TSL Restoration Project: Work in Progress
Dashus replied to Aurora's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
By orders of the Supreme Leader (see Aur) no specifics will be given out until release. *Waves hand* You don't need to see our details yet. Move along. Mostly this is because we want things to still be something of a mystery. Revealing the details now is kinda like having your mother call you in the middle of Christmas shopping askng you which video card you wanted ^_^ -

Pain is not for me ...following standard RPG male romance writing she'd have mellowed out when you hit on her later in the game-if it applies to Viconia it'd definitely apply to Mira Oh and congrats on graduation! -

Mira has literally no romance options...trust me; she was the first one I checked for that . Handmaiden's got nothing to restore as well...when cuts are made generally the first thing to go is non-plot-essential elements. In this case that means the romance quests So with the Job Thread over at the official forums up once again, and knowing you all as we do, we figured that at least 100 of you would try different combinations of "team" and "gizka" hoping to stumble upon the new site. We thought we'd save you the trouble. It's not up yet; we'll shout when it is (though we might be beaten to punch by those of you that are going to be checking this every minute and a half ) -

Yeah the original is back up at least until we're up on the new host I've heard. No telling whether that could go out at any time though... -

Ancy bunch ain'tchya Kiwe: DSL still down Aur: off doing graduation things JD: off on business Dash: working on mod Razor: off doing work Force: just finished exams; working on mod TA: working on mod We don't have a new site yet because Kiwe's in charge of the move and seeing as his inet is down we can't do much about it. Updates arrive whenever there's progress of a general sort. We're not gonna resort to posting audio versions of the CVS logs Though I suspect that if we set up some sort of feed of the CVS logs on the main site when it returns many of you would just sit there refreshing the page every 4 seconds -
Getting back to the topic at hand; the gaming business is run by one thing: money. The development time of a software product is directly related to the amount of money the developer receives/allocates. So long as the money is there, the developer may continue to pay their employees to work on the project. In the case of KotOR2 LucasArts felt that the Christmas release would yield higher and/or quicker profits than the original February release date. This means that in addition to supplementing revenue on 2nd quarter financial statements (quarter ends December 31st), it eliminates an "accounts payable" entry. LucasArts also has a track record of 1-year development cycles. The majority of developers in the gaming industry cringe at that number. It is a very short time period. Developers are free to try to get extensions on development time but this costs the publisher (additional) money. Bioware has the clout to request such extensions without too much trouble. Smaller companies like Obsidian often do not. This also works in reverse when the publisher decides move forward the date of release. There may also be something to be said for QA. QA isn't exactly looked upon as a glamorous position. But ultimately they determine if a product is to be given the green light to ship. In the case of KotOR1 QA was handled internally by Bioware. For KotOR2 it was handled by LucasArts. Feargus made a point to mention that QA is internal at Obsidian for NWN2. Regardless it all comes back to money. Money is time. Time is Money.

When we make enough progress to report :D We've decided on a new host but until we've got everything up and ready we won't be revealing who. Also if it's not up by the end of the weekend just assume that Kiwe's DSL is still spotty as it's been for the past week; it's always something... -

We've narrowed our search for a new host to 4 candidates. We hope to have our new domain up by the end of this upcoming weekend at the latest. Stay tuned. -

At last check you have to copy the link (in firefox "copy link location") and manually paste it into the URL bar and hit return. Razor's got an anti-direct link protection thing enabled that's inihibiting easy download; we'll try to get that fixed -

With one module (902MAL-G0T0/Remote ending) at beta we thought we'd do some more general testing, and it looks as though a) this mod is not going to be transparent and b) 7zip is the likely format of the final download Mod transparency, for those unfamiliar with the term, is the ability to install a mod and being able to play without having to go back to an earlier point in the game to ensure that the mod works. The problem is that the git files are stored in the save games themselves and since we're editing them there are some fun things that happen. Which is another way of saying things get really screwed up . So it looks like starting a new game is the way to play the modded game (you'll still be able to skip Peragus and experience everything the mod has to offer). 7Zip, if you've not heard of it, is a newer archive format that beats the pants off every other compression algorithm out there. As part of testing today we tried archiving the entire K2 Modules directory (83.6MB). The 7Zip archive was a mere 3.63MB, which, for those keeping score at home, is a 2300% reduction in size . Yikes. In a good way . While we're not particularly fond of the 7Zip program's UI, other programs are starting to support it (winrar does, and we're unsure about winzip). Quick website update-We've gotten a few offers for hosting and we're looking into them. -

Audio update here -
When in doubt (or when presented with possible rumors <_< ) check the project thread. It will always be accurate.

If the website is down don't be alarmed: we may be switching to a new host in the next few days. We'll keep everyone updated. -

Text updates simply tend to be longer to do, so I think we tend to avoid doing them. Audio updates would be more frequent and closer together simply because of ease. However, that is a point that had not been considered . That alone may well cause us to return to text updates. -

College. Finals. Need I say more? -
Her dialogue exists actually: it's in every 80x folder in StreamVoice (obviously it should only have been in one folder had it been included in the final game). The problem is that the only other voice is that of IS24, a droid. 2 voices a level doth not make. And while there's an overlying plot evident (re-enable M4-78 and free master Vash) there's no indications of plot points (or even of complete level design in some cases where walls and doors are missing). That said we don't have any philosophical or moral objections to doing the planet. It's just that for the purposes of the mod, not trying to do it moves the release date from "before we're dead" to "way before we're dead" :D
-
Don't worry we're still working on it . Most of us are in college and last weeks/finals are upon the majority of the team. Also much of what we're doing now is under the hood work for what we've shown screenshots for (it's kinda like releasing a trailer when only half the movie is done: yes there's some cool stuff but the majority of the work still lies ahead ) RE the droid factory and planet downloads: put the files into your K2 modules directory and then use the warp command to visit the areas. ie "warp 298tel" will take you to the droid factory. Keep in mind these are the modules in their unmolested unmodded form so they are very rough in some spots and in some cases simply will not work. These are the files we started working with. In the case of the droid planet files (80x) we're just providing them so people can see what the planet looks like (as we're not working on the planet).
-
The inter-party dialogues are all contained within the 003EBO module. The actual conditions are (I believe-I could be horribly wrong as this is not my area of expertise) determined the scipt k_003ebo_enter which jdnoa so kindly decompiled for us though it doesn't look as though it made it into that decompiled version. You can open k_003ebo_enter.ncs in the RIM->Modules->003EBO subtree but it's rather dificult to figure out from that as it's a compiled script. Razor or JdNoa might be able to give more info.

The outcome of that is directly related to the Droid Factory. We've added a modified VO to that scene and it still needs some work with the addition of a few new camera angles. It's 80% finished -
Crate in the Sith Temple on Dxun
Dashus replied to Shalynn Lors's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
We've put a patch for that up on our website just now -
It was likely a time issue (which is really a money issue-how much money LA is willing to pay obsidian determines the length of the project). As I understand it Obsidian had grand plans to add as many as 5 planets via XBox Live.

At this point there likely will not be an update this weekend. Most of what we've done (see: code) is pretty uninteresting to most . Rest assured, progress is being made
