Guard Dog

Modesty and humility are praiseworthy traits in anyone and they certianly contruibute to someone'e "nice guy/girl" rating. However, they have no place in self assesments. We had those in my last job and I always hated it because it was like management saying "I have no idea who you are or what you do". However, you need to look at your self assesment in the same light as your resume. Only instead of getting a job you are trying to keep one, or advance in one. Sometimes doing either means outshining those people working right next to you. In my line of work my co-workers are not just people I work with but competitors for jobs and promotions and especially surviving the inevitable downsizing. You have worked hard to get where you are. Don't hesitate a moment to show it off. Don't embellish obviously but don't hold back either.

Yep, in the midst of a shooting war precipitated by an unprovoked attack that was followed by invasions of US soil, invasions and subjegation of allies, and attacks on US interests all over the world. Just in case you happened to forget that little nugget. And you had better beleive I believe it. I pray I am wrong, but I don't think I will be. It dosen't matter anyway. If it's going to happen it's going to happen. No one will stop it. The current regime in Iran has an apoclyptic bent and they probably believe giving a weapon to terrorists will insulate them from reprisals. I have real doubts that if they did do it the the world would get on board for military action anyway. I don't mean to take this thread OT so respond if you like but I'm dropping it here.

Every choice he has made has been his choice, made not on bland squeamishness but instead on lack of character. This is the first thing you have ever posted that actually makes sense. And you were correct having not served in the military does not mean you cannot form an opinion on the military. However, it does mean your opinion is a little uninformed.

On what MC said, I read an article yesterday that made the case the award should have beedn conferred on a nuclear weapon because they have done more to keep peace than any one man. But Russias promise not to veto or their at best tepid support for sanctions carried little worth. China will still veto and there is nothing to buy them off with. Besides, if the Middle East explodes in war, Russia becomes the richest and most influential country in the world becaue it will have the most oil and the means to deliver it. Once Iran has a nuclear weapon is there any doubt in anyones mind they will give one to Hamas, Al Qaida, some one of that ilk? The day they have one more weapon than India, Pakistan or Israel, is the day a weapon detonates in Tel Aviv or Washington DC, or New York, or London, or somewhere. It's a good as done because no one is willing to stop it.

At a quick glance if Miami wins tonight I win for the week with 4 wrong and everyone else ties at six. If the Jets win we all tie at five.

It's not about freedom, it's about decorum. A school is an institution designed to achieve a purpose. If a boy dressed as a girl is a distraction to people that is a flaw in ourselves as human beings. But for a school to function it must mitigate distractions and if they deem that to do that they must inconvience this one kid, then that is how it is. He does have other options and he can dress how he pleases after school of during after school functions like dances, football games, whatever. The same could be said of any business enviorment. It's their sandbox. You want to play in it you live by their rules. If thats unacceptable. go to school/work elsewhere. I have made the same argument against gays in the military. It is not as if gays made inferior soldiers, there is no evidence they do. There are certainly gays serving right now. It's that open homosexuality is damaging to morale. The fact that it is true again shows that we are flawed creatures because it should not be something anyone thinks about. But because it is a problem it must be avoided because the whole of the military must not be damaged to accomedate a few individuals. Not to change the subject, I was just trying to make a point.

California is am excellent example of irresponsible government run amok. Too bad this thread got sidetracked because it would have made for interesting discussion. Illegal immigration is a problem, no one can dispute that. But it is not the root cause of California's issues. The root cause is out of control spending coupled with abuse of the tax payers. And that cannot be blamed on the bad US eceonomy as a whole because even this article points out that the exodus of people began back in 2004 when the economy was fine. The US is still a free country (for a little while longer at least). If your home state has punitive taxation and regulation you can move to a different state and escape it. If state malfeasence is damaging you business, you are free to fire all of your employees, move the business to a different state and start over there. And that new state would probably love to have you. In the US state government policy does not happen in a vaccum. This is why Marx said for socialism to work in must be inescapable.

Thats true, not like this "award" has any credibility to begin with. Still, if he had even a shred of integrity he would decline it. But his rampant narcissisim will not allow him to do that.
