Hate to break it to all your KotOR III new avatars
Jivin replied to Lord Orpheus's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Like a lot of people, im happy if there is a new PC character, as long as they take the time to think out the storyline and give adequate closure where needed to all of the plotlines and character relationships that have been left in an unsatisfying way from the last 2 games (as well as any new ones they create). Beyond that... I think I actually like the idea that the new character is a jedi trained at the 'new' academy run by the old party members from KOTOR2, as i was one of the more prominant suggestions by Kreia at the end too. Without going nuts with spoilers can someone answer this please?: Cheers - Dan -
Where is the romance in this kotor2 ?
Jivin replied to antagonistix's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
No doubt they played the romance a lot differently in KOTOR2... its definitely not as 'open and shut' as KOTOR1. I thought they way they approached both was good from an entertainment perspective, though the more subtle (perhaps beleivable?) method in KOTOR2 maybe added to the immersion factor a bit more. That said though, the ending they included really did not lend itself well to such complex romance story throughout the game, which sort of meant a lot of emptyness come the end, so hopefully if the characters appear at all in a 3rd installment the romances will be finalised a bit more? I mean, the result of the Bastila/Carth/Revan stuff in KOTOR1 was finished pretty abruptly from a relationship perspective (and they even mentioned that at the end of KOTOR2) in KOTOR1, but the sorta transperant love story meant that it didn't matter all that much because it was so clearly obvious that something was on the cards for Bastila/Carth and Revan at the end... we just never got to see what, which isnt uncommon in games really I think due to the poor ending to kotor2, the relationships deserve more closure moreso than that of the characters in kotor1, but I thought all of the characters and their relationships were cool, so it would be nice to see ALL of the key relationships finalised nicely at the end of KOTOR3 For once I would just like to feel warm and fuzzy inside when I finish a game ... 3 installments is enough time! kotor1 was straight forward, fairly lighthearted in its own way... kotor2 was much darker and more complex (even if they did muck it up a bit)... so regardless of how they approach it, what style they use and who the PC character is, I would like to see more closure and more of a final installment feel, the romance included. Of course the Light Side ending would have to give me that good feeling at the end, but I dont care about DS, everyone can die or something suitably evil Ok I'm done - Dan PS: I liked your posts Kalfear - I agree with what you have said, although I really did still enjoy the transperant KOTOR1 romance story... the predictability of it all was sort of entertaining in itself... cause it was cheesy, but not TOO cheesy :D -
Oh cmon now! She is a cat!

Did you mean to say that bold passage? or was it a typo? I could deal with the fact that the PC's alignment is predetermined as LS, but only because I am LS all the way when I play the games and I honestly have no real desire to play DS :D However, I feel that BOTH alignment and gender are equally important, and as far as im concerned it has nothing to do with the moral principles of our society. Gender is important because I think one of the best parts about these games is that does an excellent job of catering properly for both male and female gamers, instead of forcing you to play as male character. Force alignment is important primarily for continuity... for -most- of us it has very little to do with society or our moral values, but instead that we become immersed in the game (to an extent), and its a truly great thing to be able to carry on from what you had done in the previous games. Some people prefer DS and will want to continue along that path... but that doesn't mean they are all maniacal, power hungry tyrants in real life Maybe the good things about having choice in alignment can still be introduced even if the PC characters initial alignment is predetermined... but I still think it would be better to attempt to leave both gender and alignment open to selection by the player. - Dan

Maybe in KOTOR3 the PC character could be Captain Picard coming to save the day

Good stuff. I remember seeing those on a KOTOR fansite but I didnt want to read them because at the time I hadn't finished KOTOR2 and played KOTOR1 at all. Thanks for reminding me to read them! That was a good read... especially the last 3 or 4. I wonder when/if they will add further chronicles to include the KOTOR2 stuff. - Dan

I love your stuff Eisu! I like the fact your doing more Visas/Mira/Handmaiden sorta stuff.... much more pleasing to someone who played the game as a male I -love- the look of that collage! I'm trying to learn how to shade well so I actually took that and printed it to muck around on (just for personal use of course... I haven't shown it a soul!), and I can say I absolutely cannot wait to see it completed! Do you work digitally or on paper? When you are done if you would agree, I would pay you to get a copy of that to have printed so I can put it up in my place here ..... so I hope your working copy isnt too small :D Keep it up! - Dan

Where the Endgame REALLY went wrong
Jivin replied to Drakonnen's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Good point there Objulen, and well said. I have to agree really. I also wasn't dissapointed with any lack of 'star wars' feel or the lack of epic grandeur, in fact it was quite the opposite. I loved KOTOR1, but I personally enjoyed the style change for KOTOR2... the "shadowy tale" as Objulen put it worked well for me... and the characters were written differently such that they were a bit more mysterious and intruiging, and I thought was nice. Sure Obsidian didn't quite nail it, and perhaps for this sort of style a touch more character interaction would have been good, but to their merit I still thought it was a fresh change. Even despite some minor shortcomings throughout it still all came down to that ending... and it certainly didn't deliver the goods I think the operative word is closure... or lack thereof. To end a game with a cliffhanger is one thing, but there were some things that shouldn't have been left as they were... regardless of the ending style. If LA and the developer are interested in doing KOTOR3 properly (if at all), then really they have only given themselves more stuff they need to cover in K3 to conclude issues from the first 2 stories that should have been covered in their respective games. The stage is certainly set for a truly wonderful 3rd (and perhaps final) game if the developer is to the task... but that is a huge 'if'. - Dan -

My 1st attempt at art (2nd sketch patch May13)
Jivin replied to TetsuJedi's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I love it!, and it's awesome to see it progress (albeit slowly) as you get better I envy you - Dan -
Love it! It's a good mix of a the old and the new, and it would give them the chance they need to tie up a LOT of stuff from K1 and K2 that they didnt sufficiently end the first time around. It also gives them a chance to properly conclude the stories of the key NPC's without actually having to make those characters the central focus again (which even I admit wouldn't be all that cool). I loved Lord Satasn's story idea too... Ohhh the possibilities! - Dan

If you had subtitles on chances are you saw it there PS: I liked your sig "Duffman's pension has been mis-managed...oh yeah!' hahaha

Hi! I've just finished KOTOR1 (after playing KOTOR2 first), but the ending has left me with a couple of little questions, and perhaps a quick recap on what happened at the beginning of KOTOR2 (I AM planning on replaynig it, but between Uni and work at the moment I have so much on it would be stupid to start again now). First off, let me just get off my chest that I thought it was a good game, as was KOTOR2. I thought both had their pro's and con's, although KOTOR1 left me feeling a little more fulfilled than KOTOR2 (which left me feeling empty and used )... but overall I definitely enjoyed both a lot, and it is not like KOTOR1 is not without its unanswered questions either. ANYWAY, there is so many threads on that its not funny, so I will just get to the point Ok so as I saw it (LS Male) KOTOR1 ended basically with Bastila returning to the Light side (or at least i think so), and the whole victory parade thing. I can only assume due to the dialogue on the Starforge that Revan and Bastila actually were a couple after this? Regardless, can someone please remind me of what information you were given in KOTOR2 about Revan and his intentions? From the other posts I found with the search function it seems obvious that there was a lot of information that hasn't been released yet (if ever)... but what do we know happened after the events of KOTOR1 with Revan? At the end of KOTOR2 LS Bastila and Carth say that Revan told them to keep the republic strong, and that he had to take off... SO are we basically to assume using the tidbits released in KOTOR2 that after the victory parade, Revan suddenly remembered something he had learnt on Malachor V and took off to take care of it, leaving Bastila and Carth with a request to keep the republic strong and the knowledge that he would return? Is that it? Am I forgetting some info that was given throughout KOTOR2?, or is that basically all the information you get to fill in the gap after KOTOR1 right there in that scene on Telos at the end? I have to say I was hoping (and half expecting) there to be a bit more than just the victory parade after defeating Malak, but its not uncommon for games to not give you much time to 'explore' after the ending so I can't say im all that suprised really That said though, I think it could have done with a little post-malak interaction, to shed some light on things that still sort of remain a bit hazy. At any rate, given that ending and the Telos bit at the end of KOTOR2, it seems likely that if there is a KOTOR3 I will get some closure for at least one of the stories (revan and co. or exile and co.)... so I think I can finally just be happy and forget about these games for a while *lets out a releived breath* :D So yeah... just some quick clarification would go a long way here, so if anyone is willing to put up with yet another post on this and help me out that would be great! - Dan

You think thats wierd? Join the club! Unfortunately you dont find out what happened to any of your fellow companions once you hit Malachor V. Its unusual and its REALLY annoying, but there isnt jack we can do about it. If you get the KOTOR Tool you can open up the dialogue files and get to the cut scenes which describe the original ending that (we can only assume) Obsidian originally intended to include, however since it wasn't included it has no bearing on the progression of the story and probably wont give you any closure (it sure didn't give me any) because it wont bring you any closer to knowing what really happened Alternatively someone else might be kind enough to type it out for you, or you could check out some of the other great threads on the matter of the cut content ect... Otherwise... just do what someone else suggested and use your imagination like most people enjoy doing, and talk it all out here on the forums like everyone else does - Dan

Of course, so that you know how to pronounce her name before you charge up the loading ramp lol... *boom* *tish*

I am playing the star forge for the first time now after completing KOTOR2, and MAN do I totally agree with you there! This is definitely harder than anything from KOTOR2... they just dont stop! Those droids before malak were a bit of a pushover though... I cant comment on Malak because I had to quit, otherwise I would NEVER get my work done. I will use it as an incentive to work - Dan

Where the Endgame REALLY went wrong
Jivin replied to Drakonnen's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well said I see your point with the whole "good idea but not so good execution" bit too. I love the idea of what KOTOR2 was trying to do, and to some extent they succeeded, but for whatever reasons, and regardless of who is to blame, they sorta fell apart in some key areas (especially the ending). With that said, there is no doubt that because they didn't quite pull it off a lot of poeple will prefer the 'safer' more complete KOTOR1, and I can't say that I dont see why. It's like... for some reason I like the movie Starship Troopers, despite the fact its lame, simple and utterly transperant in every aspect As far as im concerned thats like KOTOR1 for me (although not as lame )... and I love it! :D - Dan -
I agree - definitely the sith tomb or the royal palace... both were good ones - Dan ps: your using my avatar pps: no, i dont think i can bring myself to stop bringing it up every time i see you post

Where the Endgame REALLY went wrong
Jivin replied to Drakonnen's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I disagree. At least then it would be proper closure (although it would be a bit garish, espcially for LS ending). As it stands we have no idea what happened to them on Malachor V and we got no closure whatsoever to the individual relationships between them and the exile. If they all died at the hands of Kreia then it wouldnt make much sense, but at least their stories would come to a proper close, instead of just being told a vauge one-liner by Kreia that sums up the rest of their lives. You should know to that if your referring to the cut ending, then in that all of them do not die (or at least so it seems) because there is cut dialogue were the exile has the chance to talk with some of his companions regarding what must be done in the future. Oh but I can. Go back 25 years to when there was no Return of the Jedi, it would be a very similar situation. - Dan -
Her name is in the subtitles. However if you wanted to read into it (depending on the way you played the game), the exile was really the only one that cared about her, so it is sort of suitable that no-one else refers to her by her real name? heh... not really worth reading anything into it I dont think. Suffice to say the only reason I knew her characters name was because it was in the subtitles. - Dan

For some reason, even though I am fighting on the Star Forge in KOTOR1, the only thing Carth will say to me is (in response to "want to talk?") "No, the only thing i want to do is find something... anything that will prove to dustin that hte sith are evil ect ect".... despite the fact that we: 1. have long since left korriban 2. killed everyone in the sith academy, including his son dustin (carth helped) wtf? - Dan

I think you misunderstood my intentions, and perhaps I overreacted in response to your initial post. In the interests of keeping the peace, lets just drop the subject ok? Thanks - Dan

Where the Endgame REALLY went wrong
Jivin replied to Drakonnen's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Am I the only one that was primarily dissasitisfied with the CHARACTER endings? I mean its great to see such in depth debate on the plot holes and lack of a climax ect.. but to me the downfall of the game wasn't in those things at all, it was instead with the fact that you party members which they pushed you into developing relationships with throughout the entire game, are totally ignored in the final chapter of the game... I mean if there was ever a flaw in a game of this type then that would have to be it! I understand that a lot of the debate here is on the core storyline with the exile and his/her past... and arguably all of those extra characters are irrelevent to that core story, but from my perspective at least, this -isn't- a star wars movie... its an interactive story that gives the player a chance to explore a range of human(esque) relationships and emotions as they follow the storyline... and to me in something like that, the lack of a huge climax pales in comparison to the fact they failed to recognise the importance of including established character relationships as a critical factor in the end of a game/story. I AGREE that the two "climaxes" that were set up in the game were quite weak, which is probably an indication of poor writing, but I imagine it came about as a downside of attempting to create such a 3 dimensional, thought provoking game, which was done to perhaps steer away from the traditional star wars theme. I welcomed that a LOT... which may be why I don't have as much of a problem with the plot on the whole as a lot of other people. BUT I do see the truth in the comments of people saying that the game lost its epic feel due to this. To go with the whole Empire Strikes Back comparison, I see it more like... You see the millenium falcon land on cloud city, and thats it. Luke has his premonition and goes to cloud city as well. he doesnt see leia or chewbacca or anyone else, and he goes into the trap, has his fight with darth vader, vader cuts his hand of yadda yadda "i am your father", then vader asks him to join the dark side AND THEN IT ENDS. - Dan -
Bit off track, and maybe its just me, but I couldn't help but let out a laugh when I first heard Malak let off his evil laugh in KOTOR1... it was more of a cackle really... it was just such a cliche lol... i wish i could find a soundclip - Dan
