  1. To my knowledge, Alienware are the only laptops with upgradeable graphics cards, but I'm pretty sure that's gonna become standard over the next few years (coz its a darn good idea). If you're thinking of buying an Alienware (aren't we all?) then the best place to look first would be e-bay; you can get some rediculousely good prices on there
  2. Well? Anyone got any problems using an nVidia GeForce MX460 on Xp Sp 2, other than those in the readme? I know it ain't the best, but- hey- its the one on my desktop at home, and I'd rather know that it doesn't work before I spend
  3. Ummm, sorry to have to tell u this, but it was released 6 days after the worldwide release date, and they were probably working on it since the US release date, which was 17th November 2003. No offense meant, btw, its just I wouldn't hope for that quick a patch. 3-4 weeks, I reckon, if it comes at all. also, whilst randomly in the Xbox forums looking for Devs, I ran into this page, which may at least be a ray of sunlight, if it means what I think it might mean; http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=28723
  4. That's the sort of thing that you'll be able to find online in a few months- like the other darkside female ending that was cut from the release version on KotOR
  5. Hmmm, I fear that you may be right on that one. Shame. EDIT: that said, the first game was released on November 17th 2003 for PC in america, and it took them till 2nd December to make the first patch, so there is time yet... and there are few LA games which don't have at least one patch.
  6. If they make a decent patch, then I doubt they'll leave such a big issue unresolved- its been happening on lots of ATI cards- and there is evidence to suggest that Obsidian have at least allowed for a patch, guess it all hangs on LA. P.S. Yea, it was the game that didn't work, the modding bit worked fine- first thing this weekend that's gone right, lol!
  7. Well, it didn't work . Still a few more options, but it doesn't look good.
  8. Right, for anyone who's interested, I'm trying the driver modding thing suggested by Boba Fett now on a 345M for the Cat 5.2's... I shall keep thee posted.
  9. I'll give it a go (I've been looking for a way to get past the fist movie for ages, so help here is mutual) but I'm not sure that the copyright lets you transfer savegames between disk sets.... I'll post again later. Edit; alas, it won't even load into the game... sorry
  10. What graphics cardf have you got?
  11. No- the official Cats don't work with laptops, no matter what it says in the readme (oh yes we support IGP cards- bollocks!). Instead, you can ignor the moderators at Lucasarts and download modded drivers, such as Omega or DNA, with all the freedom of a hippy in the summer of '69. However, just as the 50's came before the 60's, you'll have to wait until one of these groups mods the 5.2's and releases them- which hopefully won't be too long. Peace out brother.
  12. Don't care about what works best at the moment- I only wan one that works. If its a driver issue at all (the black screen after 1st movie bit). Which I doubt. But still, seeing as how some people have gotten past it with the 5.2's then I'm all ears for when the Omega drivers come out, so that I can try it on my 345M
  13. They've got an updates section for KotOR 2 so it at least looks like they're planning for a patch. (though you can only get there via the address on the patcher)
  14. yer, its nice when that happens... <sighs>. Have you heard about the 5.2 workaround. Some people (who have desktops) have installed the Catalyst 5.2's and managed to get past the first movie! Fingers crossed for when Omega release their version
  15. If you're on a laptop, they won't work for you, but either omega or dna will put some out soon
  16. it would not cut out a whole swathe, there are very few video cards that are able to run the game and that came in PCI versions it isn't necessary to have an AGP or PCX card, it does not say that anywhere in the requirements, only that your video card meet the requirements by being one of the video cards listed on the bottom of the box i think 'high-end PCI video card' is an oxymoron " if your PCI video card doesn't cut it I would recommend a geforce3 PCI version, i wish you the best of luck finding one though... don't get a geforce4 mx, which also came in PCI, i don't want to type up a whole explanation... just don't unless you have aboslutely no other options <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was only one GF4MX out of about 5 that was a PCI, the rest are AGP, and I know from experience that they're pretty good cards, considering they're about 2 years old.
  17. Seeing as how the back of the box says "32 MB OpenGL 1.4 compliant AGP or PCX 3D graphics card with hardware t&l capability required" would that mean that a PCI card definitely couldn't run it? EDIT: Its ok ppl, crisis averted; my laptop's just told me that the 345M is, in fact, an AGP card I knew Sony weren't totally stupid!
  18. You might well have a point.... but surely that would cut out a whole swathe of graphics cards?
  19. What exactly did you do with the movies in the movies folder?
  20. Isn't that basically Beta testing.... which should have happened before it was released? 6 months of bug testing before a patch is too long if you've shelled out
  21. You guys with the 340/5's... have any of you tried uninstalling Sp2? I've been wondering what could be wrong for ages, and other than not having 5.2 drivers and the game needing a patch that's the only thing i can think of. Just wanted to know if anyone had tried it?
  22. You tried doing what is suggested on this thread? http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=29427
  23. One of the links on the updater (after you've tried to run it) sends you to a KotOR 2 update site, so methinks they might be planning for patches...
