KotOR 1 came out around the same time as Jedi Academy. Being a rare RPG player, I found it very nice to have the main difference of Shooters and RPG highlighted with Taris and the whole walk, talk, and people around nice. I'm not saying it was deliberately designed with Jedi Academy in mind though - just a consequence/observation I guess. I'd say it's get-used-to-RPG type place. A bit like you've learnt the basic controls and stuff, now here's a planet to try it on. As for the theme, I don't think it was trying to establish the mood of the game or anything specifically - still felt nice though.

I agree with both of you. If you don't like it you're stuck for longer but it is unlikely you hate all of Taris. You obviously can't satisfy everyone but I think Taris was the good choice and more people like it than hate ALL of it. Edit: What about this then - you leave Peragus only to be stuck on Telos. At least on Dantooine you clearly start a new phase of the game and become a Jedi (with real teaching and a quest out of it), plus I reckon the compulsory bits of Dantooine are shorter to do, and to some extent funner, and more direct in it's contribution to building up the story. K2 is Peragus to Telos to Telos Surface to Telos Bunker to Telos Polar Academy THEN travel... also, you can rush through the Dantooine Grove and Ruins and comeback later, but you can't do that with Telos Surface/Bunker/Academy cos you can't come back.

Doesn't matter. The music "patch" you download is just an executable RAR archive, which means you can download the file, and just use WinRAR (I think running it in an empty temp folder will also extract it properly) and extract the music files. The only problem is that I don't know if all the included tracks with the game are replaced by the patch, so you may or may not be missing some. I'm sure someone can fill in for me here.

I disagree, since on the Ebon Hawk you weren't using your character. Ender Spire and Paragus both had that feeling of urgency, you felt like you needed to get out of there, and fast. Taris and Telos were both big cities and it was really your first chance to really interact with NPC's. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No agree with Battlewookie (well actually he is agreeing with me from the original post it's just that I probably didn't clear the above up). Endire Spire - Ebon Hawk T3 are the Tutorial levels Taris - Peragus are the first real levels of the game Dantooine - Telos are both the compulsory levels after the first level What you say Pixies is valid, but the key here is that the first decent length intro (not tutorial) level the player is exposed to is Taris - Peragus. Like I said in the old post, I do think the K2 Tutorial is superior; it is more boring (and less creative, mainly with Trask talking game controls ) than Endire Spire but definitely the better tutorial.

These videos are interlaced right? (horizontal bars) -
Here's a poll I made a while ago: Poll: Comparing Intro Levels My vote was for Taris and still is - reasons said in that thread.

There's a lot of good ingame pre-rendered video around - it just depends on what compression they choose/are able to use. Also look at videos around in general rendered by graphics card, like ATi and the Ruby demos (seen the latest one, holy crap (w00t) ). Don't get me wrong, some of the smaller scenes in games should be rendered in-game, but uhhh, surely you have exceptions, say the Rome Total War introduction. You would need a super computer to render that live... -
I'm sure if this is the best analogy but think of diving (and probably some other competitions); if you pull off a hard complicated thing it'll be superior by far, but ofcourse it's hard. Yes, K1 at it's core (but was still very nicely dressed up) is a simple kill the bad guy story but don't see anything wrong with that, especially in a game scenario.

Tried a search yet (and wait for more than hour next time...) Anyway, you can get it from the game files by either playing them with WinAmp (well, anything other than Windows Media Player ). If you want to use Windows Media Player or burn them to an audio CD or whatever, download Miles Sound Studio utility (freeware) and that can convert the tracks to normal WAV format to manipulate. You'll also want to download the High Quality music before doing this as well. Welcome to the boards...wanna play Pazaak

It was either cut (or just forgotten in the rush), or, rather strangely, deliberately not intended which I doubt. I never got these options cos I experienced heaps of quest problems on NS and just endedup fighting them all in a "sweep" of the whole area. fyi, one example of a quest bug is repairing the pylon in that ship area without ever knowing about it (I got that power thing from the Ithorian and thought "hey, I can use it in this termainal thing!"). Instant completed quest (but then I discovered the broken swoop which needed it)

I guess all I'm saying is that perceptually for me, KotOR hasn't gone over the top with all the universe of mythology, magic and all the over-the-top item names that go with it.

A lot of the RPG's I hear about are all fantasy world based with monsters, magic and like Japanese Final Fantasy blah blah blah and stuff like that. Now I know Force Powers and "Native Planet Wildlife" are the same thing, but for some reason I can just accept it all more easily because it's presented in a Star Wars form - things like "The Magical Elixir of the Ancients" (made up, but you basically the whole fantasy world name stuff) just doesn't stick with me. <_< Yep, I don't play RPG's much. KotOR was actually the first RPG I had played in ages...so yes, my standards are lower, and I guess I'm very picky about them too (like I said, fantasy doesn't work - even Lord of the Rings had a few moments of oh no, the Evil Monster of Blah Blah Blah).

Music is worth it because it's "always on"; movies probably aren't worth it long term (you'll probably skip most of them after seeing them once). I downloaded the movies anyway though - I'm not dial-up luckily.

JEBUS... HQ Media patch thingy on front page!!
dufflover replied to Jitawa's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
My previous things like Obsidian going over LucasArts and leaking the content patch and stuff are obviously on the stupid side, but what about Obsidian doing a content patch In-House then. Surely LucasArts won't care as long it doesn't cost them anything. -
What's wrong K1's simple story? I found the game entertaining, easy to follow, yet they also put many unique elements, not just the Revan twist to make the story memorable. I'm consistant with my view - like K1 way more than K2, and like I said before K2 story is not my preferred style...by far. It was a bit like Half-Life 2 for me (which I played after K2). You have a good game here but it just warps the whole story and stuff established in the first game. I know K2 was designed to be as independent of K1 but still it really changed the whole KotOR feel for me. Anyway, story and completeness (ending and story-wise ending, satisfied/fulfilled gamer when I finish) were the main let downs for me.

When I was trying to open trade routes it never worked! I reckon I got hit with some weird quest bug. My preferred weapon is still the dual lightsabers as I outlined above but I was suprised through the Handmaiden dueling and sister fights how powerful un-armed was (which I used for her since I ran out of lightsabers and decent crystals).
-
That's what I thought too. I haven't changed from my previous post though. I still think the story was stupid (well to be fair, not my cup of tea anyway). After I managed to shut myself out of the story and just played it like a "run through" it was alright but even I noticed a big drop when Malachor came around and I had thought I had seen the worst of it.

New sketches! Unbelievable! (04/10/2005)

Edited to remove a quote - Shadowstrider btw, great sketches. *awaits DL to enter the thread* -
There are two common problems that players will almost certainly get during a network game (there are heaps of minor ones too) 1. "Double-turn" bug, where when one player is standing, the other will usually pick up two cards (two turns), even if they only click End Turn once. This then causes more problems with one player getting a different result to the other person and then the whole thing just screws up. 2. "Lost turn" bug, where the End Turn message doesn't reach the opponent and thus the game is stalled with both players waiting for each other. If you don't play multiplayer then well, it doesn't matter to you (although I still think you should play some MP anyway).

Overall it was a good game but I just found the story (Force Wound/Echo/Void etc, and True Sith stuff) stupid and not my taste so I voted #3.

Carth's gonna get iiiiiit (Oct 4)
dufflover replied to aimo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Considering how there's no male Revan (one Revan....two Revans ), I woulda thought Carth would be fallin' for Bastila . *waits for all the fools to destroy themselves to leave Bastila for the taking* I don't even know what Painter is so I wouldn't know about the versions. I've heard of Photoshop though . Goes to Google: "ahhh, so that's what it is" -

dufflover replied to aimo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
But she is better than most people. Don't get me wrong, I have no objection to everyone making their own art thread nor am I saying their bad either but Aimo started before the "central" thread convention and she has a big collection to show anyway. -
I always use dual Lightsabers coupled with the disabling Force powers. So yes, I would say the Force is more important to me but it's the lightsabers that do the damage.

I'm stumped...maybe it doesn't like your graphics card or a particular option enabled.
