  1. your avatar made me think of Safiya from MOTB.. like her fatter brother or something Also I agree with your post. http://ilarge.listal.com/image/5405535/968full-neverwinter-nights-2%3A-mask-of-the-betrayer----expansion-pack-artwork.jpg
  2. Why.. Seriously Why? Why is everyone dodging the obvious solution with these lame attempts at solving the problem that has one huge obvious solution. You want bandits to ride the wolves or the wolves to be eating pigs with dialogue and lore popups.. you want obsidian to stop bug fixing to make an eco system with realistic wolf simulation.. you want farmer joe to need 10 wolf pelts for a new coat.. you want loot and items to fall out of the wolfs asss when it dies.. just make them give kill xp..
  3. People seriously expect Obsidian to actually put tons of effort and narrative background behind every wolf? So it feels more satisfying why they are there? Is this just a scapegoat for the real problem.. the wolves are tedious to fight because they are nothing but a pointless obstacle.. AKA why everyone in this thread is discussing "WHERES THE LOOT" Adding pig corpses or bandits riding the wolves and chasing cultists will make the encounter slightly better.. maybe... the first time you play the game. Seriously just implement kill -xp and make sure the fight is hard. Easy fix. The backwards rationalizing going on here is astounding..
  4. You shouldn't. That would be murder. Not if a farmer told him to do it first. The Codex thread title made me lol. Gifted you better not lock our last combat xp thread before it hits 500.. none of this 499 lock crap.. you wait til 500! jk
  5. I never attacked you once.. the last post you quoted wasn't even directed to you.. you are the only one "attacking"
  6. Sorry I can't match the calibur of such an esteemed codex member..
  7. Well JE Sawyer has clearly stated that bribing players to do combat is degenerative gameplay.. it means the combat sucked and wasn't fun.. Which means every wolf and beetle encounter is amazing on it's own.. you don't need rewards of any kind. If you don't like it then don't play the game. This is literally his words not mine. More Accurately: JE Sawyer @ SA Forums If it is not rewarding enough to play on its own, stop playing our terrible game.
  8. So what you meant to say was.. It was -slightly- off topic.. I said rewards for combat not xp.. and you clearly stated in your original post that part of the reason for your disatisfaction at the wolves existing was lack of rewards as well as a lack of reason for them being there.. Haha that's funny. After I killed the Wolves I thought, now there's GOT to be some loot around here because there wouldn't be an encounter here otherwise I mean if your gonna brush off my comments at least put in a half effort.. M8.. Or are you telling me to just shut up?
  9. How is you wanting rewards for combat out of context? Please don't edit any of your current posts after you give your answer..
  10. Haha that's funny. After I killed the Wolves I thought, now there's GOT to be some loot around here because there wouldn't be an encounter here otherwise, and I walked around the ruins in scouting mode. Didn't find anything though, I will go and have another look. Combat should be it's own reward.. Josh Sawyer shouldn't have to bribe you to kill wolves..
  11. Were you expecting narrative for every wildlife creature you run into? I bet if these encounters were a bit harder and rewarded something.. like kill -xp.. you would enjoy it more.. Just saying..
  12. Really?! Wow. I could've sworn item durability was removed. You still have to replenish your weapons and armor? Or, are you saying that illusionary equipment will be dropped by foes? Or both? *blink blink* o_o Helm's talking nonsense. Enemies do drop loot, sometimes very good loot. The two fights in Dyrford itself drop excellent armor and weapons including probably the best ranged weapon in the demo, so much so that if you go the pacifist route you're actively handicapping yourself for the rest of the beta, or at least until you get through to some rather nice found loot. Some other drops are more disappointing though; wildlife usually just drops monster bits which may or may not come in handy in crafting, and some of the other human enemies had fairly underwhelming drops. I hope they fix the latter; don't mind wolfs dropping wolf hides and spiders dropping venom sacs and spider legs. But we need to make sure we have the exact same items available for sneaking past wolves and npcs.. it's not fair if I wanna use dialogue to get past the wolf forest and then i miss out on wolf furs.. Hopefully this is fixed in the game.. I am tired of people being rewarded for combat.. it ruins my single player game. It's not 1994 anymore guys.. if you don't like my game go play Baldurs Gate. [/sarcasm]
  13. Really?! Wow. I could've sworn item durability was removed. You still have to replenish your weapons and armor? Or, are you saying that illusionary equipment will be dropped by foes? Or both? *blink blink* o_o He means consumables from crafting.. use your head Lephys
  14. Ahh, so that is where that quote came from. lol For people who don't know.. SA censors words into more playful nice versions.. gently carress means F*CK .. incase the wording seemed weird. The name is being ironic.. JE is saying that isn't the game he set out to make.. so I don't wanna misrepresent him or whatever.. But those of us who have been in that thread.. this is the reference we have been making..
  15. I think when the other one gets locked.. we could start a new one in response to beta patches.. for sure the debate should be localized to one spot. theres at least 3 of these threads running around.. its harder for me to argue with you across 3 pages.
  16. I definately agree that woman should be treated equally and there should be more of them in game development.. (or just the field of software engineering in general).. However.. I think it's kind of hypocrytical to say "The Contributions women make towards.." Why does gender matter.. isn't the point of equality to not judge achievements and performance based on gender.. I am being a little pedantic.. but.. is inequality only bad when its negative? I am gonna get misquoted and yelled at..
  17. I think this should have gone under the other thread.. but whatever.. Your point has been mentioned and debated.. a lot.. It is what it is.. no xp for kills just doesn't feel good as a mechanic to many people no matter how many times we hear it works better on paper.. not trying to be a fanboy of old IE mechanics or anything.. it just doesn't feel good and thats all that matters in a game.. after the beta has been patched up more lets see how things go.
  18. Baldurs Gate: Throne of Sawyer <- Mine SuckMyDick : Josh Sawyers Game <- Joshes Game Title on the SA forums ect.. ect... I like yours the best EDITTING FOR CONTEXT http://forums.someth...40&pagenumber=2 "That's genuinely cool, but we didn't Kickstart a game called gently caress You: Suck My ****: Josh Sawyer's Personal Dream RPG Experience where I do whatever I personally think is sound and neat and good. For better or worse, this was pitched as an IE-like game. It's great that you view the experiences as more abstract than the nuts and bolts, but no, people clearly do not trust me/us to make a good game that is significantly mechanically different. And I know from experience that sort of attitude can poison a player's entire reception of the game. I have had the pleasure to work on a project where I just got to do whatever I wanted and that was pretty cool. I don't know how many people would have played that weird-rear end game, but the publisher wasn't really concerned, so I went wild. Very few projects are like that. This project is not like that and I feel like we have never pitched it as though it were." - Josh Sawyer
  19. This sounds horrible.. I expect so much better from Obsidian.. I specificially said the problem isn't just the sample size. The poll is most likely biased, but we can only guess about that part. It doesn't represent the 71k backers because the highly invested ones are overrepresented, not despite that. I don't think the poll is biased.. the loudest voices will always be the ones heard.. we can't possibly send this poll to every backer via email but I don't think the poll's design was biased in favor of any choice.. it represents in broad strokes all the rough mechanics people want It's biased because people voting for change are more likely to bother voting than people who are happy or just don't care. If the participants were selected at random from among the backers (via e-mail or whatever) and then they all returned a vote, it would be less biased. It's not about the choices in the poll, it's about statistical bias. But the poll's only for our benefit anyway to give us an idea of what we're all thinking. It needn't be foolproof. I disagree with your premise.. we have 200+ votes and about 1/10th that many people posting in this thread.. the poll has been available to people who don't actively discuss / debate / argue anything in this thread.. the only assumption you can make about the voters is.. they are people went to this forum and saw the topic and voted.. You can't say.. oh its only people who want change..

  21. <_< How about you cite your sources on that? Both on Sawyer thinking its perfect and that being cause of why it will never be changed?... Does it even matter? There will never be an official vote and Sawyer will never change the xp system either. I hope you enjoyed my hyperbole though. I would be very surprised if he will. There is a reason, after all, why some people are now calling PoE Josh's Dream RPG. There are too many things 'out of place' (for a lack of better term) in this game to be called 'a spiritual successor to the IE games'. I will reaffirm this concept again: the lack of combat XP alone doesn't make or break this game... but it's just the tip of the iceberg. Yeah, I noticed. The RPG codex was especially harsh. It seems to be true though. That's like saying the sun was especially hot.. It's the codex.. lmao.
  22. Im liking your post because of your patience and bug reporting.. not cause im glad the game is buggy..
  23. and thats the problem, everyone thinks that the IE experience means something different Wait what? You just totally changed the meaning of that quote.. I also have no idea what you mean..
  24. I would assume that gold level backers are really interested in the game. So it makes me wonder why they did not found that out earlier, reading the blog, interviews and watching videos would have made it clear in which direction the developer want to go. As I already said.. people avoid this type of stuff because of spoilers.. Beta may be many peoples first look at what Obsidians defination of an IE inspired game looks like. I personally would not be here if I hadn't stumbled across Tim Cains interview.. I have avoided almost all gameplay videos.. I don't want ANY spoilers.. unfortunately hearing about the xp system made me want to get involved. Of course the minute you said assume you had to know you couldn't possibly assume anything..
  25. You could also read that as ~89% of participants aren't happy with only quest xp. Problem is that this poll isn't representative. Mind, this doesn't just mean number of participants, but also criteria for how they are selected(which for this poll, isn't happening at all). I think it is quite representative. Eve if it's only ~250 persons who voted out of the 71000 backers, the sampled population is composed of persons who care enough about this game to follow the forums and that probably also pledged quite a hefty amount of money to access, among other things, the beta. The general opinion outside this forum about Pillars of Eternity it's either: "Pillars of what?!?" or "it will be like BG2 in a different setting". Althought I don't 100% agree because we don't know that every voter was also a backer.. I will say based on some comments in this thread that you are mostly right. A lot of people assumed that the game will be like IE.. then played the beta then showed up in this thread confused wtf was happening. (those people were gold level backers)
