  1. I guess when the patch is finally released we'll see just how much an extra month or so of testing can accomplish in terms of bugs. If this patch fixes the majority of the technical issues, then I'd say it's a good bet that my theory was correct about another month or 2 of development/testing being all that was needed to avoid the backlash.
  2. There's debate about that, because then you could apply that to any weapon. I'm assuming you're talking about realistically, if a lightsaber connects, it would kill right away, correct? Well then wouldn't that apply to a blaster shot from point blank range that hit someone in the face? Accounting for "realism" is difficult in a video game where the whole point is to do damage and reduce your opponent's hit points as a realistic way to ensure that battles last longer than one shot and can actually be strategized for.
  3. I was talking about the PC version and how another month or so could have eliminated 90% of the bugs that currently infest it. Obviously any cut material is a different matter, but just in terms of actual bugs and whatnot, another month, IMO could have ironed them out, while at the same time not hurting Lucasarts' bottom line all that much while preserving the Star Wars brand name all this fallout.
  4. I agree with the armor. IMO, the armor looked goofy and I found myself just equipping the robes on my characters, even though they weren't as good as the Jedi armor, because of the aesthetic appeal. Lightsabers need to be MORE powerful? Are you joking? They're already powerful as it is, even the ones that haven't been upgraded.
  5. I'm still not convinced that a publisher will earn more total revenue by rushing a product rather than giving it more time to be complete. As it is now, I'm sure there are some people who haven't bough the game that probably won't because of the negative publicity its garnered. Had they given the game even another month of development/testing, those same people probably would have purchased a complete product. Not to mention the number of people returning their copies due to unplayability and such, which would also take away from Lucasarts' bottom line. I know that an extra month or two of development means Lucasarts' costs also are an extra month or two more expensive, but I'm not convinced (and won't be until I see actual rev/exp charts) that the extra costs for 2 months extra development aren't vastly outweighed by the extra eventual sales when word gets around about the "complete" product.
  6. I don't think Dark Forces is considered a cRPG.
  7. I'm still a little surprised at Lucasarts' way of doing business, though. I could understand if sales is all they care about, without any regard to the reputation of the name they are selling. But the name "Star Wars" is well known and I would have thought that Lucasarts would have taken pride in making sure that name is held to the highest standards, rather than just pimp it out for as many sales as possible. Especially when it comes to George Lucas. I would have thought he'd care more about completeness, considering how he himself complained about how he was rushed to finish his first couple of Star Wars movies. Now his own company is doing the very thing that he absolutely loathed about the industry.
  8. I don't think you understand his point that Obsidian can't tell them to rush it. Lucasarts is the ONLY one that can say when the patch can be released. Obsidian cannot "rush" them, even if they wanted to (and they probably do, just to shut up all the people who are constantly posting about a patch every single day in multiple threads).
  9. What do you mean "only heard recently about a game patch"? That announcement has been on the Obsidian main page since late Feb/early March. In fact, we've known that a patch was in the works approximately as soon as 1 week after the PC version was released. Question now is when will Lucasarts give the final approval in the process to release this patch.
  10. Long shot, but could Revan be a short for "revenging angel"? Consider how Revan turned out, he can be seen as both looking for revenge, and the Republic's "revenging angel" against Malak. Err...yeah.
  11. X-Box supposedly has some game stoppers as well, but the difference being the PC version actually has a shot at being fixed (if the patch ever gets released by Lucasarts).
  12. I like Star Wars. Lucasarts/Lucasfilm owns the Star Wars license. So it'd be impossible for me to get my wish for a great KOTOR3 without Lucasarts as the publisher.
  13. Longer development cycle.
  14. That reminded me of a CSI episode. It starred Tony Hawk and was about one beta tester killing another one.
  15. Ehem! Unless I missed it, no one answered my question. *gets in a huff*
  16. My PC would certainly be packing heat.
  17. I believe if you choose DS Revan, . If you choose LS Revan, Or something like that.
  18. Ah that would explain why I was foggy about this. Based on your estimation, and my join date, I think I signed up right after or right about the time the announcement was made that Obsidian was developing KOTOR2. So approximately 3 months after the forums opened, which means that if they stay true to this pattern, we'll be seeing forums (hopefully) approximately 2 or 3 months before the actual announcement of the title. Which still doesn't tell us much right now.
  19. Taris. More things to do and less linear. Plus a significant amount more NPC interaction on Taris, which I enjoy.
  20. And the fact I haven't had to pay full price for any of my cRPGs except for KOTOR. :D the bargain bin and/or ebay
  21. Can someone refresh my memory. How soon before announcement of the actual title did the forums for TSL and NWN2 open?
  22. Knights of the Old Republic. Yes, I was brand new to cRPG, but have since played most of the "classics".
  23. It's a prequel of KOTOR, but does that mean it will actually contain any of the characters or events of KOTOR? Or just set in the same period?
  24. Good job with posting spoilers.
  25. Please don't lurk. You've made a much better constructive comment for your first post than half the "newbies" have made in all their 50 or so posts combined.
