  1. Going to New York all next week with G. Neither of us have been. She has a whole bucket list of thing she wants us to do. Monday & Thursday I'm all tied up with work. But I bought us tickets to see the Rangers play the Ducks in MSG on Tuesday, Lower bowl section 115. That wasn't cheap. $150 per seat! But what the heck it was on both of our bucket lists.. On Wednesday we are going to see "The Music Man" in the afternoon and then to dinner at Donburiya (unless she changes her mind again). Plus lots of other stuff I'm sure I'll be briefed on before we go
  2. Hell I WISH it was just an isolationist attitude. THAT is something I could at least understand. It's the segment that is actually CHEERING for Putin and the Russians that boggles my mind. Starting with Trump. I expected very little from him and God knows he has done almost naught but harm. But to praise the modern day Hitler for invading a sovereign state without (legitimate) provocation and even suggesting we do the same to Mexico is more than I can stomach. And then, then at least 1/3 of the rank and file Republicans AGREE with him. What the f--k happened to the GOP? When did they become the "bad guys". They were never the good guys but I used to hate them slightly less than the goddamned freedom hating Democrats. I don't know how we got here, but here we are. McCain, Reagan, Eisenhower, and Goldwater are rolling in their graves. I'm glad they are not here to see it.
  3. Let's see who is old enough to get this
  4. Nice to see you back @Calax! I'm sorry you had such a sh--ty experience with her. That sucks.
  5. Totally stealing this!
  6. Heck I don't need a bar of soap to smell like that! I usually need one to make me STOP smelling that way!
  7. Started watching "From" on Epix. Four episodes in and I am intrigued.
  8. I've been so busy with work lately. The biggest problem is the tedium of data entry. The data that I use for my work comes from multiple platforms because we are using multiple vendors. I am pretty handy with VB so I use Excel & Power BI for my actual work. The tedium is all this data has to be entered into excel. Manually on some formats. Some come in .csv so that's easy. Bri was over doing her laundry and we got to talking about it. She offered to do the data entry for me. I told her there was $20 an hour and a license for MS Office in it for her if she would. She agreed and my workload just got cut in half. Sub-contracting. Why didn't I think of that???
  9. James "Cool Papa" Bell was on of those great Negro League players that never got to play in the MLB. Which is a shame because he was likely BETTER than Jackie Robinson. Satchel Paige once said Bell was so fast he could turn off the lights and be under the covers before the room got dark. In an exhibition game against MLB all-stars he once scored from first on a bunt. Or so his legend goes. Bell's career ended before Robinson made his first start. I would have loved to have seen what he could have done for a team like the Cubs or Pirates in the late 30's. After his playing career ended he went on to be a scout for the St. Louis Browns and was inducted into Cooperstown in 1974. After he passed away in '91 the street he lived on in St. Louis was renamed for him.
  10. Dunno why but I found this very funny. I guess I'm easily amused
  11. That's true. Dodger stadium still looks a lot like it did in in the Sixties too. Wrigley has had a LOT of structural upgrades over the years. Dodger stadium too but it looks a lot more like it's original self than Wrigley. The old ballyard in Chavez Ravine has really aged gracefully. My favorite FED name was Pittsburgh Rebels because it was based on such an obscure historical event. But one I've always been fascinated by.
  12. Weeghman Field under construction in 1912. It was built for a Federal League team. Obviously that didn't work out well. But ultimately it was used by another team that made it famous. And it's still in use today 110 years later! This is what it look like today:
  13. Biden has nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson for the SCOTUS. I've never heard of her before Breyer announced his retirement. A quick read on her wikipedia page it seems like she is a decent choice. Not someone I'm going to find a lot of common ground with but neither was Breyer. She is coming from the DC Circuit Court of Appeals which has been a conveyer belt to the big courthouse on First St. She might even have some bi-partisan support. Actually I don't see any reason to oppose her unless something dishonest about her turns up. Seems unlikely. The Democrats turned Supreme Court nominations into a bloodsport with Bork and Thomas and literally every one since. The Republicans quickly followed suit. Hopefully it's time to put an end to that s--t. @Gromnirdo you know anything about her? Other than common knowledge. Edit: If it had been up to me the first AA Woman on the Court would have been Janice Rogers Brown. Seriously you guys need to write my name in in 2024. You might not like everything I do but I'll cure what ails this country!
  14. Not a lot of good news in the baseball world these days. But we can always remember better days.
  15. Trump praises Putin's 'genius' incursion into Ukraine Hold up here! What the hell did I just read here?????? Are you f---g KIDDING me? Did that son of a bitch just suggest we invade Mexico? As for Putin's "genius" I've always noticed how dictators stick together. I guess that includes wanna-be's. I'd wager in 1938 he'd have been praising Hitler for invading Austria. The similarities between this situation and that are striking.
  16. I comes down to this: no one is going to go to war over Ukraine. Sanctions are all well and good but when so much of Europe buys oil from Russia they won't last long enough to matter. To steal a great line from a bad movie there are only two courses of action in life, what we can do and what we can't. Stopping Russia from invading or kicking them out now that they have falls into the latter category. Unless you are willing to go to war over it. And that will likely mean nuclear weapons of it goes badly for Putin.
  17. @GromnirIMO only it would have been better to ignore the chant. Don't give the fire any oxygen and it flickers out. Maybe she didn't know what was being chanted but it sounded pretty clear to me. Better to ignore the pig than put lipstick on it. It's pretty crass to chant that about anyone. A president deserves no special exemption from being insulted that way other than the fact it's crude to do it. But it's going to happen. But either way I wouldn't feel too sorry for Kelli Stavast. She came out of this unscathed. I had to google to even remember her name and it did not come up on the first search item. Nor the fifth or sixth.
  18. Let’s go Brandon: Driver caught in unwinnable culture war I feel bad for this guy. He had just won his first NASCAR race and had every reason to be happy in the moment. Then a news reporter says something stupid (maybe she really believed what she was saying but I think not) and he has literally been dragged into a political mudpit against his will.
