I feel that way about armor-helms in most games. Plus with those I can't see the faces, which in some games I may have spent a lot of time in the editor "creating." Or in 3D, they have hair-clipping issues. Hats - I like funny hats, or elegant hats. And at least I can usually still see their face. Of course, less important (graphically) in a game like PoE. But still, I want to rock those feathered hats....- 46 replies

GoT is a subscription-cable HBO series, which probably makes its (original air) viewings less than TWD simply for access reasons. I don't think I'd take it as TWD actually being more "popular" than GoT. Not that I'm a ratings expert.

I've hardly spent anything on service on my Subaru Legacy in the past 15 years, outside of oil changes, tires and a new battery now and then. But I also haven't been a "typical" driver for the past 10.

I like the solo/chr. building/story episodes, but they do tend to drag them out too long. TWD is definitely very uneven but I still like it overall, so I still tune in even as sometimes I'm rolling my eyes. GoT is the one that got boring to me, fast. Not my style at all. Well, except for Peter Dinklage as Tyrion. He was awesome.

That does sound rather restrictive for a Diablo game ... where trading with other players is/was an aspect that many enjoyed a lot. Account-bound sounds like ... MMO. Is it only Legendaries that get account bound?

Previous thread If they're in the same industry they're competitors. Apples and oranges are both fruit. If oranges want to succeed, people have to buy less of every other fruit. Not really. They are literally apples and oranges. There is plenty of room in the marketplace for both, they are both successful independently and they work together well in juices and salads. I doubt apple farmers spend any time at all worrying about the strength of the orange market, or vice versa. It would be entirely different if Obsidian and Bioware were on a similar release schedule, or their product were a closer match. But Dragon Age and PE are very different products that have been marketed in very different ways. ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------

The cat being their familiar, of course ... and who being a smart feline, realizes the laziest easiest way to travel and keep up with "their" magician is to perch atop their head. ... a wizard is not a wizard simply because of their hat. There are some stories where magicians may form "schools" and thus have some kind of uniform at times, so others can recognize their place of study etc, or a wizard may simply like the way a pointy hat looks ... so as I said before, while I hope there are some (or at least a few) pointy hats in the game for fun and roleplay reasons, I would also hope that 1-there will be other types of hats as well and 2-pointy hats aren't mage-only wear. I mean, what if my Monk or Ranger or whoever wants to wear a pointy hat, too?- 46 replies

Typically "Winter (year)" means from the start of winter that year, not the end of winter. At least in the US. But would agree that it's not much different than saying "end of 2014" or whatever.

My brother went back to classes to get his masters etc. and such when he was in his 30's, divorced w/a daughter. Hectic time for him, driving all over the Bay every day/week (lived/worked in North Bay, ex wife/daughter in East bay, school in SW Bay.....). But he thrives on that sort of thing and in the end it all worked out very well for him. Today I've been reflecting on how much one can change in 10 years. Some aspects may always feel like we haven't changed at all - yet as life experiences come and go, sometimes we slowly discover exactly how flexible we really can be. And in the end, finally realize maybe we've changed a lot more than we thought we did.

There's some things if I could do them over, I might do them differently. And yet, there's some truth to the idea that if you changed those things, your life now would be different because of the ripples. And I like my life as it is now. So yeah...for me personally, I probably wouldn't at this point. -
The Face of Love - melodramatic, kinda weird romance with Vertigo overtones (no murder/action mystery to it tho). Main reason I watched it is because of Ed Harris. He's great ... so was Annette Bening. Neither could make the film better than it was - which isn't very. Still...the whole time watching I kept thinking how great they both are as actors.

I remember planning a lot in Casear games too ... laying out roads and houses and such in pause. Just not quite that much at once. Or I'd place things to create the spaces for them re: road layout then delete the buildings before unpausing.

I like to watch and, sometimes, fun-nitpick Star Trek (OS/TNG anyway). I doubt I'd like to play a Star Trek video game.

Early this morning I discovered that when you first start a map, you only have to have one house built, so workers can go to it when they get "cold." If no house at all, they all freeze to death 1st winter and that's it. Anyway, I liked that because I can build the one house, build a Gatherer, then just have my original 10 or so workers clear a giant area of land/plan with less buildings I may have to move once I have a blueprint laid out. Because I'm a planner. Like this: "Hm, cool looking map, with that river bend/islet. I bet that would make a good trading center." "Am I over-thinking this stage, you think? .... nah." "Now to see if all that planning pans out..." ...an hour or two planning (not just that center area in pic, but all around it too), couple hours of letting it run at 10x while unpausing the build-orders on things from time to time as population/resources grow. The planning is definitely my favorite stage.

It's definitely impressive numbers-wise, but that sort of thing always makes me wonder ... how high a pop. can they get while still making a town that looks like ... a town? Most I've seen so far is maybe 1500-2000ish. But yeah...even doing it via trading for most food etc. (notice there's almost no brown on the mini-map), I'm surprised you can get that high without the PC screaming to a halt. lol. Maybe they're all idle laborers, sitting in their houses.

Nice weekend - nothing like a rented room that has a giant plate glass window view of the ocean and where there's little iceplant-encrusted beach-dunes all around your doorstep. How do these places get such awesome tasting fruit when it's not summer (here) yet? I want their caterer. Got home around 430pm. Could barely keep eyes open through dinner/watching TWD with hubby, then, still all relaxed (helped that my friend did the driving) I fell asleep on the couch. Woke up a few hours later and, instead of doing the sensible thing like flop into the real bed to snooze more, I turned on the PC and played a Banished map and suddenly it was 4am. eg, back to normal.

Ha, had forgotten about that. That was a bit annoying. Still...it had advantages over the constantly evolving/de-evolving palaces of Ceaser3. With Banished's decent sales (for what it is), I hope more such projects will pop out and do well. C'mon programmers - all the little ways to get indie games off the ground these days .. it's time for a city builder revival! For simple-graphic/older style, "1849" is a maybe. So burnt out/tired. Too many short hop running arounds in the day then too much Banished in the wee hours. Girlfriend and I spending the weekend at a coastal retreat that she wanted to go to. Sort of a spa/meditation/conference thing. With really nice rooms. I'm game.

Tried to get "Mountain Men" achievement in Banished. Failed due to not building a hospital in time and having a bad disease outbreak in year 10 (disease usually doesn't hit me that early) . Noticed I actually still had Caesar 4 installed from whenever I installed it last (probably reinstalled and never played...). Tried to fire it up. Was reminded how graphic/performance unoptimized that game was and Win7 doesn't improve it, urgh. Still, I have a save game of the Roma sandbox map with 600k money, right after I deleted the small trade town that made the money, so I could just goof off. Thing is, while I liked some things about C4, it wasn't my favorite. I think what I want is to be able to smush Banished and Caesar 3, with a smattering of features from C4, together into one game....

So at about 900 Citizens playing at 10x speed on my rig starts to get edge-scrolling stutter and slight start/pause jerks once in a while. 5x speed is still fine tho. Impression I have is too much stockpiling of resources is main cause of fps loss/lag (too many barns for 500k food, giant full stockpiles everywhere, etc.). Keep that low enough and high pop. to 1500 can be manageable fps wise .. for a while. Anyway ... 900 Citizens is the last population achievement, so enough of that. Still irritating feeling like you have to constantly build new houses etc. Endless expanding = less sandbox and more pressure-rts, unless 15 years later you want to see everyone die with no one to replace but Nomads. So next goal - a smaller town that's actually stable, if you walked away for hours and hours. It might be doable, smaller town. Tip: Don't give citizens Warm Coats. Feels like they = more starve-walk deaths because they don't get cold as fast so walk further/starve. Then again, it means you'll see a lot of workers get to a work site, bang their hammer once, then turn around and walk away again. I'd post town pics but really, they all start to look the same after a while, so just the stats/map. ...and also ... beef, it's what's for dinner. (cow pastures take forever to fill-up, but then you get all that leather which is awesome for trading...)
