  1. I'll try a different environment. This time I won't even dismantle the ship pod and will scout around a bit for a good build spot first and ... Nooo! ... I suck. Either that or I need to stop exploring. (I'm sure later they're wussies but didn't even have the hand spanner hehe). Did learn you don't lose all your stuff, game drops a crate at death spot. But then you have to find it. But learned you can swim and I got a better look at the tall thingies. It's a nice looking game for an indie but the draw distance is terrible. I wish it went out further before it turned into blurry mush. Ok, 3rd time's the charm, back to it...
  2. Borderlands 2 sample combat music: ...I'd turn down effect/voice sliders so I could hear the music better. For me one of the better "firing while dancing around like mad" in combat OST's. Borderlands 3 sample combat music: .... while BL3 has fun/decent vocalized tunes and some OST tracks are reminiscent of the previous games, overall much of the OST you hear while playing is too night-rave-disco or something for me. At least when longer than 10 seconds and repeated. It's more like having sand in your pants, rather than pulse-pounding/inspiring. Just imo, ofc. I have the music totally off, at this point. >.>
  3. Glad to know, if I was in the market for a 30xx, that I wouldn't be the only foolish idiot wanting a 3090. Not that I'd wait in line for one. I prefer waiting six months (or whatever). To me buying gpu's (or any expensive tech item) is like buying games, now. You wait for the patches/upgrades first. hahaha...
  4. I just now realized "Content count" is not the same as actual total "post count." Either that or the "content count" is only posts since the new forum style was implemented and my 16k "post count" is everything. *confusion* I still always wonder what my post count would be if you included WoT posts from back when I posted constantly. Scratch that, maybe I don't want to know. Anyway, going to try some more Satisfactory this afternoon. Maybe I can not die in the first 5 minutes this time and actually build something. I usually avoid "Early Access" these days but I'm bored enough and it looked ... open world-roaming/builder/graphic-ho'ing enough ... to say "why not."
  5. Yeah I'm the same. Which isn't to say there aren't some extensive awesome mods that alter or even add mechanics/items (eg will change how you approach/play the game significantly) or even add areas or something - but that type of mod is pretty rare. 90% of mods are more along the lines of texture/model reskinning (or weather/filter/graphic tweaks or...) or user discovered bug fixes. Nothing wrong with that ofc, I like cosmetic changes sometimes. Or dance mods. I like the dance mods, all rpg's should have them.
  6. "I cast off my spacepod shell and step bravely out into the unknown to build a factory empire!" "What is that tall creature in the distance??" "What is THAT?" ...I then proceeded to walk around, scanning for ore. Was mining said ore by stabbing some rock with an icepick when I was back-butted by a couple mean armadillo-like thingies. I broke my hand-spanner trying to defend myself and promptly died. Respawn and reload both put me in a random different spot with nothing, not even the required block apparently needed to build the starter HUB. When I tried to go back to menu to start over, game crashed. Early Access... But it looked utterly gorgeous on the 4k TV/Ultra! Edit: Game title, "Satisfactory", on Steam
  7. I was going to say "nothing," but then I looked up some lists and ... ...when did these two happen. I'll probably buy the Evil Genius one when on/near when it releases (Steam page only says "2021") just to check it out. Stronghold Warlords I'm more iffy about (maps again look small vs. 3d structures and I didn't like SH2 or SH3 all that much) but I might check it out too. Maybe it'll at least be a bit better than SH3. Dunno if it'll have a sandbox mode tho.
  8. ^ I remember when I thought a 4:3 CRT 19" monitor was huuuuge. 27" is a good desktop size for majority of people and it's a best all-around task size imo too. "Smoothness" is something I may notice if I think about/look for it really hard, but not to the point where I obsess over it. Doesn't bother my eyes/vision at all I guess, as long as it still feels smooth enough and isn't jerky or blurry to a point of constant noticing. etc. Hence why a solid 60fps is still just fine to me. I have enough "issue" with wanting clarity/resolution/size and monitor color accuracy, if I also "had to have" high hz/fps I'd go insane.
  9. ^ I sit 2-2.5 feet from a 43"+ TV (on my desk) while gaming and I still think that's too small. Not for watching movies (I sit further for movies), but gaming. If it was 80-100" of course I'd sit farther away but probably not even 5-6 feet. I like peripheral vision to sorta be "blocked out" as much as possible by the screen when gaming if that makes sense. But I do use controllers a lot more these days if I want to sit further back. Or a cordless KB/mouse on a board across my lap. I don't play too many "twitchy" games that need precision/timing either. Hubby has an expensive 55" 4k he's using for work (instead of 4 monitors like he was doing). It sits on his desk and when I sit in front of it for a while, it doesn't seem too big at all.
  10. I (still) feel like games - especially games where it's not the main story/chr focus - typically are not a great medium for romance. It's usually too perfunctory with not enough build-up or emotional persistence over the entire playthru and thus I feel little resonance/belief to a supposed "romance" - or it's too overtly "let's get nekkid!" (which by itself also has zero resonance with me) I mean, one day a game may change my mind but I'd guess such would be an exception not a rule even then. At any rate, doesn't matter to me if there are such options in a game. I know romance is a popular request a lot of the time. As long as I can ignore it/not go down those paths if I think it's been done terribly. But yeah...I also wouldn't want that job.
  11. But I don't want to game (or watch video/TV for that matter) on a 27" or even 30" monitor. It's way too small. To me these days, 4k PC monitors are pointless. I'm not into VR (yet) but I do like giant massive screens. I'm also one of those that likes to sit really really close to said screens, hence it has to ideally still look really good up close. No sitting 10 feet away for me. So it ain't the resolution so much ... it's the size I want. Super size and super clarity. Gimmie. ... but not for another 3-5 years I'm sure. Still not worth it today except as a tease....
  12. FUUUUUuuuuUUUU..... I want it. I put it at YouTube's "8k" on my 4k TV and oh man even with YT's lousy compression I was drooling. Can't imagine how good it must look in person. It even looked ok dropped to 1440. I could sit one foot away from the screen! Should I do it? Hubby won't mind, right? It's only money and you can't take it with you! Sigh ... well, maybe when the 4090 comes...
  13. I guessed I missed this news. Not that I'm surprised. Pretty soon all media entertainment of all forms will be owned by some giant, single, mega-corp created by buying/merging everyone else into it. "All restaurants are Taco Bell," indeed. As to Obsidian and Fallout ... it'd be nice but I doubt it'd happen or be/feel the same even if it did. Still - I'd be curious what would result if by some miracle it came to be.
  14. Classics? Depends how you define that. Old? Mmm. I used to revisit (PC) stuff from the late 90's/early 2000's a few times each year, but the past 3-4 years that's dwindled and it's now pretty rare. I haven't even turned on Dungeon Keeper 1 in a few years I think. If I do go back to one for a short while, it's mostly city-builder/management games where I'm not sure I'm playing so much as goofing off with certain fave levels via old saves (yup, I keep game saves for decades!). And Diablo1 is always good for a day or three blast of the past.
  15. The last of a smallish batch of spaghetti for lunch: not visible but also has finely grated yellow squash in it, which adds more fiber/veggie but is hardly noticeable texture-wise. Wheat noodles work/taste fine. I actually probably like them a bit more than typical "white" egg-noodles... The day after grocery shopping day is the bulk-cooking day. (edit: the beef is just top round, it's fine for stir-fry when cut very thin) - putting meat in the freezer for a couple hours makes it easier to slice. I don't eat much protein per meal and just mix a bit of the cooked beef into whatever veggies I'm using at the time so that tub lasts all week. I use other veggies too, ofc, but they don't go with this mix so they're separate, for change-up.
  16. I have almost zero interest in the topics this guy seems to cover, but his voice and presentation style is intelligent, comprehensive and for some strange reason rather soothing. To the point you watch/listen a lot longer than you expect for a topic you have no investment in. If all my teachers had sounded like that I might've been a better student.
  17. Played Caesar 3 up to one of the early levels (first one you can open a trade route/sell goods in) where once I set up basic stuff I let the level run on its own, racking up the currency over some hours. This is so moving forward, you carry this over and have a big advantage starting each next map because ... oodles of money! Then I became bored of that and turned on FFXV again for 1st time in months. Started a new game. Still like the combat visuals and animations and the clarity of the overall 4k graphic look. Still wonderfully hilarious/fun telling Ignis to cast Mark over and over and over again while beating up on rhinos and giraffes. Then I became bored of that. Looked through Steam's new release list etc again. Nothing. Hmm....
  18. I think 80% of hubby's company workers will end up staying at home fairly permanently. At all the engineers and paper people. Some even talk of moving very far away and staying remote etc. Sadly hubby can't do that easily (or I'd be all for leaving the Bay Area), he still has to go in now and again to do physical/non-remote work. Unless he wants to fly or long-drive/hotel-overnight a couple times a month perhaps. Which I'm sure he doesn't (I wouldn't either). Today I ate a big lunch, took a walk, gazed at the internet. The air around here seems back to normal for now, so the weather's been nice. Been binge-watching a couple k-drama's, staying up too late again.
  19. I have utterly no idea what gpu thingies I had before a VooDoo3 outside of on-board and some no-name cards. I'm pretty sure I still have the VooDoo in a box in some closet. I still have a ge6200 in a drawer for some reason. We're such geeks. I might've tried a single AMD once ages ago. Always been nvidia tho. Hubby's had a few of the cheaper side AMD's and I could never stand their control panels, any version. Yes I'm that shallow.
  20. The blood sugar meter the hospital gave me, the meter device itself and the lancets can be bought almost anywhere and are retail $25 for 100. But the actual test strips that go into the meter are almost nowhere to be found that I've been able to discover and (retail) would cost $100+ per 100. Thus I am forced to depend on the hospital pharmacy/prescrip. to get the strips (they're much cheaper that way w/insurance etc. but it's just weird one aspect is widely available but the other is not). Since I'm a newbie I was testing constantly for a while. The pharmacy gave me a hard time when I wanted to refill because I'd used the 100 strips up faster than expected. I was all like "well how else am I supposed to gain knowledge of what my body does re: meals/foods and insulin dosage." I mean, I understand the needles, drug abuse and all that, but what, is there some worry about abuse of test strips by patients? I suppose I could sell them on the black market since they apparently can't be bought legitly almost anywhere. ...I'm suspicious of a deal between the company, insurance, and the hospital or something.
  21. ^ Graphically there was a time that Warhammer trailer wouldn't have seemed the worst but something feels really off about the weapon size/perspective. Sometimes it blocks tons of the screen. Plus looks klunky. No clue what they're trying to achieve tho.
  22. If I was into "dark souls" or similar type games I'd probably be interested in that Black Myth: Wukong game. But I'm not so ... I'll just watch it on Twitch for the kewl boss graphics.
  23. More to do with them being disappointed re: specific game performance vs. the card overall if that makes sense.
  24. I think I acquired that confusion/assumption from the reaction of the average netizen to benchmarks (usually via disappointment in the numbers...). eg, I think a lot of lay-people mistake/think of them for actual gameplay fps barometers. Actually, I think I've seen some reviewers act like they were, too, when they talk about whether something is "worth it". >.>
