The All Things Movie Thread
(referring to some of the last postings) ...I remember trying to watch Creep a month or two ago or something. I got about 15 minutes and then FFwd to the end. And I don't remember the end. ...Ethan Hawke in a Western? I'll rent it just for that alone. Although as usual the trailer makes me feel like I've seen the movie. Maybe I'll forget about that by the time I see it. ...Frozen 2 trailer - I'm going to assume ice-woman is stuck on an island (or just thinks she has to leave and has no boat) and that's her method of trying to escape it. And yes, it's a weird trailer. ...The Wandering Earth is one I'm looking forward to coming to Netflix so I can watch it.

I guess my main concern is do you have to replace liquid coolers more often than physical heatsink ones - do they have more parts that wear out due to heat or age. I'm rather a set it and forget it for years and years person. I *am* going for a larger case this time - current rig is a tower but not quite that ultimate full size type. Eh. We'll see. I suppose I could try liquid and if I don't like it replace it later.

What is the most cool processor
The one with the biggest after-market (bought separately) cooler on it. If a cpu comes with a factory cooler included it's typically not very good - I mean it'll work but it's not meant for high-stress cooling. Some cpu's don't even come with a minimal factory cooler and are just the cpu, now. ....lol. You can get smaller/shorter ones that work better than factory-included ones might, for basic, non-overclocked cooling. Those may keep a cpu 5-10C cooler than factory. Or go liquid cooling instead (which I barely know anything about technically).

What are you playing right now?
DQ:Builders, finished chapt 1 and got into freeplay. The map is huge and I like how they separated things - no monsters on your main building island but teleport to other islands that have enemies (since you need them to drop crafting stuff) and other resources. There's also chests and secrets scattered around for other bonuses. But I did look at Chapt. 2 - the quest/story mode is very simplistic but they do design the islands pretty well so that makes them interesting to wander around/build in. Camera still sucks tho. I have no idea how one is supposed to finish them in 20 game days or less, for the speedplay challenge. Even if my chr. never sleeps, I can't picture less than 50-60 days. I'm just too slow.

Oh, that's a nice link, thank you. I know what processor and GPU I want but sometimes all the other stuff is "I have no idea." I'm going to try to slowly order parts to have something built by the end of March (famous last words but..). I'd fall in the mostly-overkill category I guess. Worst part for me is it may be the first time I buy most things online, it's just the way it is now. Hate it (I like being able to return/exchange things the same day if need be etc) but, sigh. Anyway, I'm wondering, "everyone" always recommends what appears to be liquid cooling units for the i9-9900k. Does it really need that, if one isn't going to overclock? I know they don't come with any cooling thingie when you buy it, it's just the chip ... but would one of the popular non-liquid coolers still be fine or does it really run that hot? Still not sure I want to deal with liquid cooling, since I've never used it before/have no clue. I dunno. :/ Edit: talking to hubby he thinks I should go for the liquid cooling this time I guess....

TV's Vast Wasteland
First two episodes of The Umbrella Academy: the show does a good job of hooking you in fairly quick. Nice sense of dark humor. I like Ellen Page, nice to see her. The kid/young teen actor playing #5 is killing it, imo - I love his snark. As usual I know nothing about the source material but the music, mood, and scene set-ups are fun. Definitely will continue watching. Also, not plot but mood-scene spoilery:

What did you do today?
Too much spam on a couple of the email addy's that I use for net access and after a year it's not dying down much. Deleted one I never use/have no record of using for anything important. Created a new email addy to replace one which is not used too often (only maybe 6 or 7 important things). But the other one is the main online use one for several years and the idea of figuring out/logging into and changing it for dozens of sites/services will be a big PITA. Pfft, I want to game now, let's see how much less spam there is from the initial action, first .... procrastination-rationalization.

What are you playing right now?
Well, after another few/several hours (some of that was me just farting around) playing DQ:Builders this weekend, I've reached Chapt 1: Part4. Looking at the cheatsheet, seems I have a few quests then 3 rounds of combat/castle defense and a final boss fight. I might get to finally freeplay this evening if I push myself to finish. Maybe.

The guy in the hat was my favorite bandmember. Why? The hats of course. Edit: oh yeah...the days of constant lip syncing, even at the AMA's. lulz.

What did you do today?
Spent most of the last couple days zoning out rewatching/skimming through fave Korean tragi-weeper-dramas and eating takeout. And if not doing that, pacing around the house like a caged tiger. In one of those moods. edit: apparently 2019 is a year for many of my fave korean actors to exit their military duty, so perhaps in another year or so some will have a new show. Yay.

I had no idea they were making a live-action Aladdin. *looks up trailer* Bwahaha, that trailer is so bad. Well, it could still be ok/decent in the full film, who knows. But that trailer. Bwahaha. They should have just gone with all animation/different looking genie and just Smith's voice or something.

ROFL at that Nimoy video. I know it's being applied to the Discovery series but in a way it could also apply to film/TV entertainment in general (action/violence over anything else). I miss Leonard.

What are you playing right now?
I'm at 10 hours now and I think I'm only halfway through the 1st chapt. Dangit. The thing is current quest says "go over here" and I'm blocked by this giant mountain cliff. So I keep banging away through it hoping to make an upward tunnel path to it or something but keep getting blocked at every turn and backtracking. Taking forever. When you're in a tunnel the view camera is also absolutely horrid, can't see jack. If there's some fancy easy shortcut I have no clue. Guess I'll try just dirt-block placing/jumping my way up the outside of the cliff instead. What a waste of time. lol Reading more, sounds like the freeplay maps are unlocked by chapts as well. So you get 1 or so or whatever per chapt you complete? Dunno? At this rate I may as well go back to 7 Days to Die as a free-builder.

What are you playing right now?
Dragon Quest Builders on PS4 I bought it because it looked like a Minecraft-y game that was yet not Minecraft and reviews said it had a no-combat freeplay mode. Started the game. Am forced into playing Chapt. 1 with no menu options for freeplay or anything else. The game is cute and I like the design and ran around doing whatever as the quests dictate. There is little guidance within the game outside of the npc's original "do this", the controls are sometimes awful, and the narrator/npc dialogue is super repetitive ("you know you're a builder right? Only you can build! You know you're the only one with the ability to build, right?" ... I mean, seriously...). Still, kind of fun. But after a few hours of getting to know the game I wanted to freeplay-build. Apparently I have to complete Chapt. 1 before I can. So I kept going. Now I'm low on healing items and apparently that is the one of the few things that doesn't respawn and I was too free with them earlier when I had zero clue. More of a different type later, according to a walkthru I finally consulted after 6 hours, but will I make it to that point? Combat isn't hard, mind, but I do tend to lose hp frequently because controls/timing are awkward and half the time I end up hacking at air, or my avatar spins around and walks/slashes in the wrong direction, or I get stuck on a block while backing up, or something. Anyway ... according to that walkthru, Chapt. 1 has a long way to go to finish and while I'm sure a replay would ofc go much faster since you'd be familiar what to do/where to go, since I'm not familiar, I've become irritated that freeplay is locked behind this time-sink of a Chapt. Also, some freeplay unlockables apparently require you to do challenges in the Chapter format, meaning a 2nd playthru of all 4 chapters, most likely. Nothing wrong with that, except when all you want to do is Freeplay in the first place and your annoyance starts to grow by leaps and bounds every hour you can't .... ...it is a cute/fun game however. Not knocking that. But if I'd realized ahead of time what it takes to get to Freeplay, my lazy butt might not have bought it. Pfft.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
There have been several Edo period rpg games on Steam where I think I might like them .... but unfortunately I don't read/understand Japanese and they do not have any English support. Might get away with that for a total action game but .. :/

TV's Vast Wasteland
BBC's recent "ABC Murders" starring John Malkovich (via Amazon Prime). 3 episodes. Filmed in an often rather surreal/gloomy fashion, with some interesting and/or beautiful location shots at times, it's pretty decent. I have still never read an Agatha Christie mystery, only seen a few older movies that I barely remember, so can't say if it "feels" right in that sense. The mystery plot works tho and the actors are all fine, so I found it entertaining (albeit gloomy, like I said). It took me a while to realize the main cop lead was the redhead from the Potter films, lol.

Salma is a better dancer, at least in those scenes, she's much more fluid and languid. I have no comment or care about which is more beautiful/hot but Salma has better dance fluidity.

Pictures of your Games 11 - The Quickening
Gosh darn it, fired up FFXV for first time in 2.5 months, just wanted to check an info detail real quick, in and out type thing, end up Ansel-ing for two hours and taking 10GB of screenshots. Why does this game +graphics + Ansel = instant crack??

Someday I will reupholster my mom's very simple couch. Which I still love because it's not all poofy or designer or made for people with 5 foot legs like everything they do today. ...I can't even find an image of old 50s or 60's couches that looks remotely the same. Some semi-close maybe but not really.

TV's Vast Wasteland
I hear CBS/online is going to do a 10 episode remake of The Stand. Which I won't see unless "everyone" thinks it's the bees knees and they sell it on DVD, but it does make me curious who could be cast as Flagg, as well as others. Matthew McConaughey might be good but I think he was in Dark Tower so maybe not good to put him in another King? Plus he's typically film over TV. Just not familiar enough with "this generation" of actors to think of good choices... The old mini-series nailed a few of the cast choices imo but really dropped the ball on others. I never liked that they made Harold skinny from the start, either - I hope they don't do that this time around and use special effects or whatnot. I also wish it could be 12 episodes. 10 still feels just a bit too short.

The Food Thread
Yeah I'm sorta that way. I don't like super sweet sauces. I've had some BBQ sauces that weren't very sweet however, and not ketchup-thick. More like a thick marinade that you just brush on a bit and adds some nice flavor without being heavy or 20lbs of sugar. Like I love teriyaki that is just soy sauce with a bit of sugar and garlic in it but most US "teriyaki" that is super sweet/corn syrup'd+pineapple isn't my thing at all.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
I don't know if this really qualifies as news, but I learned today that the guy (no team, just a single guy) who made the game Banished is working on something new. Very very early stages and he hasn't really specified what kind of game, just talking about programming and art tests in some posts on his site blog. http://www.shiningrocksoftware.com/ But if it's any sort of city-builder aspect - which it sounds like it may since he's talking about chr. AI, pathing and needs, etc - I might become very interested. I loved Banished. So maybe in a couple years we'll have more details or an early access or who knows.
