GhostofAnakin replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Hmm.....another "who should make KOTOR 3" poll..... Is it time for another monthly installment of this poll already? -
No. He decided to just edit all his posts instead.

Poll - Obsidian's Next PnP to CRPG Project
GhostofAnakin replied to Rhomal's topic in Computer and Console
I'd say Feargus has hinted at such, since he commented something about publishers thinking that games need to be console capable in order to sell well. (paraphrasing here, don't hurt me Feargie) -

KotOR2: What a disappointment...
GhostofAnakin replied to KilrB's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That would be interesting. I loved that series (when does the final one come out?) and is one of the main reasons I even bothered to re-install NWN. -
I'm like Anakin Skywalker. I easily fall prey to the Dark Side's siren call.

Should Revan Have An "Offical" Gender?
GhostofAnakin replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That we do. And thus why I believe the KOTOR series is a good compromise. But I've seen far too many posters (majority of them female) complaining that KOTOR doesn't give them ENOUGH female-gamer options. And that's where my definition of "catering" comes from, where they make it sound like game developers should go to extremes, even at the cost of upsetting the male market, just to cater to what they want to see in a video game. -

How do you figure? She's the one that was threatening to "take her toy and go home" because she was upset by some comments in this thread. All I said was that was her prerogative, but that it'd be quite an immature thing to do. As for ignoring the minority altogether, yes it would be a mistake. But all along my posts have been about CATERING to the minority. Obviously it's a wise decision to try and make all markets happy, whether it be male or female, young or old. But what I disagree with is a few posts in this thread that make it sound like game companies should shift entirely to cater to the female gamers, while not taking into account what the male gamers (ie. the majority) would think of this switch. From a business point of view (which I've been arguing all along, even though people seem to think ANY argument involving females is automatically done for sexist reasons), yes I do think that if the market shifted and there was conclusive or atleast widespread agreement that women now occupied 60% or more (which is what males do) of the market, then game companies SHOULD cater to them first and firemost, then and only then, try to worry about the minority market. -

Atleast you didn't see Han and Leia rolling around on some sunny day in a meadow while there is war raging on. As for Anakin, if he was the "Chosen One", they should have had him INTEND to destroy the droid control ship to show at an early age just how powerful he was, instead of just some lucky kid who happened to press a bunch of buttons and levers and good things resulted. I could take ewoks ANY day over Gungans. Atleast ewoks just grunted, so you didn't have to listen to their annoying speech trying to mutter out sentences. -

Prequel had some interesting parts of the story, but the story itself was rather dumb. Gungans? 9 year old Anakin "accidentally" destroying the droid control ship? Not to mention the painful love scenes in AotC. I think RotS might prove to be a good movie, but until it is released, the 2 prequel movies have sub-par stories. -
Tell you what. If you do what he did, and post this EXACT same thread in multiple forums, giving us all details of how much you hate the game AND a detailed account of you returning it, then I might decide to give you the same treatment. :D But to be honest, I don't have a problem with someone who dislikes the game or complains about it. I have a problem with people who complain about it ENDLESSLY, and who feel the need to tell other people things no one (even those others who are complaining) even cares about, such as returning the game. It's stupid and it's a cry for attention. "Oh look at me. Hey! I said LOOK AT ME! I'm throwing a tantrum and returning the game! Damnit why won't you look at me? Maybe if I post this in every forum imagineable then you will look at me!"

They actually had good stories? You mentioned stuff about the prequels that appease the visual senses, such as better lightsaber fights, better scenary. But it lacks in actual story substance. I think of the two as types of video games. One is all eye candy with cool graphics that make you go "wow" then you first play the game, while the other has average graphics that don't immediately make you drool. But then once you've played for an hour, the former becomes tedious and boring, with not much of a story behind it, while the latter draws you in to the story and doesn't let you go. -
So Harv, how soon until you buy an X-Box so you can play JE? "

Should Revan Have An "Offical" Gender?
GhostofAnakin replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That may have been argued in this thread, but not by me. So please don't quote one of my posts and associate some theory of someone else's with it. I'd never stated that a female gaming market doesn't exist. I've simply stated that it's arguable how big it actually is, and that at present I don't believe it's big enough to warrant companies shifting focus from the majority (male market) to the minority (female market). I'm merely pointing out that at present, the majority of gamers are still male, and thus it makes very little sense to cater to a minority rather than a majority. Plain and simple, nothing more. I don't care if the percentage of women is 5%, 15%, 25% or even 40%. It's been a while since I was in math class, but that still makes the MAJORITY of the market male, and thus it's still better business to cater to the 60% market rather than the 40% market. Which is your prerogative. And while I believe you're just saying this to make some kind of point, I'd say that's a bit childish if you guys actually did do that since you'd be doing it out of spite because some people, heaven forbid, actually had the audacity to make comments that go against what you believe. But hey, much like the gaming industry can make games that suit them, so can you. But then again you'd be doing exactly what you and a bunch of other people are accusing the gaming industry of. But why stop the hypocracy now, though. -
And yet you had to post this? A couple of questions: 1-It took you this long to return it? You've used every single one of your posts to complain about the game and to bash Obsidian/Lucasarts, yet it took you until now to actually return it? 2-This is a storyline forum. I'm not really sure how you returning a game has anything to do with the Star Wars storyline. And a final comment, good for you.

Should Revan Have An "Offical" Gender?

Talk about misleading numbers. It's nice that you highlighted the percentages, but didn't bother to disclose the "fine print". For instance, link one and their 41% number. You touched on it, but didn't bother to actually give a number for console percentage. That drops to 28% of consoles are bought by women. Not quite as big a percentage eh? But yeah, despite the fact that CONSOLE games are bigger selling, lets focus on the one that helps our argument and post the 41% computer game statistic. Then link two, here's an excerpt that kind of disproves that the 40% actually represents those who would play RPGs or FPS. "This includes everyone from little girls enjoying Barbie games and grandmothers playing online bridge to the growing number of female gamers who go head-to-head with their male counterparts in the current best sellers." Basically, your precious 40% number, which is supposed to prove some kind of point, includes GRANDMOTHERS and LITTLE GIRLS who only have interest in specific types of games. Somehow, I can't see my grandma tossing in PS:T and having a go at it. But again, you post the numbers without actually posting the "fine print" that shows those numbers are grossly misleading. And finally, article 3 proves that you once again didn't bother to either read the entire article, or just posted the part that helps your argument. But I'll do you a favor and quote yet another interesting piece of information written in the article. "One does a double take when one sees that more women buy computer games that men, but note that these figures are related to purchase -

KOTOR 3 - Truth or speculation
GhostofAnakin replied to RobMcB's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You sure about that? I'm not contesting it, since I don't have factual proof either, but perhaps Lucasarts "allowed" Bioware more time because they realized Bioware had to create an entire engine from scratch, whereas that part was already done for Obsidian and thus no reason to have a long development cycle. -

Old ones. Btw, why does the "new ones" option mention something about droids? That confused me because the old movies had droids in them too. -
Does it say where those other NPCs stand around when they're not selected? The Ebon Hawk doesn't make an appearance as their resting place, does it? "

I didn't realize that only one NPC can join you (atleast in battle). I was hoping for my mob-style gang running behind me. :D

Should Revan Have An "Offical" Gender?
GhostofAnakin replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I can't prove it without a shadow of a doubt, but my point was my estimation is a lot more logical, given the fact that a)9 out of 10 people are males when you go into your local video game store and b)most people on message boards are males or appear to be males. If there are females hiding incognito, then it's YOUR fault (a collective "you" for all females who hide their gender) for giving off the impression that you don't exist. If, in fact, you are correct and there is this seemingly huge population of female gamers out there, then you only have yourself to blame for not "showing" yourselves so that developers and publishers know there is an actual market for it. As it is, (and this is the part you seem to have trouble with), why should people who make games ASSUME that there are a bunch of female gamers when only a select few actually bother to make themselves known? Why should a company like Lucasarts (since this is a TSL forum) put up $20 million or so (or whatever the cost of production) on the ASSUMPTION that there MAY be a market among female gamers, instead on concentrating on the existing KNOWN market of male gamers? I think too often some female gamers seem to have this delusion that whatever they believe is in fact, fact. Because they and some of their friends are gamers, then that automatically means that there are more girl gamers than guy gamers now. Because they think gaming companies should cater to them, that means that gaming companies should shift their focus from a guaranteed thing (male audience) because of a supposed speculation that a bunch of female gamers are out there, even if they say the majority of them hide their gender and never actually give an accurate display of how many this supposed number of girl gamers there are. And before you comment on me being a hypocrite for not giving proof to back my theories, there's a slight difference which makes it less important for me to back up my theory: the fact that game companies ALREADY agree with my theory. I'm not the one trying to convince these game companies they need to change their business practices, because they already operate under a similar belief as what my theory dictates, that there are much, MUCH, more male gamers in the world and thus a much more profitable market. You, on the other hand, want the game developers to change their business practices. Therefore the burden of proof is on you, since you're the one insisting that the current theory (ie. the one businesses currently go by) is wrong. -
Off topic slightly, but I'm wondering whether I don't watch enough TV, or they don't advertise games where I live, but apart from constant commercials for GTA: San Andreas, I rarely see any video game ads on television. In the past year I think I've seen GTA:SA, a couple of Fable ads, and one or two Halo2 ads.
