Doing the Mass Effect operation for this weekend. There's been a lull in my Skyrim journey as I've been drawing a bunch lately, but I figure I'll return the Thieves' Guild to its former glory tonight and then take up the Dark Brotherhood up on its offer. I still haven't gotten far in the main questline. I ought to do that at some point.

Am I right? Do western AAA developers think...
Maria Caliban replied to anubite's topic in Computer and Console
Sure, modern developers are focused on creating fun RPGs. That's why they removed all the stuff you liked. -
I just finished a game of ME 3 MP. I'm going to go play Skyrim in a bit.

How much did Willy Loman accomplish, anyway? He provided for his wife and children. One of the themes of the play is that it's okay to be a regular person and just accomplish regular things. Only being satisfied with accomplishing great things, or wanting your son to do so, can lead to heartbreak.

Now imagine that whole experience with Morrigan following you around Wow. But if Morrigan were following me, she would have given me the option to kill Lee. It would be worth it. Good pick! -

I finished the Walking Dead episode 1 and started episode 2 last night. Got to the part where I had the option to chop the dude's leg off, and decided to hold off on that. I'm off to do the second episode now. You can upgrade Haythem's weapons, you can complete the side mission(s), and those cast members will be important to Conner later on. Also, if you want side mission... yeah. This game will give bury you in side missions. Conner also gets his own upgradable HQ later on. That said, you're right. The beginning is boring. I think they wanted to explain how a native american could be the descendent of Altiar because they think their audience is stupid. I never finished the original Witcher but I was never lost during the Witcher 2. If you ever find the original boring or unenjoyable, feel free to chuck it and move on. The second is much better. -

Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
Maria Caliban replied to Metabot's topic in Computer and Console
I come and go. That's something of a tangent, but since you asked, I'm not fond of it. -
Your government hates you. I expect a new game to be $50 or $60 depending on how 'hot' it is. XCom is in the $50 range. 66% to 75% off the sticker price is 'cheap' for a game. If I got X-Com at $17 to $12.50, I'd consider it a cheap buy. That said, I don't always wait for games to be cheap. I got DX:HR when it was 25% off. I buy a number of games new. It just depends on how much I want it.

I've never played an X-Com game. It's more about a lack of funds ATM and the feeling that it will probably be cheaper come Christmas time.

Divine Divinity was a fun game. Divinity 2 was an okay game, but you did get to turn into a giant dragon and fly around. The problem with the Divinity series is that you always lose. The point of the series is that you try to defeat the Damned One, but at no point can you do so. Much of the time, you attempting to defeat the Damned One is merely you playing into his hands. At the beginning of BD, you're chained to a Death Knight who is like the Gilbert Godfry of companions. He frequently whines and his voice is annoying. There are also random 'battlegrounds' with randomized battleground quests. One quest had me fight 'that naughty Gwriveryn,' which was a giant spider trapped in a boxed off room I couldn't reach. It didn't fit with the rest of the game, wasn't fun, but gave good XP and if you skipped the battlegrounds, the regular game became progressively harder and harder.

Hate the title, but am sure the game will be terrifying.

Sacrilege. I've also heard Christmas songs on the airwaves. -
I bought and am downloading the Walking Dead. For $12.49, I might as well give it a try. I really, really want X-Com, but am going to hold off on buying it.

Morrowind...aka WTF happened Bethesda
Maria Caliban replied to Metabot's topic in Computer and Console
I believe I played Oblivion for 5-10 hours, gritting my teeth and waiting for that Morrowind magic to return. It never did. I disagree that Fallout 3 and Skyrim are as bad as Oblivion, or that Morrowind was vastly superior to those two. I do think that Morrowind best captures and expresses those things which I play Bethesda RPGs for: A rich and detailed world, a ton of backstory, a wide number of virtual toys to play with, and an environment that encourages and rewards exploration as opposed to following a story line. It's not nessarily a better game, story, or RPG, but it's a better sandbox. -
I noticed Sleeping Dogs is on sale. I know action/sandbox games don't appeal to everyone, but I thought it did the Hong Kong action movie justice and I enjoyed it from start to finish. I've heard that Max Payne is inspired by film noir and hard-boiled detective stories, but the trailers seem to be a 'grizzled' white dude killing a bunch of criminal Latinos to save a white woman. After LA Noire, I'm hesitant to pick up another Rockstar game. It was a great game in places, but the Homicide line was about as cheap and skeevy as anything I've seen in a video game. What about Prototype 2? I don't know anything about that. Shut up ****! I will ****ing cut you!

What is the WiiU? All I know is that people in the ME 3 MP say the WiiU will join multiplayer. -

I decided to finish up Psychonauts, got to the meat circus, quit, and deleted it from my HD. It's a creative game, but the Asylum is the best part. Playing Darksiders II. It feels a lot like Prince of Persia. The boss battles are puzzles that are relatively easy as long as you know what to do - I approve. The regular battles are slapping mooks around and then dodging away before they can retaliate. The 'mid-level' fights though are always the same: your highly acrobatic character is trapped in a small room with a giant monster, or maybe two or three of them. They have AOE attacks that do a large amount of damage, and if you find yourself in a corner you can't dodge away. Oh, I really like the music. -
I'm considering picking up X-Com but am willing to bet that it will be on sale even more during the Winter sale. In fact, everything I want is probably going to be even cheaper if I wait a month. :/

Torchlight II is basically a Diablo III that doesn't take itself too seriously. And is cheaper.

I started the game about three weeks ago. Have a level 41 Jedi Sage. Very light side. I have a giant lizard friend who often gets the crap beaten out of him while I kill things from afar. I'm on the Harbinger and have done a single Flashpoint and only the Heroics I can solo.
