  1. Sorry if I quote you that way, I agree with what you said, exept: No. No.
  2. http://www.edelweissrest.com/ i had the edelweiss platte, michele had the jagerschnitzel, and john had the kasespatzel. taks That's funny Thanks for the link! Good choices, I must say, I really like Sp
  3. Edelweiss? Traditional bavarian kitchen or what?
  4. C2D/Q and i7 are inherently incompatible, they have a different pin layout, thus requiring different sockets, and the i7 has a memory controller included, which is on the mainboard for the C2D/Q.So solid means: Is running stable under any cicrumstances, can handle CPUs with high power consumption, has a long warranty, good driver / BIOS support from its manufacturer, has a good layout (i.e. memory slots and CPU socket are far enough from each other that massive CPU coolers don't deny access to the memory slots, PCI-e x16 for the graphics card is placed in a way that the graphics card won't block access to memory, SATA connectory, CMOS switch / jumper, or the mainboard's battery etc.), doesn't provide performance bottlenecks, doesn't waste power etc., depending on your preferences. Check the following things to find out whether your motherboard of choice is a good choice: Reviews, for performance, also layout etc. Official (mobo-manufacturer's) website for compatibility with high power using parts (currently the i7 965 XE processors), BIOS updates, date of provided drivers Vendor's website for customers' ratings, details about the warranty etc. Yeah, I've got the same problem too, currently... Of course, it's never possible to prepare optimally, for example, if you'd follow the steps detailed above for every part in your PC, you'll have a year to decide on the parts, and until then, new parts are available etc.
  5. Let me rephrase that, for you specific-minded/"just google" people... Do you believe the low end i7 would have more core-system gaming longevity than the core2duo? I see some DD3 ram for like 100 for 6 gigs (probably a cheap brand, I know) and i7 motherboards for a few hundred...doesn't seem like a major price difference to me for a non-uber i7 rig? I believe there's more longevity in the i7 platform, yes, however there's no "low end i7", and if there was, I'd avoid it Currently, a 2.66GHz i7 isn't really faster in games than a 2.6 GHz + C2D/C2Q, but this can change when future games take noticable advantage of 4 threads or more. Furthermore, if you decide to invest into a solid motherboard, you can upgrade later on with a faster i7, while faster C2D/Q are not likely to be released. The problem I see is that the i5 (upcoming mainstream version of the i7) will use a different platform, which means that i7 will stay in its premium price position, so it'll never be a really affordable platform. Also, the current generation of i7 mainboards is the first generation, so you never know if it really will be compatible with future i7 releases (see socket 775, which stayed the same, but earlier boards still are not compatible with core2, core2 45 nm parts etc). To me, it's all gambling, but if you have the money, go for it. Oh, and when reading PSU reviews, they tend to neglect the "old, unused" 3.3V or 5V rails, but the i7 isn't drawing only from the 12V as heavily as its predecessors / competitors did and do! So make sure your PSU delivers on that front, too, as the i7 is one thirsty beast. And make sure you use it not only for gaming, because this would be a waste, as its real strengths are shown in other applications.
  6. Yes, by a lot, esp. if using Core2 with DDR2 (as DDR3 doesn't improve things for its old FSB architecture by much). If you say 'budget-minded' and mean it, then avoid the i7.
  7. The House Of Usher - You're the fire, I'm the ashes
  8. http://www.ironsky.net/site/ Iron Sky (There are Nazis on the moon)
  9. And maybe you won't hate me too much if it proves tiresome
  10. Samael - Western Ground
  11. More ideas? Random genres, stuff I like: Tristania (with Vibeke, don't know the new singer), Massive Attack (some songs with female vocals), The Eden House, Lacuna Coil, Faith And The Muse, Dead Can Dance (some songs with female vocals), Portishead, Blackmore's Night, Alanis Morissette, Helium Vola, Monica Richards, Inkubus Sukkubus, Persephone, Mazzy Star, Collide Hm... maybe there's more Rubicon - Killing Time
  12. *.exe isn't for Linux, this is very likely a Windows executable. What I have to say is: Never count on that!
  13. I currently dropped Etrian Odyssee until I find enough motivation to continue with hacking and slashing all the same monsters again while descending to the lower levels... And I started a game of Lost Magic, which I highly, highly recommend. My enthusiasm for Lost Magic may be due to Heroes of Mana I played before that is a strategy game as well, but with horrible controls and without the motivation of leveling, gathering new monsters, drawing magic runes etc pp. Again, Lost Magic is highly recommended! Story and motivations of bad guys may be represented in two senteces, sometimes "levelling" or "monster gathering" by looking for random encounters is necessary, and the art style is kiddy and not too stylish, but otherwise it has just got too good mechanics really. Top. Fun, addictive and everything.
  14. It's getting a little warmer and sunnier here at long last, and you listen to Wintersun Strange Boutique - We Treat the Blindness
  15. It's always strange when such things happen.
  16. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_computer_viruses, there's alle the usual freeware scanners available for linux, as well as Symantec, Panda, Kaspersky etc. if you want to buy it. The same should be true for firewalls. You can also manually secure your system a little easier than with windows, google for linux firewall (although this will bring up a lot of stuff about using a linux computer as a firewall, there's also a lot of info how to secure the computer itself).
  17. Indeed it was. Funny thing about it: The 275 uses more power than a 285 I like it how most of the reviews comparing 4890 and 275 kept to nVidias guidlines and talked about CUDA and PhysX... Both 275 and 4890 are two completely uninterestning cards imo, more of what we've got already. Good thing is, they caused the prices for the 260 and 4870 to be lowered, making those even better deals than before The coming 4770 should be a more interesting product, even if it's not in the same sector of performance. Today was housekeeping day, and I should now move on to read A LOT for university, but I need a break... I'll probably go and play some Heroes of Mana or something...
  18. I quite like the problem they had with the expired certificate that blocked each and every single player on earth from playing the game for a certain time - ah, the lucky sods that had a cracked version...
  19. Parov Stelar - Shine (feat. Lilja Bloom) Ah, cool!
