur?! bah!
  10. new years was quite a good night went to the gig and then back to bandmate's place to just chill out and chat until the sun started coming up then popped down the road for a morning coffee only about 8 of us in total so a nice quiet sociable new years
  11. getting ready for new years tonight picked up a of whiskey and prepped my bag for potential wanders through the hills after my gf's gig tonight
  12. it's been quite some time since i ventured into these parts haven't really been up to too much - mainly just work and hanging out at home with the gf and cats on holiday until the 7th january, so making the most of it by reading lots and refusing to wear pants
  13. i've been in hermit mode for the past few months, as evidenced by the massive hobo beard i just got rid of for the most part i've just been working lots of extra days, and when i am free i just chill at my partner's place and play games hardly bothered to go out for parties, gigs, lunch or anything, but i don't really miss it i barely hear from anyone, so i don't really feel as though i'm missing out on anything it was my birthday a few weeks back, and i realised i've been on this forum for about 7 years or so. strange how some things stay the same whilst everything else in your life goes through major changes
  14. finished act 1 and called it a night went with the witch doctor for my first character kinda undecided on skills - i keep switching them round
  15. tried it during the open beta weekend and found the monk and wizard quite fun picked up a physical copy this morning and installed it and just waiting to play
  16. might have to organise some time off work sometime in the next couple of months gf's band going on tour and she wants me to come along
  17. for the most part i like what they're doing with the show only a few minor gripes so far, such as: Ros - her character serves no purpose Stannis - the casting just seems wrong no Thoros (so far at least) - it'd be really interesting to see him as a counterpoint to Mellisandre as far as red priests go
  18. What have you done to the real Shryke?!? just starting to settle down in my old age i guess
  19. got hassled today about a party i didn't go to on the weekend sounded pretty standard really - music, debauchery, booze, etc i think i went for the better option however. i spend my saturday night at my gf's place sitting in bed with a cup of tea and a book and cuddling the cat
  20. i've recently been giving nwn2 another shot finally got around to getting SoZ, and it's been interesting trying out new races/classes in the OC, and it's nice to see skills being used in the overland map
  21. i liiiive! been very busy with work management were rather indifferent in upholding the conditions our contractors are supposed to be adhering to, and after dealing with infraction after infraction with no real consequence, i had multiple meetings with the managers to reassert some clearcut guidelines seems to be going well so far, and i've already busted some dodgy dealings and can actually enforce it with backup from management, rather than just being dismissed with "oh, we'll just give them a warning - it's ok"
  22. sigh friend who cheated on her bf a few weeks ago has now broken up with him don't know if it's because she told him what happened, or if she's still trying to keep things secret either way it was a stupid move on her part and she's ruined a good relationship because of it i'm going to a party on saturday to see someone who's coming back from Canada after being there since March last year, then after that i'm going back into hermit mode can't be bothered with people's dramas, and going to be picking up a lot more weekend shifts to try and get some more money together

my sister made me read it and the sequel too it's... okay i guess nothing special though. just the typical zomg main character is super fantastic mage and is a badass fighter at the same time oh, and plays the lute like a boss

  25. le sigh found out a friend of mine had cheated on her bf most of the guys she's gone out with since i've known her have all been idiots, but the one she's with at the moment is actually a really cool dude i gave her a bit of a telling off and told her to have some sense of consequences in other news, first day back to work after the xmas holiday today i work in a small office and today there were only 2 of us there my workmate however was quite sick and spend most of the afternoon lying on the floor at least there was hardly any actual work to do. i just sat around reading and doing crosswords
