  1. When I was talking about Hiravias, I was kidding. The guy literally stinks, on purpose. Check out his banter with Kana.
  2. "My mind blah blah blah" "Think of the children!" She never, ever says anything else. These are the two things she will ever talk about. ---------------------------------------- Pillars of Eternity should have an option to romance Josh Sawyer. Imagine the drama!!!
  3. A common idea floating around these forums is to make per-encounter spells appear more gradually. At level 9 ALL your level1 spells become per encounter. You can cast 4 in one encounter, 4 in the next, 4, 4, 4... Instead, they could get 1 per encounter + 3 per rest. You'd be able to use one level1 spell per encounter with no extra cost. If you use two, you will eventually run out. For instance 2 spells in first, 2 in second, 2 in third, each subsequent encounter you are only able to cast 1 level1 spell. My version would be like this: 9: 1x level1 per encounter, 3x level1 per rest 10: like above, plus 1x level2 per encounter, 3x level2 per rest 11: like above, plus 1x level3 per encounter, 3x level3 per rest It's definitely not too late to modify this without breaking any builds. Level 9 is late game in PoE without expansions. Some people reach the final boss at level8.
  4. Kiting: When you move faster than your enemy, have enough room for retreating, and more range, you can retreat forever, stopping only to shoot once you build up enough distance.
  5. I think the problem is with Sabre, not Battleaxe. Sabres are supposed to be great against lightly armored enemies, not completely everything. So I've come up with a new special ability for Sabres: Enemy DR is applied twice. If that turns out to be too much, it can be Enemy DR is applied 1.5x times.
  6. Sabres are supposed to excel against unarmored enemies, not everything. They should get a special property like "Enemy DR applied twice."
  7. One thing that occured to me is that DR-reducing skills can be really, really powerful. With a couple of damage lash components you are getting +5 damage per lash if you use And Hel-Hyraf Crashed upon the Shield.
  8. That's a false dichotomy - there's middle ground between: "1 tank should be enough for everyone" and "Every fight would be reduced into huddling in the corner.". If you had two line holders, you would be causing double disengagement attacks. Most enemies would be severely weakened after that. If they still go after your "squishies", switch to two-handed weapons and cut them in half. "Squishies" can equip large shields and have defensive tricks, in worst case - potions. And "squishies" just got a buff in 1.05. Cipher, Wizard got more health and endurance. Even priest got more health. Not every melee line is worth getting through. Giving all encounters ranged attacks to fall back is not foolproof. Cipher has a hard counter to ranged attacks in the form of level1 spell Eyestrike. It inflicts Dazed and Blind in an area. Besides, at least one of the spirit types already has a ranged attack, and does it really work ? Tight formations like hugging a corner have a strong counter - area attacks. Even one enemy per encounter with an area attack would change the way you fight.
  9. More less. I'm having this idea of a DR tank floating in my head. Race: Fire Godlike Class: Barbarian (Blooded passive!) Dual wielding spears with Valiant (+10 Accuracy and +25% damage when below 50%) Eventually wearing He Carries Many Scars (1.5X DR when below 25% endurance), Mantle of the Dying Boar (+5 regen below 33%) Supporting teammates: Paladin with Aura of Endurance, Chanter with Dull the Edge, Blunt the Point. Barbarian is the only class that can benefit from having Endurance below 50%. "Valiant" is a powerful weapon enchantment. Barbarian can get Thick Skin and Defiant Resolve, whose effect would be greatly improved with high DR. Because this build benefits from a paladin, why not borrow the breastplate from Pallegrina in early game ?
  10. Spiritshift is not stellar, but keep in mind it's instant. If you stun an enemy or knock him prone, a druid can capitalize on this right away and cut him to pieces. Other caster abilities (Brilliance, Interdiction, Arcane Assault) need help of party members to reach their full potential. Why can't the same be true for druids ? Zealous Focus aura, or a potion of Eldritch Aim. Devotions of the faithful, or a reduction to enemy deflection. I would enjoy druids more if various shapes were more distinct and had their pros and cons. A druid would have access to a number of forms and choose the most suitable one. No, it's not WOW, the idea is old: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shapeshifting#Transformation_chase
  11. I support this. My first PC was a Druid Philosopher, with a Nihilist background. I didn't want anything to do with any gods. I was disappointed I had to earn a favor of a god to finish the game. The less I have to contact them, the better.
  12. As for Fire godlike, Monk has no inherent bonus for being below 50% endurance. Barbarian has: Blooded passive. Fighter would also be nice, because Constant Recovery would be more effective. Probably some kind of offensive Fighter.
  13. If Pillars of Eternity had romances, we would all be wondering how Hiravias' or Durance's sweat tastes like. But it doesn't, so questions like that remain on Bioware forums.
  14. But all supertanks are Deflection tanks, not Damage Reduction tanks. Extreme tanking wouldn't be an issue if monsters knew when to disengage and go after squishies. Or even just focus fire on something other than a tank.
  15. DR stacking has another limitation - blunt DR is extremely scarce. Very few skills or spells increase it. It's either piercing, slashing, or both usually.
  16. Keep in mind most classes don't have a way to deal with poison. That would probably require a new potion. I've been thinking about making Stealth more useful, and it has a lot to do with encounter design. Smarter encounters that would promote stealth. * maybe you could sneak past monsters and drop something heavy on their heads ? Or sneak past monsters and pull a lever to active traps ? * behind the monsters there are items that would be very useful in that fight. For example 2-3 banshees and a scroll of Prayer Against Fear BEHIND them. * some area or object that gives tactical advantage. For example a magic totem casts Consecrated Ground in combat, healing everyone nearby. * if you sneak 2 heavy hitters past enemy melee, you can eliminate or knock down enemy mages that would be otherwise a lot of pain. With stealth, they would be possible to take down before the proper fight starts. * you are in a tight corridor, there is a big room with an encounter in it. They have nasty area attacks. If you attack them head on, they will focus all area attacks on you and hit you all. But if you sneak at least some of your party into the room and initiate combat from several directions, it becomes quite a bit easier. * enemies are resting with their weapons lying on the ground nearby. If you alarm them, they run to the weapons and attack you. Sneak a rogue to pick up a few weapons, then attack. You will fight some of them unarmed. * as soon as the combat starts, enemies open a cage and unleash lions on you. If you can sneak a guy and block the passage to that cage, it won't be opened. Less enemies to fight at once. Another variant is wizards near a summoning circle, which contains a bound demon. If you sneak a guy and break the protective circle, the demon goes mad and attacks everyone instead of just you.
  17. Deflection stacking, deflection stacking all the way. A character with very high Deflection enjoys many advantages. He lasts very long in combat, and being heavily outnumbered and surrounded doesn't bother him that much, because it doesn't make him easier to hit. Deflection also avoids many attacks altogether (Knocknown, poison, disease as secondary effects). I don't read about DR stacking on this forum nearly as often. Don't you think DR stacking is too weak ? DR comes with more limits, for example at least 20% damage always goes through. Each attack always deals damage no matter how thick your armor. Unless it doesn't hit at all. Games like DCSS have limits on similar mechanics, such as shield parry. Each subsequent attack has a higher chance to hit. In PoE terms, it could be that when you are attacked, you get -5 to Deflection for 1 second (STACKS).
  18. Have you heard the saying "Fight fire with fire" ? Maybe if you hit fire elementals with fire, it depletes all oxygen around them and they can't burn anymore ? I agree about oozes. It makes sense, they have no up and down. But spirits - how do you know how something as insubstantial as spirit "works" ? Besides, shadows in PoE are described as attracting matter to them as they grow stronger. They are partially substantial. I don't know about scrolls and potions, but they could make more use of their abilities. Currently enemies only have endurance, and outright die when you bring them down (I think). What if enemy paladins could use Reviving Exhortation on fallen allies ? What if they could use Deprive the Unworthy to cancel your buffs ? Players LOVE buffs. Trolls would technically count as stronger enemies, except they have pathetic Accuracy. Something like 35 on Normal/Hard for Forest variety I believe ? Also, they are not that tough next to the pwgra they hang around with. Those dudes have 15 DR on Normal/Hard ? Many interesting abilities already exist in the game, like disease and poison. The problem is they have too small effect on players. As a consequence, Neutralize Poison spell is next to useless. Mountain Dwarf special is next to useless. When I saw Disease Pudding, and earlier Swamp Slime, my first reaction was: "Uh oh! This is going to be nasty!". Not at all. Also, of all spiders in the game I think only Widowmakers have venom ? And it's not very dangerous. This is because making good arguments is often hard and takes effort.
  19. Why would you pick Cautious Attack in the first place ?? "Off-tank" suggests you already have a primary tank. You really can handle a stray enemy or two not caught by your tank without using Cautious Attack.
  20. You're the kind of person who thinks a zebra is just a horse with a different coat pattern, aren't you? No, I think these forums are more interesting without you, so I'm adding you to ignore list. You're in broken record mode. Also, zebras can produce offspring with other equines, including horses. ad. 1) This would mean non-human prostitutes become more valuable, because they don't need contraceptives. If there aren't too many non-humans in Dyrwood, demand would be increased. They would migrate to Defiance Bay. Why didn't Maea think of this ? She's an aumaua, isn't she ? How did she become the owner, promoted from management ? Better to keep paying premium for bitter squash seeds, or hire non-humans ? ad. 2) So ? ad. 3) So ?
  21. Think Rangers are inflexible ? Try ranged Barbarian ! Almost none of their skills and talents work with ranged. Ranged paladins are better. You might try a Barbarian with Dangerous Implement, but good luck dropping to 50% endurance that way, even if you leave Constitution at 3.
  22. But they don't have to be different phrases. You can chant two, or even one phrases in a loop and your chant counter will still increase every few seconds. It makes sense, doesn't it ? Level 1 Chanter learns two phrases and one invocation immediately. If he had to chant three different phrases, he would be completely unable to use that invocation.
